In the old days the white used to start in every game. Then, to make things right, the rules were adjusted to some of the games, and black or red or whatever starts some of the games now. When you start a new game, on the New Game page and you choose the color, it clearly states which color goes first, so you can choose. But on the Waiting Games list, no such info is present. So instead of you'll play as black / white, can there be an aditional signal that shows if I'll start the game or not? It's hard to remember the settings in 90+ games.
I suggest that inactive accounts be deleted after, say, a year of not being used. I understand if this is impossible for certain reasons though. I'm suggesting this because some people may want a username that exists on an inactive account, for example I'd like to change my username to MTC to be consistant with the username I have on most other websites, but that name is attached to this user, who has been inactive since 2003.
MadMonkey: yah i asked for this a while back also. The feature is not the easiest to find. Maybe fencer could make it a little easier to find say have it always visible with the note box and also have it in the settings page.
MadMonkey: I've just rechecked. On the top of your Notes box, tehre's an option to move it to the top or to the bottom of the board. Just click it. It's been like that for ages now :)
I think this has been asked before, and maybe still on your list Fencer. Please could we have the Note box in games show up at the top of the page IF a note has been made, or at least an option in Settings to move it there like the other options we have. It comes in handy when you play alot of games and may lose track of your train of thought. Sometimes i get back to a game i end up making a totaly different move to the one i was thinking about
Temo: Re: Sign up for all tournaments of this group
pedrored: I would like a "I have no time any more" button. It should remove me from every team I have signed up with, every tornament, pond, and ladder that I have signed up for but is not currently running. Would be good for when you sign up for a whole bunch of tournaments and all of a sudden find yourself with 1000 games and 63 tornaments still on there way.
Temo: Re: Sign up for all tournaments of this group
For me, it is rare I would want to sign up for ALL the games in a tournament. But there are times I do want to sign up for a few of them.. How about a check box next to each game listed in the tournament, with a box at the bottom also saying, "Sign up for all checked games"?
LOL.. everytime you add something Fencer, we want something extra!
Change Description in fellowship edit box - any chance on getting these input boxes to be the same as the discussion board boxes - where we can "Change message area size" to see more and type things in?
When one offers a draw, the message to the opponent comes a fair way BELOW the game board; could it not come above, please. I have often had opponents not accepting the draw offer, clearly because they had not seen the message.
Why is it that the number of messages that display at a time in the message box is controlled by a setting set on a discussion board page? At least I didn't find anywhere else to change it. I noticed it also controls how many bugs display in the bug tracker.
Can't these be separate settings (preferrable) or at least be settable in those pages as well?
RagingSeas: that sounds like a great idea, and how about maybe being able to view an opponents win/loss record or ratio in the same request?...much like the 'projected BKR rating change' for a win/tie/loss...
Not sure how useful it would be to some, but how about the ability to have a formula to filter out invitation requests? By rating perhaps or game type?
Fencer: Yes, because at the moment, it reaches the person with the first move: it is just funny/odd that I get my own message if I am the one in the first move! ;-)
Is it possible to have the Ataxx/Assimilation games have, for example, red and blue pieces instead of black and white? If you play both those games and Lines of Action, it's quite confusing...
I keep forgetting to suggest this, but when one accepts a game invitation and writes a message to the inviting player, that message never reaches the invitee! (or nobody has ever replied to my invitations with a message!). My suggestion would then be that if one replies with a message to an invitation, either the invitee gets also a message saying "your invitation was accepted with the following message..." or that that message is automatically added to the history of messages of the current game (like a message on move zero :-) )
Fencer: Do you think we could have EITHER a tick box in the message that contains a tournament game Win or Loss, that when ticked will delete the message after we click on the Tournament link OR a select button saying 'Delete & goto Tournament'.
Save keep having to go back to delete the message once we have read/used it.
Mr. Shumway: I think the idea is good, but it would probably be a little difficult for the "creator" to come up with those probabilities. If they are automatically made by a poll, that would make it easier. I am guessing it would be a lot of implementing to do on Fencers part though :(
My suggestion to make the random games more interesting, is that when you create say a "five match random game", that you actually do get five times a different game. It would probably "ruin" the statistics department, but a special slot could be opened just for "random games"... or just make random-games not affect BKR.
In a fellowship I am in the idea came up to create a random tournament with games that the members would want to play. So everybody should suggest a game which would be included. In this fs more people would like to play Hyper Backgammon or Backgammon than Spider Linetris for example. But if 5 people vote for HB and one for SL, the propabilities for each would be even, so 4 people would choose a game that they don't favor (for not loosing their votes). Now it would be a nice feature if one could edit the propability for each game type in a random games tournament, so that in this example the chances of playing HB in a certain game would be five times higher than to play SL. This could be done by assigning a value to each game type, which would be defaulted to 1. If you want to create a standard r.g.t. you simply let it as it is, but you'd have the choice to change the values as you like. There could even be poll tournaments where every member that signed up could vote for a game type that would get a higher propability, so the distribution of games somehow reflected the preferences of the players.
I recently noticed the stairs option today and thought it would be really neat if it had a random game option; like many of the tournaments. Playing a variety of games (why my win to loss ratio is like 1/3) is one of the main reasons i came to brainking in the first place and if i had to only choose one stair; then it'd me really hard to choose :) !
mancala, also called wari(oware) can be played at kurnik.org live, so you can test it, also at ludoteka.com (no ratings). afaik it is also played at mind olympic games in Czech Republic
2. They can only move one square per turn (diagonal OK)
3. They use "sonar" to detect enemy ships. They can't pin point them. Just detect that there is one or more ships above them (in the 3x3 square grid with the sub in the middle). As you move the sub around, you could deduce an enemy's ship location.
4. You get all of your shots plus one submarine move per turn.
I played this game in Richard's Pbem server These are the rules, with a difference in the jump mmovements. Infact you have to jump with the "horse move" too. For example from A1 you can jump also in B3 and C2
Object of the Game The object of the game is to have the majority of your colour discs on the board at the end of the game. A Minute To Learn Black places two black discs and White places two white discs as shown in Figure 1. The game always begins with this setup.
A B C D E F G 1 o . . . . . x 2 . . . . . . . 3 . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . . 5 . . . . . . . 6 . . . . . . . 7 x . . . . . o Figure 1
A move consists of either a "growth" or a "jump". A growth is when you select one of your pieces and place a new piece in an empty adjacent space, including diagonally. A jump is when you select one of your pieces and move it to an empty space that is two position away. This includes diagonals and "knights moves".
j j j j j j g g g j j g . g j g = valid "growth" destinations from the center j g g g j j = valid "jump" destinations form the center j j j j j
Once placed, any opponents pieces that are adjacent to the new piece (either through growth or jump) are flipped the to the moving player's colour.
If you are unable to move on your turn, you are skipped. There is a chance that your opponent may be forced to make a move that will let you move again.
Hi folks. I doubt this game will get as quick a response to getting on here as Ataxx, but I would like to see the Mancala type of games on here. You can find more information at Wikipedia.
