Temo: Re: Like this toureny time left to move 6day and 9 hours not 3day
mrloupcity: It's the weekend days. From your example, you weekends are set for Monday & Thursday - Maxxina has weekends of Saturday & Sunday - So that is 4 days a week which are added to any game between you two (if the game falls on those days.)
I'm guessing for some reason, when the recent switch to the different languages, some users did not have a "prefered" language set or something - so no discussion boards would show up in the list. Once they change it, and change it back to what they want - the problem is fixed.
wayney: Actually the access to that board got changed to Rook read/write access.
It has now been changed back to the default of Guest can read, Pawns can write. I will check all public boards to make sure the default has not been changed on other boards.
You have to remember that the Global Moderator idea is still pretty new here, and things may not always be smooth - but we are working on that. We have recently created a fellowship which includes Fencer, where we are talking & discussing any Global Moderators issues. And at any time, if any user feels they have an issue which needs help or discussed by the GM’s (Global Moderators), then please send one of us a message asking that it be copied to the fellowship and we will be happy to discuss it. We are also trying to find easier ways to do this – again, we are still new at this so give us some time to start working smoothly.
We ask that moderating issues and such be taking up in private – this is not to try to “silence” anyone, but to try to manage a situation in private without bringing a lot of issues, emotions, and other people into the problem – compounding it to a point where nothing we do is correct. Having someone go to multiply boards to complain about something is in no way going to help the situation, but make it worse. I mean what is another user who reads this going to do to help the situation? Nothing.
Outline on what should be done:
1) First look and see if you deserved to be moderated – Did your post have foul language? Could it have offended someone? Could it have been taken as an insult?
2) If you feel you were moderated for an unfair reason, then you should contact that moderator and discuss it with them in private.
3) If that does not take you anywhere and still feel you need to talk to someone, contact a GM. (English = BIG BAD WOLF, harley, bumble, NOT a floosie, Bry, and Eriisa. Londo I believe handles Czech issues on the Czech boards.) – We can bring the issue up on the GM Fellowship board, which Fencer is also a member, and discuss the issue as a group as needed.
Also, as with any decision from Fencer or a GM – not everyone is going to be happy. We try to look at the complete site – a “Family” site. What is OK by one person may not be OK by another. This is a private gaming site owned by Fencer, and even though some will try to keep talking about “freedom of speech” and such – that does not change the fact that this is a private game site owned by Fencer, and is a game site which he would like to be family friendly - and will do what is needed to keep it this way. (With the regular Moderators and Global moderators here to help.)
Moderation by any regular moderator, or GM, or Fencer is not intended to silence opinions, but rather to maintain an environment in which everyone can have fun.
I've always wondering if someones membership ran out, and then purchased a new one - would they get 30 new days, or have what they had before their membership ran out. Nothing that will effect me, but wondered.
Maybe a question for Fencer, maybe someone else can answer.
When you use auto-vacation, I know that when a game reaches 0 time, 24 hours is added on. (But the rest of your games get nothing added on.)
When you use to have to use Vacation days, if you scheduled a vacation day, 24 hours was added to ALL your games (not just the ones that are getting ready to expire).
My question - is it still like that, or does scheduling a vacation day act like auto-vacation and just add time to the expired games only?
Chessmaster1000: Well I might be able to some-what help on a couple of those.
first - good question, but I can't answer. The formula that is on the website has to deal with mostly live games and such, so I would agree that a clearly written formula that is used on this site would be nice - I could never get the one that is listed on the website to come out correctly - always off. (Which also when the ratings are rounded to whole numbers also messes up my calculations...)
Second - As a side note, you may not actually win 0 points - you could be winning .2 rating points, which would show as 0 points gained.
Third - 2700 is the limit on this site, and there are a couple of games which a few people have hit the 2700 point. (and can not go any higher)
Forth - I'm glad I'm not the only one who almost always gains and losed 8 rating points in every backgammon game I play. (Except if I lose to an extremly lower ranked player - then I usually lose 16 points.) But I have over 700 backgammon games played, so I would expect it to be a little more consistant like that. But like you, in other games like Hyper Gammon (300+ games played), the ratings are very wild still for me - where after 300, I would expect to start seeing them to at least start settling down a little.
Fifth - Activate pulldown game menu - is that from the Java script settings page? If so, that is when you have your mouse over the top left corner of any page, it will bring down a quick drop-down menu.
Czuch Chuckers: If it's not your opinion, and this is not a debate board - why even bring it up? All it looks like to me and many others is you just trying to cause trouble.... I mean if it was your opinion, I guess I would understand a little more.... but when it is not even your opinion, then why even bring it up????
EdTrice: I think what has made many upset is the fact that they are now playing against "a machine" without being told - and if they knew before they joined the tournament that they would be playing against a computer - it may be a little different.
I don't see a problem with him using his SMIRF program IF everyone he plays knows about it before hand - and actually the games should also be non-rated also - otherwise it will cheat not only who plays against him, but also everyone else who has a rating.
I don't like that idea because sometimes I will add a person (who lets say is causing trouble posting on boards) - I will add them to my friends list so I can see when they are on-line, and in turn watch the boards a little closer to make sure nothing inaproprate gets posted...... so I really don't need them knowing that I've added them.
Radiant 36 9: In a fellowship, you do not actually "hide" someone from everyone else - all you are doing is hiding them from yourself in that fellowship - everyone else can still see it.
pauloaguia: One of the first purposes of the BrainKing.info site was to give information to the users during down time (Since that site is on a different server then the game site.)
So if there is a time that you could not get to the brainking.com/brainking.cz site, you could go to the brainking.info site and hopefully get an update about the problem if it is a bigger problem that will not be fixed shortly. Luckly it has not been used for that reason very much.
Czuch Chuckers: I believe Fencer agreed it would be good to just have the 1 backgammon board instead of 2.
For Chess, the Gothic & Janus (10x8 boards) get a lot of post, so it is good to have the 10x8 board - not sure if we need both a 8x8 board & generated position board.
Same for Checkers - not sure if we need both a 8x8 board and a 10x8 board since we don't even have any 10x8 games (yet), a good place to combine a little more.
Temo: Re: How the game discussion boards will be reduced
Fencer: Beter - will not have tons of boards with 10 post for the past 2 years!
Question: Do we have any 10x10 Checker variant games?
Comment: Feel free to combine the Backgammon & Backgammon variants boards into just 1 board. All the gammon games are some-what similar, and will do fine as just 1 board for all gammon games. (in my opinion.)
Actually angelfire is a set of "free websites" which anyone can go and set up a website for free - so you can guess many "bad" sites have been made in the past - which is why I would guess someone in Iran just blocked "all angelfire" sites to be safe.
ArtfulDodger: I'm not sure what you mean by unban someone from a fellowship. You mean unban someone from a fellowship board. - You can hide/ban unhide/unban on a fellowship board without effecting the persons membership in the actual fellowship.
Jason: That is interesting. I wonder if I were to set 30 days worth of vacation, play all my games so when they come back on the game sheet with those 30 days worth of vacations - what would happen if I then go and remove all the vacation days.
Since they would already be on my game sheet with the 30 days vacation, would that still be there, or would the normal time out still be there.
I've never heard about what you are talking about Jason - then again, I now just let auto vacation take effect if I need it.
I agree with you Chessmaster 1000, I liked it a lot beter when it would be added to the main page also.
BUT I think the change was mostly done for performance reasons on the server side - rather then having to calculate if vacations is there while displaying every line of turns on the main page, but now only when the "time out" script runs. Fencer has done many of these "little things" to help the performance of the server, and the site has been doing very good recently!
That is correct - you will no longer see the time actually change on the game sheet to take in effect vacations. What happens is when the time "runs out", the script will check if you have a vacation set (or auto vacation set), and if so - will add 24 hours at that time.
ughaibu: I was thinking that once you started making a move, you could not go through the move history without either first submitting or cancling the move.
I like the 6 month time limit for paid members. 1 or 3 months can fly by quickly, and for some longer type games (like anti backgammon), it can take 3-4 months just to complete 1 game (even with both players moving daily.)
I like the idea of removing inactive players from the charts. I will just have to remember to play a game of each game type every 6 months.
= = = = =
Removal of pawns from charts. I kind of like the idea - give another prevledge to paid members.
But another negative to that is some paid members like to find like-rated players to play, and it would then not make it easy to find them if they are pawns. For example, *IF* I was the best ranked on the ratings board in Backgammon, I would want to know if a pawn has a higher rank then I do to challenge that person to a game. But if they do not show up on the ratings board, it would be hard for me to find them.
