So, if a pawn does not have enough room to start the 6 games for example, will the system start the games it can for the pawn? For example will it start 4 games and wait until he can play the other two?

Temo: Help!! New subject.
I have a tournament with 12 players. It should start with 3 groups of 4.
My questions is for the pawns will it only start one game per player in the group or start both games as black and white.

I have set the minimum to 4, maximum to 5 with the 2 game option.

I don't want to start it if some of the pawns won't be able to start the tournament.

Thanks for the help.

Temo: Re:Fellowship and Teams
Our team on gameknot has grown to 16 people 4 of whom are paid members. The others are limited to a certain amount of games. As it is here paid subscribers do have more benefits. The point I suppose is you have to have a certain amount of stuff for non subscribers or there just isn't a large enough pool of players to enjoy the activities of which are offered to paid membership. The Secret Hiding Place Fellowship consist of myself and one other person. Kind of tough to put a team together with just two people.
Kind of like being the only member of a club and seeing the other member every tuesday night. Pretty soon the club isn't a club because one or the other person goes and finds a club where there is more intereaction.
Doesn't really matter to me. When it gets to the point where I can not participate and have tournaments with members of the 65thsquare club here, then I will spend my chess money where I can. Pretty simple I think LOL.

Temo: Re: First Fellowship Team Tournament!
One of the ways to perk intereste in Fellowships is by allowing non-paying subscribers to join. On gameknot they allow so many non-subscribers to be on your team. Fellowships and team play is great but if only a couple people belong then the option is of little value. I am not saying the system should allow every nonsubscriber to join a fellowship, I am saying a fellowship should have the option of having a few nonsubscribers. Just an idea...

The tournament is set to start 9-22-03, it looks like everyone that is interested has joined. I will give it a few more days and then close it.

Within the valley of mist 9 have tread. Those of faint heart stayed behind, those fearing no evil walked into the mist finding the path back closed off, they must proceed. The smell of water is heavy, the air of gloom strong and those that have arrived now wonder if their lives is worth the treasure that may be found.

With the magic in the air The valley that will close on the twenty second day of September in the two thousand and third year of our Lord may experience a time factor of less time. Those that travel the path to destruction will find them sub divided and sent on separate paths, yet the paths will lead the to final resting place.

At the final resting place where only the strongest will survive, the law of the jungle in effect will write upon their hearts the toil, troubles and tribulations that will be their in search of the treasure.

If you wish to enter the valley of gloom, send a message by the wind to unacanta, keeper of the valley. He will issue a pass into the valley.

Ride the winds by the one eyed devil to this place to see what will befall you

Thanks, I wasn't sure how it would set the sections up. I guess you didn't know how the players would be assigned per section?

Temo: Help!!
I have the following limits in a invite only tournament.
Minimum number of players: 4
Maximum number of players: unlimited
Maximum number of players per section: 5

Currently there are 6 people signed.
What happens to the odd number if the minimum of 4 is not met for two sections?
Also how does the tourney-bot sort who plays in what section? Is it by rating or some other form of black magic??? LOL

Here is the tourney addy:

Temo: Thematic Tournament
I want to hold a thematic tournament and was considering using the Screen Chess option. I found out it requires all the pieces be placed on the boad. In the first 7 to 10 moves pawns or other pieces can be removed. Anyone have any ideas?

I know a list of moves can be given and required to all players to follow, but that can be clumsy. If one player makes an incorrect move then the Theme is wrong and mess up. You then have a game where players have to abanded the game which can be sticky in tournament play where the tourney bot controls the issuing of games.

Something to ask Fencer about I guess unless there is an idea using what we currently have.

For example if a Thematic Tournament was selected then the ECO would be copied into the games as they were generated. LOL, sounds easy to say, programming it is much tougher.

Yea!!! Fencer has added the "2) Private tournaments - only players invited by the tournament creator can sign up." option. It will keep my money being spent here!!! Good job and thanks :P

Do you have a time table when you will have the private tournament up and running?
The reason is we are getting a new tournament ready on the 65thsquare and would like to use the server here to run it.

Thanks

Fellowships can only be joined by paying members, if you offer a tournament sponsered through a fellow ship, then players will have to not only pay the $50.00 entrance fee but also buy membership here.

In my humble opinion, the fellowship is for paying members. If a person starts a fellowship, they should be able to invite anyone including pawns. I am not sure how management feels here, but if a person pays for the membership one of the perks is being able to establish fellowships. What good is a fellowship if the a person can not invite those he wants to join?
I can understand a limit on pawns to not join any fellowship, but if they are invited by a paying member then the system should allow it. Just a thought.

I for one am all for being able to set up a tournament which features invites only. There are times you want to play certain people or perhaps from a club or something. It would be very helpful.

I guess I did understand the TD needed to start the tournament. I was concerned about starting it before the assigned sign up date.

Since the required number for the minium players is met and it looks as if all players can participate, I assumed I could start the tourament with out it being canceled for some silly reason on the tourey bot.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your help Kevin. Just to make sure I have things clear here.
The tournament now has 4 people, 3 are unrated. Of the three one has 11 games started, once the tourney starts he will have a total 19 games stared. If I close the tournament early will all the games start? Currently none will exceed the 20 game max allowed to pawns.
I would think the tourney bot would recognize the minum number of players required to start and would start the tournament.
Strange indeed.

So what do you do if the tourney doesn't start because of someone not qualifying? Can you just get another player, or do you have to start over with a new tournament?

Temo: A question?
I read the following:
Please don't forget that you cannot close the tournament for sign-ups before the date and time specified at the Last term to sign up field passes. After this action is performed, all tournaments with less than defined minimum number of players will be deleted.

Does this mean if a tournament has a minimum of 4 people, only 3 sign up, then the tournament is deleted? The statement "After this action is performed, all tournaments with less than defined minimum number of players will be
deleted." leads me to believe all tournaments with a minimum amount of players will be deleted? A more clear explanation of the statements would helpl

Thanks

Temo: Link to define tournaments
I have have checked all the places I could think to find informaiton on how to define a tournament. Help, FAQ, Touraments, My Tournaments does not show a link. Doesn't seem that only paid memebers are allowed to do so.
Thanks, I am sure the link to define a tournament is in a very logical spot??
