The whole reason I bought the matter up, is because I am a paying member (and believe me with the exchange rate when I joined it cost me closer to $80AUD) is the fact paying members are being disadvantaged by not being able to access the server at all times because of there is too much traffic. So what is the solution? For those of us who do not have all day to try and access a computer to find those times when the server is not overloaded and I am sure it is not just me, it is very offputting, especially when there are sites out there which do not have this problem. Limiting moves for non paying members seems a fair thing, after all they have not contributed any financial aid to keeping the site running. I understand some people say they cannot afford a membership, but they always seem to be able to afford their internet connection! Perhaps it is just paying the lump sum for a yearly connection which makes it more difficult? Would it help if there was an option for quarterly or even monthly memberships? Would this encourage more people to join? Or are a small % of people going to be the only ones to pay to keep this site running?
Temo: Re: Members Only Board and limiting non-members moves
After getting the "sorry the site server is at capacity right now" message three times this morning, perhaps non-members should be restricted to 20 moves a day, this may give the paying members more chance of accessing the site and give the non-members more incentive to pay the much needed membership monies? $2 a week sounds pretty cheap, (it cost me a lot more with the exchange rate) there can't be many things you can buy in the US for $2.
all I ask for is for the time clock to be turned off when the site is experiencing problems, this would make all of our lives easier, including Fencer's who must be tired of reinstating games. People who do have limited time to play (and we do exist!) shouldn't have to feel like we have to dive for the computer at every spare moment to try and log in and catch up...Personally I don't care if I get extra membership days...I would just like to be able to play when I have the time and not to have to worry about timing out if the site is experiencing problems, (which has been 5 out of 7 days in the past week for me anyway)
I have no other problems with other sites, just this one, it finally loaded this morning, very slowly, from what others are saying, perhaps I have having problems as the times I can play just happen to be the busiest times of day for the site.
Ok i cant get answers elsewhere, and I know I am not the only one who has been having problems. The past couple of days it has been hell trying to get into this site, either the page will not load at all or you play a couple of moves and hit white page, or it is like watching paint dry trying to do anything here. I have had a few games time out because I simply can't sit at my computer all day and wait for the site to come back online, it is very frustrating, I understand Fencer is trying his hardest to get things happening properly here, BUT why if people are having problems, is the time clock not turned OFF. It is pretty offputting to time out on games which normally would not have happened, I happily paid my membership, but at present the frustration of not being able to play is making me feel like not bothering anymore, or perhaps coming back in 6 months when the problems are solved. Either that or use up all my vacation days so my games don't time out...
Is anyone else finding the site slow today, I have trashed cookies ect. and everywhere else is quick...oh woe and to have 109 games to get thru as well :-)
I had it happen this morning and after going into the panic..OMG all my games are going to time out, I had a double espresso, calmed down, trashed the brainking cookies and got in here right away...LOL
I just logged in tonight and found a new thingy above my game list, its highlighted and green and asks me if I wish to sign up for a particular tournament, is this a new feature, are we going to have lots of these appear on our game sheets, and if so can we choose not to have them, or only have the ones in the games we play? please? :-)
the thing is, if you are going to have a game, you should have the correct rules, they are rules which the majority of sites and players in the world follow.
So we should not have the illegal move, nor should we have draws in rated backgammon matches. I always figure if you are going to do something you may as well do it right :-)
Goldtoken also allows the illegal move. I would like to note also that a lot of players do not realise it is an illegal move as they have never played on a real board. So they figure if the site allows it, then it should be. I am hoping Fencer fixes it soon :-)
Fencer is anything is place to prevent people from playing under multi ids? It seems to be the commonest form of cheating at other sites and can affect the best players list a lot.
Temo: Re: fencer..I think this idea may be ok y/n?
another gammon variation, actually a variant on race, is called Greek Backgammon (quite possibly know by other names) It is essentially the same as race excepting when you hit your opponents pip, it is not sent to the bar but is held there for as long as you leave the pip covering it in place. Its a lot of fun don't know how difficult it would be to set up. I have never seen it on another website.
i just finished a backgammon game and as i submitted the site went down, I did not receive the "you have won message" or get a change in my rating, although the game has vanished and shows as a win on my profile...is there a reason for this?
The rating system doesnt seem to make sense, i completed 4 wins in backgammon race and started with a rating of 1890, now I have completed 4 wins in nackgammon and started with rating of 1550, no losses in either game, why is there such a huge difference in ratings?
I learnt to play backgammon with the board this way round...however most online sites seem to have it the opposite..perhaps I should take advantage of everyones confusion here?? LOL
