baddessi: We are very small country. There are (on BK.com) more english speaking peoples than native czech speakers. :) If You are able to stay together, try to find more than only 13 persons. On start I looking for 30 person. But I didnt find .....
Czuch Chuckers: I think that 13 of them stepping up and contributing is worthy of the server news. Yes, many others have individually done a lot for the site, but I thought it was cool that a group banded together for the good of BK.
Antichrist: yes, it is a site created by Fencer who is Czech, but I see people from all over the world playing on here.
Czuch Chuckers: If it's not your opinion, and this is not a debate board - why even bring it up? All it looks like to me and many others is you just trying to cause trouble.... I mean if it was your opinion, I guess I would understand a little more.... but when it is not even your opinion, then why even bring it up????
baddessi: It is not the tournament which I am propossing as racist..... I am pointing out for discussion the possibility that the recognition of 13 Czech members for their contribution of $45.00 in the server news at the exclusion of many others who have contributed more, and to promote in the server news a tournament which has limited membership appeal, is at least inappropriate, and at its worst an act of racism.
(this is just an attempt to stimulate discussion, and not my personal opinion :)
I don't think of it as racist at all. They want a special prize tourney for their country, so be it. Anyone else here is welcome to do the same : )
As Merrily said down the page, there was talk of doing one for English speaking people and wasn't started for lack of interest. The Czechs put their money up, they should be commended, noted on server news and not criticized. If there was more interest, others could do the same. I would donate to an English speaking prize tourney. Anyone else?
Of course I am only playing the 'devils advocate' here. As many know who have discussions with me in politics boards, I disagree with political correctness and all its trimmings. I am for individual freedoms. But it surprises me that the many good liberals on this site who champion socialism and equality among all above all else, have not come forward with your own complaints..... your views would be far more compelling if you werent so afraid to voice them in all circumstances!
Also curious that it was a tournament for only Czech members yet it was worthy for all on brainking to be informed. It could have easily been posted to the Czech version without bothering those of us who are not Czech.
Bry.... atleast you were able to find one good example, you only had to go back a year or two :) At least that example it was actually an issue for all of Brainking and not just one particular race.
Bry: Of course you are right. And it was also advertised on BrainKing.info site and several more places. But some people will always complain about anything, it doesn't matter. That's why I don't see these accusations worth responding from my side.
Czuch Chuckers: I might be wrong, but when LindaJ created the BG tournament that was $5 to enter with a $50 prize, that too was advertised on Server News with public gratitude.
Czuch Chuckers: It has happened in the past too Chuck
members of CS and friends have been mentioned for special donation attempts, but others havent...so this is not a "race" issue
Purple: I understand that. I am sure those Czech players did not donate for the public gratitude either. It just seems curious that because they all are Czech and the site creator is Czech, that they should recieve public gratitude that others who have donated more have not recieved.
Obviously the quick brush off by Fencer gives some credit to this charge of 'racism'
Bry: I dont think of it as racist..... but my beef is that by the site creator making a public comment of 'endless gratitude' for those Czech players who donated $44.00 U.S. to Brainking, yet we have never seen such public gratitude for others, many who have surly given far more than that sum, that appears to me as a bit racist.
ughaibu: I agree, are Team USA Fellowship or England Thru and Thru racist?
The server news has simply highlighted the tournament that will bring much needed revenue to the site, which I am sure is appreciated. As the Server News says, it's design and layout is upto the creator of it. If they want it for Czech people only, well so be it.
I dont see what's racist about it. Should Bernice's men only and women only ponds be disallowed as sexist? Should beginners tournaments be disallowed as ratingist?
Im a goodun: Someone tried to do the same for English-speaking players but it was cancelled due to lack of interest.
Of course the site owner is grateful for any revenue no matter from what source. I'm sure he's do the same if a similar tournament was held for red-haired monks with lisps from Belarus.
rod03801: Thank you for your prompt reply! My question was not about the tournament creator, but rarher about the site promoting racist policies through Server News! Does the site owner(s) have any principles on the promotion of racist policies within the site?
Im a goodun: Yes, a tournament creator can set up whatever parameters they want for their tournament. So, it would be perfectly acceptable to do that. Why not become a paid member and do just that? :-)
Is it not a bit racist to advertise a prize, available to players from one country only?
Would it also be acceptable to site policy to promote a prize available to everyone EXCEPT Czechs??
Czuch Chuckers: oh i agree it souldnt kick in if they are here,i cant imagine being here and not playing?..LOL
i go mad at home if i cant get here at least........most of the day!..heheee!
Niki: Ohhhh thanks! That is hardly $13,000 dollars now is it! Actually it is less than $45 dollars donation per person. I wonder who has given the most money to Brainking for memberships? I am sure there must be many more people who deserve "endless gratitude" if all it takes is a $45 dollar donation?
Dont get me wrong.... it is far more than I will likely ever give, but what about all the other people who have given their hard earned money in donation to Brainking and never recieved any recognition in the server news for 'endless gratitude'? I may be wrong (again) but it seems like there are probably many people who deserve such an honor wo have pledged far more money to Brainking?
Now I see it says $13,000 not $15,000 and it is "membership value" whatever that means... It still sounds like you got $13,000 though... maybe you will clairify this for me/us?
Fencer: Whoops! My bad! I thought the server news said that $15,000 had been given to Brainking in exchange for a membership! That would certainly help buy that new server..... I guess I just misread the news or something, sorry :)
Tulip: I dont think anybody disagrees with autovacation to kick in when we are not online here. But Stevies point is ( and many agree) that if you are online here autovacation option should not be kicked in for you. Now if you should have a day set as a vacation day and happen to still get online, then your vacation day should still be used if needed.
I think that normal games should maybe be allowed to take advantage of this rule, but a tournament?? Planned hoildays...YES but not technical issues, or things like that? You would not get conditions like that in a real tournament?
i play on an NTL box through my tv,its well known as a lousy server.
last year i timed out in 24 games as i couldnt get on-line for over 3 days.
i now have auto vacation set in case it happens again.
NTL was off for nearly a week last month and i was glad of the auto feature as it saved my games
Aragon:some players will be on site but not move a game, hence auto vacation kicks in and delays a game. i feel if a player is on site and times out..it should be just that, a time out
Aragon, do you know about auto-vacation?
Also, the system updates every hour (or so) so if that game will time out, it will happen in the next hour.
Unless they have auto vacation on.
