that's it. A cold shower is coming! (and not for the usual reasons!)
i use Macs, and our special characters are different from Windows ones and often don't translate from one platform to the other. but now i know a new character! woohoo! thank You, Ms. E., to the Nth °!
Foxy Lady: In Georgia. We had snow today and it is sleeting outside now. Supposed to get down to 29....but by the end of the week we will be back up to 60. This same thing happened last year and I was sure the daffodils and daylilies would freeze...but they made it just fine.
plaintiger: Thats how i bought mine, than i put it in some topsoil and fed it deleuted coffee and whamo it took off = growing. It's doing real good and loves the sun, when we have some.
Foxy Lady: ohhh, interesting! i didn't know that either. i think this bamboo i have is just planted in a bunch of stones and drinking pure water. huh...
ScarletRose: Yes rotating the veggie plants we also do,never plant the same thing every year in the same spot. Now i'd love to have my Bamboo outside but like my banana tree it is indoors.Winters are too harsh here in CNY except this year its been very unusually warm.
Eriisa: Ahhhhh Roses now that depends where you live.My area we prune them in the fall.We haven't had good luck with them, alot of little green wormies.yukky......
My blueberry bush does well with the coffee ground method. We put used grounds around the bushes and water them. Our soil here is very clay like concrete. You could have your soil tested.
Eriisa: I know roses love to be pruned every spring.. did you try some Miracle grow to help them..
As far as acidic soils go.. can't you plant like Tomatoes next to the area you are wanting to grow the bamboo..?? I know that most gardeners rotate certain veggies due to balancing out the levels over the years..
I have so many plans for the yard now that I'm working at home.
I think I'm going out this weekend to cut back the roses etc etc. Do ya'll think I should do the coffee ground thing in Dallas (zone 8) or should the soil be ok? When I met Jim 2 years ago, they were blooming like crazy! But I didn't notice a lot last year.
I think I'm also going to take a small plot and plant some veggies. I'm just dying for some collard greens!
plaintiger: I think you first have to identify which type of bamboo you might. It's a grass so most soils will be ok. It can be very invasive. Though there are some that don't sucker.
anybody know anything about transplanting bamboo from indoors to out? we have one of those pretty china pots from the grocery store with three stalks of bamboo in it and i've been thinking about putting them in the ground and letting them spread out (as i know bamboo does under the right conditions) and form a natural privacy thingy between our property and the neighbors'...but i don't know what kind of soil conditions or anything bamboo likes. i could just look online, i know, but i figured i'd start here in case anybody has any first-hand experience.
that come up ..often thro the last snow..as soon as the ground starts to thaw.
it is one of the early signs of winter.I will take a piccie & share..as soon as I see this early sign of spring.

yeah, i think about the duration of winter differently down here too. You think about having Feb, March, and April yet to go; i think about having February yet to go.
Foxy Lady: not sure what we got up to today, but it's about 48 out there now, at 8:25...so it was probably 55 or so earlier. and not even February yet. i can imagine what the weather must be like for You during a *real* winter!
