srnity: I think(as anastasia mentioned) it's important to remember the aspect of image in his situation. He's losing endorsements left and right.I doubt he'll be proven to not be involved in the sport, that alone will destroy his career, regardless of it being declared a misdemenor or felony.

anastasia: Sadly I don't think much is going to happen to Michael Vick (or the other defendants), as Emma said, it's only animal abuse and cruelty, and our standards of punishment aren't strict enough where that's concerned.....Anyone know if there are any actual felony charges pending, or is it all just misdemeanors?

heavenlyemma: I'm on my third shelter dog (and I'm her thirteenth home, how crazy is THAT?!), I've had three shelter bunnies at different times, two shelter snakes, and an incredibly beautiful and loving shelter ferrett ... I almost took home a fox once, too, but was afraid of him, so I chickened out Wish people would stop wanting puppies and kittens and go get those sitting in a cage just waiting for someone to love them

srnity: Thats wonderful that you get your animals from the shelter!! I wanted one from the shelter (have had several and they are WONDERFUL dogs!!) but the kennal master where we got Damien from talked my husband out of it...(we were GOING to get Damien,no question about that..but we were also going to get a second dog around the same time..and I wanted a shelter dog) GRRR! I do not regret Damien in anyway shape or form BUT I really would have like to have given him a lil sissy from the shelter.I am glad their are people out there that will!! Damien's new lil sister is also not a shelter dog BUT I know that we will give her a wonderful home with lots of love and excercise and training (and dog cookies,LOL!!!)

Tigger: I agree..I really don't think that he will get off to light..ok maybe no jail time (which he should die in there as fas as I am concerned) but Tigger has it right..public opinion is 100% against him..e-mails,pickiting,and public out-cry has been the MAJOR forces behind his endorsments being pulled.I am sure that his suspention from the NFL will soon follow.I think he should be made to volunteer at animal clinics/shelters untill the day he dies. The things he is said to have done to those dogs..he and the OTHERS...don't forget their are others involved that must also be punished......is unforgivable.

heavenlyemma: They need to hit him BIG in the wallet, or give him incredible amounts of Humane Society Community Work.....I volunteered at an animal shelter in my neighborhood years ago & it changed me for life. After REALLY seeing just how many "pets" they put down every day of the year, I will NEVER, EVER have a pet that is anything but a mutt, or unwanted, or abandoned in my lifetime again - until people stop seeing pets as "owned" and/or "disposable", things can't change.....When a "shelter" doggie, kitty, ferrett, bunny, snake, whatever, comes home with you, you have just saved a life & even if they can't say how much it means to them to be rescued, somebody upstairs is smiling down on you *My pitch for Animal Rescue Shelters everywhere - Bless Them For All They Do*

Following tens of thousands of e-mails to Nike, as well as PETA protests outside <span>Niketown stores calling on the company to cut ties with Michael Vick in light of horrific allegations of his involvement with dogfighting rings, Nike has released the following statement:

"Nike has suspended Michael Vick's contract without pay, and will not sell any more Michael Vick product at Nike-owned retail at this time."

Thanks to all of you for writing to the company about this issue—this couldn't have happened without your support.

Reebok has also made the decision to stop sales of Michael Vick apparel, stating:

"While we respect the legal process we find the allegations against Mr. Vick too disturbing to ignore, therefore, we have decided to immediately suspend selling Vick NFL product, both at retail and online through the Reebok website."

This is great news for anyone who is concerned about cruelty to animals. But we still need your help! Please <span>click here to ask the NFL to follow Nike’s lead and suspend Michael Vick immediately.

Thank you for all that you do for animals

TO DOGS! IT CAN BE LETHAL!!!!
PLEASE NEVER GIVE IT TO YOUR DOGS OR LEAVE CHOCOLATES SITTING OUT WHERE YOUR BELOVED PET CAN GET INTO IT AND CONSUME A LETHAL QUANTITY.

"Snoopy":

YES, MY COMMENTS WERE MEANT
AS GENERAL INFO FOR EVERYONE, SNOOPY. I WASN'T POINTING FINGERS AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR
BUT JUST STATING THE OBVIOUS THAT POPSICLES ARE NOTHING BUT SUGAR AND WATER AND FOOD COLORING. IT IS BETTER TO GIVE DOGS PLAIN ICE CUBES. REFINED SUGAR IS NOT GOOD FOR DOGS OR HUMANS FOR THAT MATTER! NOT THAT IT WILL "KILL" THEM BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT GOOD FOR THEM EITHER.

WILD CANIDS DO EAT A PARTIALLY MIXED DIET BUT THEIR PRIMARY SOURCE OF NUTRITION COMES FROM
PROTEIN - RAW MEAT - FROM PREY
THEY KILL. WOLVES AND WILD DOGS
EAT RAW MEAT AND BONES, AND WHEN THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE THEY DO SUPPLEMENT THEIR DIETS WITH WILD GRASSES AND BERRIES, YES.
BUT CARNIVORES ARE DEFINITELY MEAT EATERS - THAT IS THEIR NATURAL AND PRIMARY SOURCE OF NUTRITION.

THE PET FOOD INDUSTRY HAS TRIED TO CHANGE AND INFLUENCE WHAT WE FEED OUR PETS AND NOW WE HAVE EPIDEMICS OF OBESE PETS WITH ALL KINDS OF HEALTH PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM POOR AND/OR INAPPROPRIATE DIETS.

WE HAVE OVERWEIGHT PETS, PETS WITH DIABETES, AND ORTHOPEDIC ISSUES THAT ALL STEM FROM BEING FED COMMERCIAL PET FOODS WHICH ARE PRIMARILY GRAINS, NOT MEAT, IN MOST CASES. EVEN PREMIUM DOG FOODS CONTAIN HIGH RATIOS OF GRAINS. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: PET FOOD MANUFACTURERS ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MONEY! THEY ARE IN IT FOR PROFIT AND MANY COMPANIES CUT CORNERS TO INCREASE THOSE PROFITS AS EVIDENCED BY THE RECENT PET FOOD SCARE BACK IN MARCH AND APRIL.

AND STILL THERE ARE PETS DYING FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE TOXIC SUBSTANCES THAT WERE PUT INTO HUNDREDS OF BRANDS OF PET FOOD, INCLUDING THE MOST EXPENSIVE PREMIUM BRANDS ON THE MARKET!! THAT IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT AND KEEP IN MIND!

WE DO NOT REALLY KNOW WHERE OUR PET FOOD IS COMING FROM SINCE MANY OF THE INGREDIENTS ARE IMPORTED EVEN THOUGH THE FOOD IS PROCESSED HERE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. THE SAME CAN ALSO BE SAID FOR HUMAN FOODS AS WELL. THIS IS A SCARY TIME WE LIVE IN NOW AND WE MUST KEEP INFORMED ABOUT WHAT WE FEED OUR ANIMALS AND OURSELVES AS BEST WE CAN. THE DECISIONS WE MAKE COULD WELL BE LIFE OR DEATH DECISIONS AS SOME PET OWNERS FOUND OUT THIS PAST SPRING.

THE FDA AND USDA INSPECTIONS OF HUMAN FOOD PRODUCTS ARE WOEFULLY INADEQUATE AND ALL TO INFREQUENT, AND THERE ARE NO RULES OR REGULATIONS IN PLACE TO MONITOR PET FOOD AT ALL! MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT
AND THINK IF THEY FIND A FOOD ON THE SHELF AT THE STORE THAT IT MUST BE SAFE AND NUTRITIOUS.
THAT SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE!

SEAWOLF2: Actually,if you read studies about wild wolves they do eat berries and other such things that contain natural sugars. They have also been noted to eat certain plants..thus deriving the "raw" diet that has become so popular (not among myself tho)

Also...it's a popsickle..not like I am throwing a cup of sugar down my dogs throat..he gets ice cream,ONE SCOOP every now and again...it has NOT effected his bowel movements because I do not give him that much at a time..thanks for your concern, but trust me..I am NOT going to feed a $2,000.00 dog somthing that is going to kill him

srnity:

THAT IS TRUE! DOGS SHOULD NOT EAT THE SAME DIET AS PEOPLE AS THEY ARE TRUE CARNIVORES (MEAT
EATERS) AND REQUIRE PROTEIN, NOT TOO MUCH FAT, AND NO SUGAR!
THEY CANNOT METABOLIZE IT!

WATERMELON HAS NATURAL SUGARS WHICH ARE NOT AS HARMFUL AS THE REFINED SUGAR USED IN HUMAN SWEETS AND TREATS. THE SUGAR IN ICE CREAM AND POPSICLES IS A REAL NO-NO THOUGH! THE DAIRY IN ICE CREAM IS NOT ONLY HIGH IN FAT CONTENT, BUT ADULT DOGS CANNOT METABOLIZE THE LACTOSE.
(PUPPIES REQUIRE THEIR MOTHER'S MILK TO ACQUIRE THE NATURAL ANTIBODIES FROM THE COLOSTRUM THE FIRST FEW WEEKS AFTER BEING WHELPED, BUT AS ADULTS THEY NO LONGER NEED NOR CAN THEY "USE"
OR METABOLIZE MILK PROTEINS.0
THAT IS WHY ICE CREAM OFTEN WILL GIVE ADULT DOGS DIARRHEA.

THERE ARE OTHER TREATS THAT YOU CAN GIVE DOGS THAT ARE MEANT FOR CANINE CONSUMPTION. ONE ICE CREAM LIKE TREAT IS CALLED "FROSTY PAWS" AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THE LACTOSE IN IT THAT REAL ICE CREAM HAS. BUT AS LONG AS IT ISN'T GIVEN IN LARGE AMOUNTS OR VERY OFTEN A SMALL
PORTION OF PLAIN VANILLA ICE CREAM USUALLY WILL NOT CAUSE
MUCH HARM EXCEPT FOR POSSIBLY
LOOSE STOOLS FOR A DAY OR TWO.

AND SPEAKING OF SWEETS: PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CHOCOLATE HAS A CHEMICAL COMPOUND IN IT THAT IS TOXIC TO DOGS - THEOBROMINE. UNDER NO CONDITIONS SHOULD YOU ALLOW YOUR DOGS TO HAVE CANDY CHOCOLATE OR CHOCOLATE-FLAVORED
FOODS CONTAINING COCOA POWDER.

ANOTHER "SWEET" TASTING ITEM YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR ANIMALS
AWAY FROM IS ANTI-FREEZE! NOT
THAT ANYONE WOULD KNOWINGLY
GIVE IT TO THEIR PETS, BUT YOU NEED TO BE WATCHFUL THAT YOUR CAR DOES NOT LEAK AND LEAVE PUDDLES OF ANTIFREEZE WHERE YOUR PET OR YOUR NEIGHBORS PETS COULD GET INTO IT! IT IS VERY
SWEET TO THE TASTE AND DRAWS ANIMALS TO IT EVEN THOUGH IT IS HIGHLY TOXIC AND OFTEN LETHAL IF INGESTED. PLEASE MAKE SURE
YOUR RADIATOR HOSES ARE NOT LEAKING AND THAT THE OVERFLOW HOSE FROM YOUR RADIATOR IS NOT LEAVING PUDDLES OF ANTIFREEZE
WHERE YOUR PETS CAN GET INTO IT. USE PLAIN KITTY LITTER OR
"SPEEDY-DRI" SAND TO ABSORD THE SPILLS AND DISPOSE OF IT IN A COVERED CONTAINER THAT PETS CANNOT GET INTO.

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Bernice: Damien is a plain Jane with his dry Royal Canine formula for GSD.I try to introduce him to new flavors but he really just has no desire.Which I suppose is actaully fine with me,less chance of an upset tummy.I do use hotdogs during training because I hold the pieces in my mouth and reward him that way..also sometimes use liver but that DOESN'T go in my mouth, almost threw up the one time I tried it,LOL!!

He gets a popsickle everynight, any flavor makes him happy but he really seems to like the Red,White, and Blues that we buy.

He will get vanilla ice cream maybe 3 times a year BUT he gets walked or goes on a run everyday and trains hard at the club 2 times a week. Our vet...who,in his opinion says that every dog can stand to lose 5 pounds,lol....says that Damien looks great!! and he does (NOT just saying that cuz I am his Mommy either, lol)

Vegetables. Most veggies are OK for dogs, either raw or cooked.  Rice and pasta are good too.  Our dog eats rice everday as part of her diet.  Cooked meat in small amounts (in moderation).  Our little dog gets boiled chicken daily too.  She's old and a vet recommended it.  It's helped as she had some serious problems with canned dog food.  Some dairy products are fine (low fat) but again, in moderation.

And many dogs love fresh fruits such as apples, berries, bananas, and seedless watermelon.   Once again, moderation is the key.
