playBunny: There are some ladies here I am told who have invested $20 and a whole lot more on some dude who is a whole lot less than you described. But I don't listen to rumors. Truth is I am paying off a wager.
Walter Montego: There is one way to nullify the built in House edge in roulette, BJ, craps..lots of games but no one does it because it is no "fun." Take all the money you have allowed yourself for the night, walk in the door and put the whole thing on one spin of the wheel..black/red it doesn't matter. The house odds which grinds everybody down in the long run do not have time to kick in on one spin..they are nearly 50/50.
I try to look at the Purple World DB and it takes me to the generic "news" DB which is months old and almost never read let alone used. It's hard enough getting people to be interactive and post on the DB and now they can't even find it! Boooo. LOL.
Buried under tons of esoteric info about a tiny little DB few people are interested in as well as some private fueds Walter still makes some excellent points. Power corrupts for one. And when you place a new gun in someone's hands there is an irrestible urge to try it out. Another lost point is that if you don't know which Global took the action how do you know if you contact the Globals you won't be "appealing" to the very one who did it to begin with? Public criticism is not allowed (probably a wise policy) but the private appeals process needs to offer some chance at a fair hearing before an unbiased abrbiter.
I don't think he will ban you and I agree with your point but I believe Fencer will fix it all the faster when things simmer down and he does not feel pressured.
I had a checker game with a bearded gentleman from another country and he was and is a very nice guy. He was learning checkers from books he said and I was real pleased to have another convert to checkers. I beat him a couple of times then all of a sudden he moved like a Grand Master and beat me. He then told me he was trying out a program he had found and even sent the the print out of what it had told him to do to win the game. I just smiled and did not stomp around like Rumplestillskin but I will admit for one brief moment I felt like Ugh was describing. In the end I looked at it as a learning experience for him as well as me. Now intense tournament prize games may indeed be another matter.
The new policy should read that programs are not allowed and you will be punished if you get caught using one and since the only way you can get caught is to "tell" the real bottom line is to keep your mouth shut.
Andersp: LOL. I'm not saying you are wrong at all but I'm suggesting you save some of the outrage for people who are programming and keeping quiet about it.
There are "learning" programs that analyze completed games and pin point mistakes after the game is over. How do people feel about that? Is that also cheating?
Andersp: Of course that goes without saying. The pressure coming from here however is quite another thing. The pressure is "don't tell." He is getting that message loud and clear. Once it was done I think "telling" was the noble thing to do.
This is crazy. The man is honest and you condemn him. What is going to happen now when the next honest man thinks about stepping forward? All you are doing is pushing it into the closet because somehow that makes you more comfortable. I say wake up. And BTW I am used to being alone in my views. That doesn't change them.
Bank's Ladder for checkers was open for all players but put in the warning: anyone may enter but the competition is is extremely difficult as the programs and their programmers play at a high level. (then you would see the entrants names like Joe Blow..Cake Program etc.) I know of 3 people who play on the internet that cracked the top 20 without a program. A remarkable feat! But of course BK is not Banks Ladder. As a side note they closed down with the note that they had been threatened with a lawsuit by Ed Trice. I don't pretend to know the details but I did get a kick out of it.
Czuch Chuckers: There are some other tip offs. For instance a record of 100 wins 0 Losses and 100 draws means a Program has been playing another Program which almost always ends in a draw as well as against regular people who it will beat 100 out of 100 times. LOL
Reza is a fine young man who was undefeated when he played me a checker game. Mid way through he inquired if I was using a program (very politely) and I assured him I was not. I was flattered he thought I was playing on that level. My very un-machine like ending where I turned sure victory into a draw convinced him. LOL. He is a very bright and promising young guy and I have nothing but good things to say about him. (not that he needs MY endorsement) LOL
Summertop: Webtv has zero to do with computers and today has been mega sluggish. Every other site I tried is quick but I don't think it's Fencers problem or there is anything he can do about it.
You should get your rating number right away (+ or - points) but your ranking which depends on how other players of that game are finishing at that moment may be adjusted less often.
How hard would be to accept plain old VISA or Mastercard like thousands of business's do worldwide? There are too many middlemen and hoops to jump though here. JMO
