Adventure XI is finally finished! Started in early Dec2012, it took nearly 23 months.

TC: As I mentioned the previous time he started this tourney, the primary problem I see (aside from the fact that it is obnoxious to check the 10% for each game) is that most of the people in the top 10% are not playing anymore or not since a long time. That way, only 1% really are effectively eligible.

SL-Mark: If you're in the top 10% by BKR for any of the listed games, then you can play in any of the tournaments. So you could be top in Grasshopper, but bottom 1% in BG and still enter the BG tourney.

They're great tourneys. I used to love playing them when I was a more active Rook.

SL-Mark: I am also puzzled by that. Maybe I am wrong?

He does have a time control that punishes slow players though. It is a red dot time control of 3 days with a bonus of 3 hours per move made, with a limit of 10 days. Woe to anyone who lets his time left roll down to a low number, then moves, then logs out for the night!

happyjuggler0: Thanks. If BKR only, then I don't understand why he equates players who have a high BKR with speed. This is just not the case and therefore we should be afraid of endless games!

SL-Mark: It's not speed, it is BKR. I don't know if he goes by active players or inactive players to determine the top 10% cutoff.

I personally think he should just have a rating cutoff where you can't even sign up if your BKR is too low. That way no one gets booted from the tournament just before it begins.

TC: Do you mean :
a) the 10% in move speed, or
b) the 10% in BKR?

If a) then how do I know if I am in this top 10%?
If b) then all the people that have already signed up for the Backgammon tournament are ineligible to play. (564 active backgammon players * 10% = player 56 who has a BKR of 2310). So if I don't have a BKR > 2310, then are you saying I can't play?

Tournament type: one match for each two players
Maximum number of players per section: 20
Final match type for two players section: 5 points match with doubling cube
Time control: Time: 3 days, Bonus: 3hours, Limit: 10 days, no days off (red signed)

(That means after beginning you have 3 days (72 hours) for your first move. Per your another move, you'll have 3 hours bonus for your other move time. 10 days is limit time for the opponents, after the move of other side.)

vstjrt: Maybe he just doesn't know how to play and is an experiential learner, learning as the game progresses. Over time, a player will learn when they are beat, some will resign and some hold on hope for the win by time out.
I for one know nothing about the game so I would end up playing until it was obvious to me (a beginner) that I was beat. Most experienced players know when a game is won long before the novice, and it doesn't really matter what the game type is.

TC: No offense meant, of course, and it is a lot of work for the organizer of the tournament to take care of just before the tournament starts. The 10% stroke me as an oddity and, of course, there is the issue with the inactive top players :).

Perhaps "unfriendly announcement" was a wrong term. As I said, no offense meant.

vstjrt: The fastest way to end a game is to resign.
If you think you are the one winning, just keep passing.
Each stone he places, deprives him of winning space.
Every player is entitled to playing the game to the end. I would hardly call this "stubbornness". We are humans and humans make mistakes.
