And then there is the fact that I bet half if not more of motoracing is sponsered by tobacco. So they would start losing revenue due to main events such as F1 and Rallying would decide to bypass the UK. And the UK is the centre of motorsport for alot of the series's. So it would also cause job losses etc etc. The roll on effect would be ridiculous.
The costs of motorsport are spiralling and becoming harde and harder for the teams to find big sponsors. Its unfortunate .
Something similar happened back in the 70s. At the Australian Grand Prix one of the cars had the brand 'Durex' written all over it so to keep up public standards the tv director decided that no camera shots of the car would be broadcast. Unfortunately, that particular car was in the lead for most of the race and, I believe, eventually won it!
That's what gets me about the British government though. It stops tobacco advertising and is now talking of banning smoking in public places but the Goverment makes a fortune from the taxes imposed on both tobacco and alcohol.
The last few years, Britian has had a ban on tobacco advertising on racing cars etc like F1. so they tobacco is removed during this races (some othet European circuits are similar) Now the government is thinking of banning it from tv all together.
So say there is a F1 race in China, where they are allowed tobacco advertising...they would ban the race from being shown on UK tv.
Sorry Steve for mis-interpeting your last post. I thought you might be looking for a part but I know know differently. You "streetrod" people are in a slighly different class than hubby's "early auto" people. I give almost anything to have my first car back....1962 Chevy Impala Converible....the best car I ever owned!!!!
.........put back into the car BUT
I broke a lug off the crankshaft pully that drives the cam belt :o( It is a lug thats used for the crankshaft timing sensor :o( So have to source a pully now
and especially thru the National Franklin Trek held every year in NY....Alot Of time, effort and 3 years in the process made this come about. Any Franklin automobile driver stands in line waiting to drive the car......talk them after!!!!
A rebuilt original 1928 Franklin engine. You can't tell the difference from looking at the engine when the hood is up. All the mechanics took place consealed to the public eye.
A 1928 Franklin Boattail Roadster which blew 2 rods and now has the engine "inserts" to do 90 on a highway. Needless to speak, the car hasn't been pushed that far, but it will surely pass out any road meat on the highway today going regular speeds. It's hillarious to watch the looks on people's faces when an "ole clunker" can out do them from a stoplight!
perhaps you could tell us something we dont know?
we are trying to keep this a friendly board.
I've been wrenching on cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and heavy machinery for 30 years.I know all about "getting grease under my fingernails".
Haven't you people heard of a Franklin? The air-cooled engine was a favorite of Lindbergh! Also, if most of you people are into rebuilding cars, the first thing you learn to do is engine work...like grease under your thumbs!
The engine I will be using has stronger internals and closed deck block etc that reduces bore flex etc. Hence hopefully the pistons and rings will stay intact this time
yeah all insured. Its a 500 mile round trip (not nice on UK roads, if this one isnt here by midday thursday, Ill be taking a trip upto middlesborough to get one from him. Its only around £80 to hire a van and diesel for the trip
I'm in the process of rebuilding a 900cc tigershark pwc engine. What a pain in the hiny! This thing gulped 2 sets of reeds, and must have ingested 3 gallons of water!
I keep telling folks..."2 things you cant get wet...boats,and boat mechanics" ;-)
The courier told the supplier he didnt put a label on it LMAO
I take it that 2 scoob engines have just been sold off the back of a lorry sort of thing.
The supplier laid a bit of abuse into the guy (same one picked up each time) and has put 4 labels onto this one and told him to lose this one would not be too clever LOL
J. Frank Duryea was a neighbor of my husband's growing up down at the Connecticut shoreline. He helped my husband purchase one of formerly owned 1903 Steven's Duryea which we re-furbished completely. The next Steven's Duryea we re-did was for J. Frank's Grandson.....he owns a 1904.
GOt to get to my photo albums of cars I own and cars I've done for customers Being a webtv user, I guess I best publish a web page. Want my bear on my breezeway with his hand on my window pictures also?????
I'm from the USA and I very well know about the first auto races in this country.....THE VANDERCUP RACE Held on Long Island NY. I also know about the first car in the USA which ran and won the first country race.....NOT A FORD like everyone thinks, but a STEVENS DURYEA.....ALSO, the first car in the USA and NOT THE FIRST ASSEMBLY LINE CAR MANUFACTURED....which is the Ford Motor Car. Anyone heard of the HERSHEY, PA CAR MEET....I upholster early cars and have had many first prize Hershey winners.
