Because misunderstandings can occur......I am too stubborn to resign an obvious draw against someone who is so small minded to not accept one. I resent the insinuation that the game on gt is anything more than that.

david upshaw: I offered a draw in January of 2002. He refused. Rules of the game say one can only offer a draw once. He waits til the last minute before he's to time out then he moves the game. He has timed out the maximum number of times allowed. That game is the only reason I still visit that site.

A draw may be obvious to the whole world but if one player refuses there is usually no justifiable recourse. Fencer intervened and that is admirable. Apparently that is NOT the case on Goldtoken where a game of checkers between NLStardust (me) and 3334 has been tediously played for almost 7 years.

Gr☺uch☺: Yes,I see what you're saying and I agree to a degree. It's just that some people cheat, lie or steal to be at the top of the chart. They aren't there because they are the best at their particular game. I guess it's finding a balance between playing for fun and playing for 'points'.
What has turned me off is the fact that a person's true rating isn't known because of the players who cheat the system.

Subject: My 2 cents
Why is bkr so important anyway? We are not all on an even playing field. Ever since I learned of the many many people (or should I say accounts) that cheat to boost their ratings,my bkr means nothing to me. I know that if I play a few select friends who I know are not using programs or multiple nics to boost their rating that whether I win, lose or draw,I'm satisfied with a good game played.
whatever happened to playing for the fun of it?

If he isn't planning to return perhaps another moderator could be appointed to replace him. Just my two cents

I started playing a checkers game on Goldtoken almost 5 years ago (Oct 23,2001). On the 21st of January 2002 I offered a draw and was denied. That was at move # 31.
We are now up to move # 146. A third party interfered and asked Badger to declare a draw. Badger messaged me and I declined the draw...Let's say I can be stubborn ;-)

Checkers is more than a child's game. It is a game that tests one's competitiveness and skill.
With the introduction of computer programming, the best and only way-IMO-to determine who can beat whom is through one on one ,face to face ,play.
This is,and can be,achieved through tournament play such as the one taking place in Scotland as we speak. :-)

Wh ydoes 'published play' have to come into account in every checker game? I've seen people lose sure wins because of human error or time out. Not everyone who plays online games consults a database of former games to determine if the game is a win or a loss. That would take the FUN out of playing, wouldn't it?

How can playing via computer program be satisfying to the competitive spirit?
I can understand using one to test one's own competence but not to use one in place of play.

APolaris: I know one of the names you listed and was informed he was using a program. Because that's second hand info I won't say who but this person can very easily be distracted from play.

Oh,and so as not to be off topic,I'm going to decorate it with checker pieces and the frosting will be red and black and there won't be any chess pieces on it and the winner of the tournament gets to jump out of it! yeah!! that's it! How's that for staying on topic on the checker board? ;-) LOL

Subject: KM - Logo of Distinction
The members of the Killing Machine Fellowship proudly wear the KM logo as a sign of respect and comraderie that the KM has become known for. Our members have made friends as well as enemies in our tenure and although the friends outnumber the others 1000-1 , it appears that the 'one' is probably a little envious of our reputation and would like to join us. We,at KM are selective in our membership drives and not just anyone can make the final cut. Unfortunately there are some who, having not made the final cut choose to wear our logo, anyway. Therefore if you are playing a game against a KM,to be sure of the players authenticity as a true KM,just check our Fellowship membership. For all others wearing the KM logo,it'll simply mean...Keep Moving! :-)
