I have finished 4 books in a series by Alexander McCall Smith...about a lady detective agency in Africa. Have also finished Cane River by Lalita Tademy if anyone is interested.
Mousetrap: ohhhhhhhhh now i understand. do you have "garage sales" in your country? that is were people sell their belongings from there home. anyway that is usually a good place to find books, and our librarys here will have 'book' sales. on ebay and amazon you still have to pay for shipping.

amandalove: They are called car boot sales here and are held in designated places userally a field or a car park. Garage sales at home are not allowed here. It depends where it is from on e-bay. I bought a book publised in the USA cheaper in spite of pp and delivered within a week. Here they wanted 4 to 6 weeks delivery time and their cut for ordering. I enjoy the library sales, there is one tomorrow uptown and I,ll be there lol! I think Amazon is expensive. There is a site called Play.com which sells nearly everything including books and pp is free here I donno if it would be free in the USA.
Hi - believe it or not, my first time stopping by, even tho I'm an avid reader. For those of you who read the original Stephen King novel "The Stand" way back when...Have any of you read the "uncut" version done in the 1990's? I'm in the midst of it now and loving the story all over again
I have read everything Stephen King has ever written Not that I can quote from them or remember every single story But I love his writings First time I read The Stand I had just moved to NYC and the scene in the tunnel under the river was frightfully real to me. I could really visualize it having been in those places. Every book he writes is special to me...He is one person I would love to sit down and have a talk with Are you telling me that the first edition of The Stand was edited and I did not read the real thing?
ajtgirl: Yes, yes, yes...blew me away...I've always told my elder son he should read "The Stand" someday when he found the time (he doesn't have much) & when he bought it home from the library last month, to my surprize it was different! The first edition published in 1978 was edited by Stephen King due to the publishers insistence that it was too long, so it was cut some 500 pages (he had the choice to do it himself or let the publisher do it, so he did, thank goodness)...The "complete and uncut edition" was done in 1991 & even tho I'm only a quarter of the way into it, it's different, really different, much more indepth, the way King intended it to be from the get-go, I guess.....I'm in my glory right now, if I could not go to work I'd read it from start to finish.....I also LOVE Stephen King, a very, very talented writer
Also, just so you know, Stephen King and comedic author Dave Barry are very good friends, Dave talks about King all throughout his non-fiction books and they are in a band together (I'm racking my brain trying to remember the name of the group, it'll come to me and I'll get back)
someone recommended to me not long ago, can't remember the author or title, but it is definately newer, I believe it's about abuse of some sort or another, the author is definately a woman, and it has an odd sort of title....Ring a bell with anyone? I'm stumped...
if so, ive got a couple on that list, ive got tons of books tucked in boxes in various closets, might require some digging, but i do know pretty much the ones i have. so if anyone is interested, ill send it to ya
Antje:Those are books that are available. Click on a title and there will be an asterisk by the person that has the book. If you are interested in any that are posted, we can add your name there and it will be mailed to you. We all love to share books!
Hi everyone I certainly hope we get back into book trading now that winter is upon us I have several new books to add to the mix:
The Secret History by Donna Tartt Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory A Wedding In December by Anita Shreve
Some of these are a little dog eared and wrinkled from getting damp while I read them in the pool. LOL More to come
wooohooo, count me in, ive got a huge selection.. anyone keeping a running list? i can make a list and send it in to whoever.. let me know. this will be fun.
Antje: I have read the first 4 books on the request list and they are all very good! just let us know if there is any you want to read. I just purchased Mary Mary by James Patterson and the new Patricia Cornwell book Predator. Soon as I read those, they will be available. since we all have a long list, maybe we should make lists of books we have and email the list to people that are interested. either that or I might create a fellowship just for our book crowd! tell me what you all think!!
Dolittle: im sure all the avid readers like us have tons of books, we probably need a way to catalog them, but that will be tedious i imagine. i dont know if a fellowship is a good idea, or just here? maybe it will be a good idea.. i sure am up for contributing my collection, and offering up any books anyone wants to read. my daughter Jenn is even a bigger reader than me, she'll finish a novel in one day!!! so together, we are definately weighing our house down with the books!
Hi Do What happenend to Eriisa? Did she hand her duties off to yo?. Let's just promote this site, if possible, by word of mouth, and maybe we'll get more visitors and more interest. Are you able to add the books I have in the list of books available? And perhaps it should be titled differently Instead of Book Circle Request List it could be Book Circle Library List, which implies that these books are available and can be "checked out"
ajtgirl: Eriisa is working from home and has been extremely busy..they sell on Ebay also. She didn't hand her duties to me, in fact I can't do the list so we need to get somebody that can. I agree that we need a better list and with Antje's help on here, we should have loads of books available. I have tried to generate more interest in this board and reading but it just hasn't happened yet. I do appreciate any help that you girls can give.
Hrqls:could you change the name from Book Circle Request List to maybe just Library List. also ajtgirl posted 4 books that are available but not on the list...could you post them please. don't know why I can't do those things but that's ok...know you have been busy. If Antje can do that and she is willing, could you make her a co-mod? Thanks for your help!
Temo: Re: Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
Hrqls:
Thanks so much I have read all of these novels and would love to share them with anyone People new here need to know that we pm our addresses to each other when a book is requested No one's address becomes public knowledge This is an honor system and it has worked very well for over a year now
Also The two novels by Gregory Maguire are separate:
Wicked
Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
One is based upon the Wizard of Oz (made into a Broadway Play) The other is based upon the Cinderella story
Temo: Re: Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
ajtgirl:Hi aj, thought you would be interested to know that Antje and I compiled some book list today. She did 50 and so did I.. actually we had a race to see which one could do that quicker..she won by 7 minutes. Anyway, if you would like to have those list, we can email them to you. Don't have room to post them all here. Figured that was the best way to do it! Happy reading!!!
Temo: Re: Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire
ajtgirl:Ok, I will try to send you my list and Antje's also. She and I are trying to figure a way to make all the lists more accessible..do you have any ideas on that. If you have lots of books, we could use your list also!

Listing your books in our library of available books for check out means that anyone who wishes to read any one of your books simply needs to PM you here at this site and you will send it to them for free. In return I think they should add a book on the library list Ben Franklin did this We can improve on his idea.
