i used to give my dog eukenuba...FP when he was having terrible skin problems but it didnt make any difference to him and at $37 AUD per 4kilo bag it was so expensive so i stopped giving it to him.
we also have those brands over here in australia but nothing has been said here.....I dont feed my cat and dog "bought" pet food as I make and prepare all my own so it wont bother me, but what a terrible thing for those that get affected
Rose: I just read on my homepage that now they say it was RAT POISON that was in it!!! OMG! How in the world could something like that happen?? I wouldn't know what to do if something happened to my man...
anastasia: If they did know it was toxic an sold it anyway I hope they all burn for it. Pets are considered 'kids' to many ppl and to lose them thru neglect from a food company is sad. I am lucky to have heard about it early as we had some store brand wet in gravy that we avoided using.
Rose: Thank Goodness we dodged a bullet on that one..we feed royal canin..there have been SEVERAL pets in the local area effected by the recalled food..One guy is the head of one of the local shelters here..his 2 kitties are both very sick from it and being treated by our vet.Just heard on the news that the company may have known it was toxic but chose to ship it anyways..I REALLY hope that is NOT the case!!
As most of you animals lovers in North American likely already know, there has been a recall in many major brands of pet foods. For those that dont, please read
It's that time of year again: The ice floes off the Canadian coast are about to turn red with the blood of the countless baby harp seals who are slaughtered for their fur.
Words cannot describe the cruelty of the annual seal "hunt," which is really more of a massacre and will begin in just a few days. To stop this yearly atrocity, we must generate an international outcry against the Canadian government. I hope that you will support PETA's public call for an end to this slaughter by immediately taking two important actions: Sign PETA's international petition to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Our goal is to gather signatures from more than 50,000 people who want to tell the prime minister that "fashion" is no justification for spilling baby seals' blood.
Support PETA's efforts to stop the slaughter of baby seals and the use of all animals for fur. Your online donation will bring more pressure to bear on the Canadian government and the international fur trade. Canada's annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine animals on Earth. Last year, more than 330,000 baby harp seals were beaten to death so that they could be made into fur coats, collars, and cuffs. The Canadian government claims that hunters only kill adult seals, but 97 percent of the seals killed last year were less than 3 months of age.
Most of these seals are too young to realize that they should try to escape when their killers approach. They lie totally vulnerable on the ice as their heads are bashed in with clubs. Many are dragged across the ice—still conscious—with boat hooks. Often these sensitive animals are skinned alive for their fur. Their bodies are left to rot on the ice because there is no market for their meat.
The Canadian government has authorized hunters to kill more than 335,000 harp seals this year—one of the largest quotas in history. There is no place in the 21st century for this wanton and frivolous cruelty. Canada must end this abomination, but it will take a lot of pressure to compel the government to stop the hunt. PLEASE!!!! go to peta's website and sign the petition to help try and stop this hunt!!!
Tuesday: my Bear always loves to roll in the dust/dirt after a bath, so Im sneaky....I tie him up on his lead and let him wait about 1/2 hour till he partially dries out LOLOL....he is shih-tzu so your talking long hair here and there is nothing worse than a roll in the dirt LOLOL
Ive used feliway... Its a replica of the happy cat pheromone. I have a kitty who pees on my bed every time we bring a new cat in to the home (we rescue cats and most times dont adopt them out once we get attached.) This spray makes her feel happy and not aggitated by the new arrivals.. it works pretty good. Ive never found anything else to work. She has been with us 6 years or longer and she is fine until we bring in a new kitty then for days she will pee. Once she gets some feliway sprayed around her she gets contented. Mind you we have to give her tons of rubbings and pettings ( more than usual) so she knows we still love her. They are like kids I tell you. Good luck with your pee kitties If you need a good product to get the stink out there is a locker room deoderant called Knock out. used in gym bags. It takes the stink outta anything.. even works on eliminating the odor of male spray ( which we had to deal with this week with out latest arrival who is at the hospital right now getting snipped OUCH!)
How long have these kitties been living in the same home? Maybe its a time thing.. I currently have 14 in the home and with in weeks ( some times months for some) they all tend to get along. They eat, sleep an play together usually.
Has anyone here had experience with "Quiet Moments" calming sprays made by NaturVet? I've been mediating a political/territorial cat dispute at home, ever since saving a kitten last summer. As one funny person put it, "I'm nearly at the end of my urine-soaked rope!" (At least) one of my girls pees on my bed every once in a while--at least I got her to stop urinating in my study. It's so aggravating, but I'd really hate to have to send her away from here...
If less drastic measures don't suffice, I may have to administer drugs: paroxetine for the intimidating girl, and/or buspirone for the one who's feeling threatened/cornered.
I'll try the "calming spray" this week. Wish me luck...

I forgot to tell you guys...2 weeks ago when I was coming home with my husband from his PT..we saw a bald eagle!!! OMG!! It was unbelievable! He was flying towards a grouping of trees. We had heard that there was one or 2 in the area but to actually see it...just don't have the words to express it!!!
Bwild: LMAO - I think I've got you beat - my dog used to eat chicken bones galore when we lived in a city, now that we're rural, she LOVES cat poo - we've got stray/outdoor cats everywhere in my little town & she hunts that stuff out, even tho she KNOWS it's wrong, she's got an addiction to it
Tuesday: I give Bear what we call "Y" bone steak every day. It is human food (meat) but very little fat, lots of 1/2 cooked meat and a lovely y-bone to chew on...He just loves them. He also has dried food, and I ocasionally give him chicken necks which he also loves :)

Rose: We give Damien "almost pig ears" a better alternative to real pig ears.We use to give the real ones to Patch,he loved them but the fat is so high in them. Damien loves his rawhide and we usually let him have a bone at all times..BUT..that said,he is NEVER EVER unsupervised while eating one and if he does chew chuncks off,in the trash they go.He is an agressive chewer and we have to keep him with chew things at all times, lol
dogs can easily choke on it when the original large rawhide object is chewed down to a smaller piece. “Choking is a hazard, and rawhide can cause gastric irritation when dogs chew on it often,” he says. Wedeking adds that gastric irritation can also cause vomiting and extreme discomfort in dogs. 'Tests on imported pet products made from animal hides by UK health authorities revealed many carried the salmonella bug, a common cause of gastro-intestinal infections in humans." "They found that one in three batches imported from Thailand and one in eight from China contained salmonellas that had survived processing and manufacturing"

These well-liked dog treats are purchased in large numbers, especially around holidays, by well-meaning dog owners hoping to give their pets something special. These toys are favorites for many dogs and are popular with owners because they keep their pets occupied and supposedly out of trouble during holiday activities. There are definite risks associated with these treats, however. All three types are supposedly made of digestible animal products. However, they are digested quite slowly and, if consumed rapidly, can cause either vomiting or diarrhea from the many pieces still sitting undigested in the GI tract. If the treats are swallowed whole or in large chunks, there are additional dangers. Rawhide chews can lodge in the throat and cause choking, or a large piece may be swallowed, scraping and irritating the throat and esophagus on the way down. Once in the stomach or intestinal tract, a large piece of rawhide can also create a physical obstruction. An additional danger that is less widely known is the practice, in some countries, of using an arsenic-based preservative in the processing of rawhide toys. We recommend that, if you do purchase these products, stick to brands processed in the U.S. There has also been a recent FDA alert about the risk of Salmonella accociated with dog chew products made from pork or beef-derived materials: refer to the FDA advisory or call 1-888-INFO-FDA. See below (discussion on pigs' ears) for more details.
I had no idea.. I'll make sure I talk to my local pet store about it. they sell ears by the bucket load.. they are an awesome store who arent just in it for the money. They sell all types health products for pets..
