Please keep things positive. Best advise I believe is to try out different sites. Find what works well for you. If you don't like it, don't go back and try another site. Nothing says you only have to play on 1 site. At one time, I played on about 6 different turn-based game sites.

if anyone likes facebook like i do theres a very addictive but really good game to play on there called PACKRAT try it out you be addicted like me in hours
YourTurnMyTurn has a newer Rummy game (well around since January - but newer to me) that I'm in love with.
If you don't play on YourTurnMyTurn, you should go and make an account and start to play.
Turn based site like this - many games - some limits for free accounts but still very playable. (I use to have a paid account there but currently playing as a free player)
There are a lot of players on this site that used to play there. It is now up and running but not completely. As well as 2 player games, it has quite a few games there that can be tried out against a computer so is a good learning site.
I know Facebook is a Social Networking site and not a games site, but for those that play there hopefully would know of PackRat (probably the most addictive game on Earth)
A major update of PackRat is being released today sometime (about midday Texas time i think) and boy is it causing shock waves over there. Even with the main application itself off line at present the Discussion boards are going mad with anticipation.
Going to be a hectic evening for the players, and the code writers........................ just hope all works out there will be many thousands of unhappy people
Here's an interesting variant by the inventor of Racing Kings (Vernon Parton). The rules are described here: http://www.chessvariants.org/winning.dir/neutral-king.html
Basically, neither player has a king of their own, but there is a neutral king that may be moved by either player. The object of the game is to checkmate the Neutral King and prevent your opponent from doing so. I don't think there are ANY websites that have it! (Although there is a java applet at pathguy.com where you can play against a computer. But there's nowhere you can play against real opponents.) Brainking could have a world first!
This is the gaming site of Christian Freeling, the inventor of Grand Chess. The site offers many games, including classic games such as chess and go, as well as many unique games invented by Freeling himself. The main problem with this site at present is the lack of active users!! Finding opponents to actually play some of these interesting games seems to be a slim hope, a real pity as some of the games are offered nowhere else. Enthusiasts of chess variants would enjoy this site *hint hint* ;-)
On this site - Frog Finder is a great game - but even in my opinion, Frog Legs is missing something - it ends up being a very long drawn out game.
Over on YourTurnMyTurn.com & Jijbent.nl - they now have a Minesweeper game based on the Frog Legs concept, with some changes: (1) You don't see where your opponent guesses wrongly - so you can now guess without the fear of giving your opponent too much information. (2) Spaces which give no new information is automatically shown - so there is no more just making "dummy" shots so you don't reveal anything new (3) Slight scoring change - losing only 2 points for a guess - making it much better to try to guess.
YourTurnMyTurn.com = English language site Jijbent.nl = Dutch language site Brettspielnetz.de = German language site (game is not released there yet - might be with different rules)
Anyway, I suggest to go check it out - They don't have the number of games that this site does - but they are great sites with a nice selection of games
.... But they also have a GREAT Rummy based game - very fun also. I go by coan.net over there - feel free to invite me to either Rummy or Minesweeper game there.
If you like online games and you have time, have a look at Orc Games I've been playing there and there are some cool games that you can play or share there.
Admins promise a lot of new things coming up so stay tuned and have fun! ;)
Baked Alaskan: I've been playing for a few weeks on Facebook, and just started to play it on MySpace (just because I wanted a way to "start again" now that I know what I'm doing.)
Feel free to invite me to be part of your mafia if you want.
Fencer: NO - DON'T PLAY FENCER - It is way too addicting of a game, it will only start to take more and more of your time - inviting friends to grow your mafia to be able to attack more and such.... We need you here on BrainKing. Well others do, I'm too busy now playing Mafia Wars on both Facebook & MySpace.
