seku:  Try Dailygammon.  "Computer guessing" has been working there for years.  You can make up to 10 moves in a row based upon computer predictions of what your opponent will do.  If the computer guesses wrong, the game is rolled back to that move and guessing resumes from that point.  Your opponent cannot see your move unless he makes the predicted move himself.

WellyWales:  I have to confess I am totally befuddled about the uproar over this issue.  Seems to me some folks with a lot of time on their hands are making a huge fuss over nothing.  Think of directing all that reforming energy out into the real world where it could actually do some good ...

Having said that, this is a user-supported site, and I would expect Fencer to take the users' wishes into account.  What I would prefer not to see is the same people posting the same complaint over and over again.

jryden:  It happens frequently that I cannot access the site for brief periods, and it always has, but nothing that would interfere with making timely moves in my games.  But then, I don't generally play games with time limits more restrictive than 2 days/regular weekends/regular vacations.

rabbitoid:  Au contraire, if no one gets this, the random number generator is definitely malfunctioning.  Do you have any idea how many dice rolls are simulated every day on this site?  What can happen, must eventually happen, given enough opportunity.  A chance of one in less than 100,000?  That's probably an everyday event here.

For what it's worth, I live in the Western US and use a high speed cable connection.  I generally don't have problems with slow page loads -- except in some of the forums.  However, it is extremely common for me to lose connection with the brainking server.  Happens on the average a couple of times per session.  The problem exists only with BrainKing.  I'm quite willing to believe that the problem lies somewhere between us, presumably in the web infrastructure in the Czech Republic.  I leave the interpretation to others.

AbigailII:  I'm interested to know whether you adopt the same approach to your interactions with people off the web -- do you ignore body language, facial expression, tone of voice, etc.?  I believe smileys are intended to substitute for those nonverbal cues that convey so much of our meaning (as much as 90%, according to some authorities).  I'm sure most people would agree that a great deal of information can be conveyed by a wink!

Temo: Re: Rated games
pauloaguia:  How good are you at cgi scripts?  I used to compile statistics on the tournament games at ItsYourTurn by downloading web pages and extracting the necessary information from them.  I wrote a couple of scripts in perl that automated most of the process.  In this case, I see the graph page has a URL of the form The">http://brainking.com/en/BKRGraph?u=2741&tp=23

The only thing you would have to change in the URL to download different graphs would be the "tp=nnn".  You could either make a data set of all the game types you play, or just download graphs for every type of game that is played.  If you wanted to you could then extract the line showing "Counted Games", and print out a report showing counted games w/t/l for each game type.

kintori:  Is there something in the concept of a "game" that escapes you?  You're taking this waaaay too seriously.  Moreover, I would dispute the existence of any "social contract", particularly one in which the terms are dictated by you.

I admit I have no knowledge of the situation you describe, and if I did I might be offended by a player's conduct.  But to elevate this to a moral level is overkill.
