Bernice: as for the possible new owner of BK, I have nothing but respect for Fencer and all he has done to create and maintain this awesome game site, but if it changes hands, I will be happy to help the new owner in any ways I can
Bernice: The only option I saw was to click on auto-vacation. I have 35 days left so it should be fine. I remember in the past you could set actual days, but auto will be fine. Thanks everyone for all the help! I will be gone the 4th thru the 20th if I time out, then sorry!
alilsassy: just wanted you to know that I saw your question and looked all thru help and FAQ and couldn't find any explanations for vacation days. This might be a good thing to request on "featured Requests" board. Just wanted you to know that I looked and couldn't find an answer for you. It is confusing!
Fencer: I read complaints about the site regularly, and yes, this issue can use some attention. Frustruating for paying members, but a small thing in a big picture. What I don't often read is a thanks to you and Liquid for all your hard work and all you do for the site. You must get so many complaints and PMs on a daily basis, and yet you still reply to us. Don't know of any other site owners who do this. So thank you Fencer! I have been here since 2004 and will probably always stay a member. Still my favorite game site-blows most other right out of the water! Just wanted you to read a nice post today! Thanks!
Tuesday: I didn't think he was rude at all, but thanks...and thanks Vikings for accepting membership...now for time to read and I don't need a fluff board I was just curious...wanted to see both sides of the Obama?McCain thing, tho it's kind of a moot point now, but am always interested in hearing both sides, so the debate club is a good idea for me. ..thanks
Tuesday: HI Cool on getting the new membership and I understand you are the next victim....err..I mean honoree to be interviewed Thanks for the info..I will check out the Debate Club
anastasia: I have 4 differ3ent browsers on my computer for different reasons. None of them interfer with the others. I mainly use safari for this site only. You don't have to switch, just use it for the sites you want
anastasia: I have trouble off and on with the site, but especially when I use IE. A friend suggested I download safari..it's a free download and a great browser...and the site works great for me with it. I think you can just go to safari.com and it will walk ya thru..hope that helps! Also, on the computers board, there's alot of discussion on different browsers to use. Good luck!
Eriisa: it was a little more technical an answer than I was looking for, but I understand the part loud and clear about a detailed overview appearing on the blog soon. That is what we have all been asking for, so thanks Fencer.
Jim Dandy: yes, I agree...the tone has regressed....and yes, because of frustruation. But my point is, that the tone of the board isn't helping the situation. More people are stepping up and respctfully saying that, yes, they have a problem. It's my hope that those posts won't be lost in the 'regressed tone' of the others.
Jim Dandy: I have to agree with Vikings....I respond that way in my work as well...I reward positive customers with exceptional service...those who are difficult and treat me disrespectfully, I don't encourage them to return...and yes, that is best for most any business.
Anastasia: yes, we want to be heard, but the intentional baiting, scorn and negative attitudes of some of the posts on this board are going to do the opposite I'm afraid and as redfrog said "run the risk or ruining any chance of a response for all of us"
And I haven't seen any posts about this subject that were removed where someone simply expressed their concerns about the speed of the site.
Hrqls: I recently left most fellowships I'm not active in and cleaned up my list of favorite boards. I keep my message box clean all the time now...little changes do seem to help somewhat...I guess less is more?
coan.net: thanks for posting that again. I've done many of your suggestions and they seem to help move my pages alot quicker...sometimes..other times, it drags....like you , sometimes fast and sometimes slow, but mostly slow.
I think why it's become such a subject as of late is because it wasn't a problem for most of us for years and then in the last couple of months, it's gotten really bad....so maybe we're overlooking an obvious solution or cause? The addition of embedded videos? Server changes? I don't know...but hopeful it will get sorted eventually.
But your post does help some of us make changes to make our pages more efficient..thanks! I also like your idea for a "minimal" version of BK
Andersp: yes, that's something to consider...but I want to be hopeful and think that problems will get solved..and think that we will do more to sway him by polite posts..I'm not saying we should totally 'suck up' , but just think that negative posts aren't going to do alot to influenece him to want to help us.
Have to say that I'm happy to see people I don't normally see post here, like antje, beach, anastasia, Abigail, or2ak.com, gammonator and others speaking up as well...so he can be aware that there really ARE alot of us having problems...and that's it's not limited to just a select few....
Andersp: I'll give you that...you have spoken up for a long time and have legitimate frustruations.
I can't speak for Fencer, but I would guess the reason he doesn't respond is exactly because people ARE screming with frustruation. He has said that he doesn't have answers to the problems at this point. Ok, he's working on cosmetics and some of us might think that site access is a priority, but the fact of the matter is that he IS working on the site. I would venture to guess that he is investigating access problems as well, but has no new answers at this point, and that is why he is not saying anything about it.
I am hopeful that the access problems will be taken care of in time as well, but he doesn't have answers to that right now and doesn't wish to spend his time saying that over and over again. I imagine he is just as frustruated with the situation as we all are.
But I think that polite and meant to help posts, for example the ones from Antje and Rose in the past day or so, may encourage him to read and participate in this board more than the ones where people are focusing on his rude behavior and arguements about what's on topic and such. Just my opinion....
I would like to see people give our mods a break. I think they have gone above and beyond here in being fair and objective. I have done this job, and it is time consuming and sometimes frustruating. They are doing a great job and I thank them for their time, their objectivity and consideration. I also understand the frustruation of people having trouble, but I agree that by stepping back and trying to work together peacefully, instead of fighting back and forth, we can accomplish a whole lot more. Sure, Fencer has gone off a few times. Many of us have "Gone off a few times". Can't we put it behind us and move forward together?
Give the mods a break. They are not causing the troubles here. They are only trying to help. Thanks
because I too am having trouble. I have been on this site since 2004 and have never complained on any board. I speak up now because, in my opinion, there are many people NOT speaking up. It isn't just a few people having trouble. I play many people from this side of the pond, and most of them are frustruated and experiencing the same thing. Slow loading pages, blank pages, not being able to access the site. Altho I'm on the same side of the pond as Rose and Anders, I'm 2500 miles south of where Rose lives, so it is affecting a vast area, not a local problem, and there are as many differnt ISP providers as there are players, so it can't just be certain providers. It has become much worse in the last few months. I'm not familiar with much computer lingo, but my husband is. He earns his living with computers. He is paid very well to know everything about them. We have 3 top of line computers in this house and 3 Dell laptops. It reacts the same on all of these computers, as well as at his office, where they have to have the fastest computers that money can buy. So it isn't a computer problem(ex:slow computers, overloaded caches) I have problems where I live sometimes with access, but not in the town where he works, and not where my daughter lives, 25 miles north of us. But the problems with BK are the same at all locations. From what I've heard from people in my games, most of them are having the same problem over here in the US and Canada. It is the majority of them, and from what I have experienced, the minority is the few NOT having problems. I hope my post here will be viewed not as a complaint, but as helpful information to the site owner that I honestly feel that accessing brainking over here IS a real problem. I don't have this problem with any other site on the net. And yes, the majority is silent, and I'm afraid that if it continues, they will just silently stop supporting the site and leave. I am not leaving because I have great friends here and love this site, and if I have to play slow to play here, I will continue to do so. But I worry about the ones that do leave, becuase it is alot of revenues for the site and I hate for it to suffer because of lack of support from the US and Canada. It's my hope that something can be done to correct these problems and we can all continue to enjoy this site.
I think a survery would be a great idea to trouble shoot just where the problems are, and who is being affecting the most, in hopes that something can be done to correct the problems. Thanks.
I am not leaving the site at this time, just stepped down from moderating. I am working alot of odd hours, have alot going on with my family life and yes, have some trouble with my internet...some of it due to a transition from RR to comcast in my area...and probably some problems with the site here...so yes, my pages load slowly, but I have no problems with anyone on the site here and am do not want my leaving to be viewed as "being on the front lines of discontent".
We have some great new globals, and I felt that with Hrqls, coan.net and redfrog taking care of things here, this board was in good hands without me, so stepped down. That's really all there is to it. They can give the time and attention the board needs and I'm just not able to do it at this time.
Thanks to those of you for your kind words and support, but really that's all there is to it.
But can't resist one more time saying...
please return this board to its intended purpose, brainking, it's structure, features and future.
