Storms kill one as more bad weather forecast Saturday December 30, 02:13 PM

LONDON (Reuters) - High winds and heavy rain battered parts of Britain overnight and a woman died when a tree was blown onto a caravan in Staffordshire.

Forecasters on Saturday predicted more stormy weather after a short period during the day when the wind and rain will ease off.

With gusts of up to 80 mph expected overnight and into Sunday it is possible some outdoor New Year's Eve celebrations, such as firework displays, will have to be cancelled on safety grounds.
The dead woman, who was 18, was killed when a large tree fell on a caravan at a site in Cheadle, police said.

Two other occupants of the caravan, a man and a woman who were both 19, were not hurt when the tree crashed to the ground shortly after 5.00 a.m.

The Met Office said strong winds will come in two waves. The first on Saturday afternoon and evening will particularly affect parts of eastern and southeast England as winds gust up to 80mph in places.

"The second period of strong winds will come during New Year's Eve," the Met Office's Web site said.

Parts of southern Scotland, northern England and Wales and Northern Ireland will be the most severely affected, casting doubt on the traditional Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh.

In 2003 bad weather forced the cancellation of many celebrations. Up to 100,000 people who had gathered in the Scottish capital were disappointed when the celebrations were called off just one hour before midnight on New Year's Eve.

The Highways Agency has warned drivers to take extra care because of the weather. Rain and spray could reduce visibility and increase stopping distances by as much as 100 percent, it said.

"Motorcyclists and drivers of high-sided vehicles are asked to be especially vigilant," the agency said on its Web site

They both flower and grow fairly quickly and are easy to care for.

☼ajtgirl☼: i have a wall next to my house which the local yobs like to sit on every night so i thought if i could plant some kind of thorny bushes there it would solve the problem

"Snoopy": You need Thunderburgers, they are nice and thorny and will grow in shade, they take a while to grow but you can get em planted in Feb and with any luck the rain will help! They can grow a few feet high and they spread well too.

☼ajtgirl☼: I suggest digging a moat arround the house and planting it with Alligators. An English man,s/womans castle is their home!

a most excellent idea
Throw some ducks  and fishes in to feed the alligators...you could create an entire ecosystem
Mice from time to time, if necessary

☼ajtgirl☼: I already created enough mice and still donno how it happend but I could lead a cat or two to the water even if I could,nt make them drink.

LOl those cats will easilly breed faster than the alligators or the mice and you all will have a huge problem on your hands.

Foxy Lady: Well, just out of the spa....about 33degC here today but the humidity is atrocious.

Even Bear (dog) is reluctant to go outside in the heat, but have arranged for the Groomers to come in tomorrow and give him a SSSS&SS...about $40....but he will feel better getting rid of the long (about 2 inches only) hair.

BerniceC: Oh quiet Were freezing our butts off but no snow.Had some it lasted 2 days and it's gone.

Foxy Lady: please send snow.....never in my lifetime would I see snow here :(

Cats are smart enough not to jump into water even though they can swim, if necessary
They prefer rooting out little rodents in dark places because they can hear them and smell them. 
They have the patience of, well, cats, to wait for hours for their prey to come out of it's hidy-hole.

You are better off making friends of the alligator than to try to hide from a cat, my little mousy friend.  LOL

It was 70 here yesterday we had thunderstorms and tornado watches last night and its supposed to be 75 today..... I think someone forgot to tell mother nature that it is winter LOL

spicieangel: lol,. yes, it is quite scary isnt it. They have predicted over here, and dont ask me how they have worked it out, but they odnt reckon we will have snow over here now ntil 2011
