lamby ty for the links re day lily pics I love them
---
ok I have something to share with my tree huggin' flower lovin' buddies:
to those who think flowers are cool, here are the cold ones:
all these often grow very early in spring, coming up through the snow.
the 1st four I have seen live.
Rose: They are my favourite flowers! I love 'stargazer' lilies, their scent is wonderful! I usually have them in the house......beats any air freshener! :o)
Lamby: Thanks for the pics on day lilies. I planted 4 lily plants last year and only one set came up of tiger lilies. Imagine my surprise this summer when all 4 flowered and I have bright yellow one, peach coloured ones and bright reds along with the tigers.. I had no idea I bought a variety. They are gorgeous!
skipinnz: Im not Rose either LOLOL....but you only put them in the fridge if you live in the tropics as I do :) it lets them think they are asleep and they will sprout as soon as you put them in the ground. NZ (not the alps where there is snow) could be either in the fridge or in dampened sawdust/woodshavings :)
Foxy Lady:I know I'm not rose, bulbs usually just put in with sawdust or woodshavings and kept in a cool place is usually good enough. Tulips are the only bulbs I've heard of being put into the fridge
Thanks everyone...I'll dig them up and seperate them...the bulbs I've pulled out are HUGE- never seen anything so big- someone planted them and left them there unattended for at least 6-7 years.....I don't think they are tiger lillies- but those sound cool! I may have to get some of those...there's two kinds, both green, one set has really long green leaves, low to the ground, and the other ones (which I think are day lillies) are taller with leaves coming out of a tall stem...the flowers look about the same...and the flowers are huge too and bloom from the beginning of spring right through the end of the fall..they are pretty flowers, the beds just a mess- way overgrown...thanks for all the help everyone!
And hang in there Bwild....we had a long draught and it was finally broken..if you read your music page a week or so back, I had some good ideas for draught-breaking!!! LOL
baddessi: Yes.. I would dig em up.. separate them.. and even replant the bulbs in fall.. Some wait till the Spring I suppose but, they start blooming earlier when they are preplanted.. :O) just whatever your preferences are..
sorry so long to answer.. I am here in the West so I am not online at 5 am as you all show to be.. Yawn.. hehehe my time that is! LOL
baddessi: orange w/black stripes? those would be tiger lillies.
this fall you can dig them up and seperate the bulbs.share them with your friends and neighbors, and plant i the spring the ones you wish to keep.
you getting any rain down there? we are in a drought here.
bwildman: I know you're not- I was saying hi back at scarlet-
Anyone who can help me with lillies is greatly appreciated. I'm kinda a beginning gardener. There are two kinds in my gardens. Day lillies and er.....the other kind? I'll try to find out what they are..I just know that no one has touched them in years and they are HUGE! I'm off to work now, but I'll find out what they are and let you know when I get back.Have a good day
ScarletRose: hi- I need help- the house I moved into has lily garden on either side. They were planted years ago and neglected. those things are huge now. I wanted to just dig them out, but my husband seem to think they're great. So, being a beginner, I'm not sure what to do with them...My neighbor told me that they have to be dug up and seperated every year. Who knows about lillies- they are pretty, but they are out of control!!!!!
BerniceC: I got the ants from putting down sweets to get the bugs away from the grapevine lol.Yes in Fla they have red fire ants and they hurt when they bite.A 2 yr old fell into an anthill a few years ago and they lost her do to the bites.
Darn....cant find anything that says they will eat you if you stand still long enough hehehehe....but they do have a nasty bite...so perhaps i could be wrong :(...OH well try the sugar filled container FOXY and good luck :)
We have meat ants in Aussie...If you stand still long enough they will eat ya. TRUE....will look up a link for all
My advice is attract them to something else...put down a container and fill it with sugar....they will like that better than your grape vine let me tell ya :)
Foxy Lady: r u joking?ants are cool, but they usually are not a big problem in the garden.do more good than harm.but if you really want to discourage them rather than murdererered them:
Turn ants away from your home by locating the place of entry and squeezing a lemon onto it. Then leave the peel. Ants will also retreat from lines of talcum powder, chalk, damp coffee grounds, bone meal, charcoal dust and cayenne pepper.

PS
Q : What do you get when you cross a cheetah with french fries?
A : FAST FOOD!
Foxy Lady: Oh dear! All these creepy crawlies just love you! :oD Im honestly not laughing at your problem, its the way you tell it, it made me chuckle! Right Im going to look up ants now on google lol
Rose: thats great, sounds like good stuff! I much prefer enviro friendly stuff.....I try & avoid chemicals in every situation (not just gardening) if possible
Lamby: syrupy orange..clever idea that...if the bugs wont leave stuff alone..divert their attention to something else.
I have to be careful playing backgammon with ScarletRose..she tries to be cute & disctract me from the game..lol
Lamby: kool idea for sure.. FYI for all Neem Oil is totally 100% enviro friendly in that it is not toxic, doesnt hurt birds, animals or people.. Bugs cant stand it.. Its from the Asian Neem tree.
