nodnarbo:Strange. I've just noticed it in the last few weeks. Scarlet has the problem X2 and you don't at all. Maybe I'll put it in the bug fix but it may only apply to isolated users so not to sure about that. It doesn't effect anything it's just annoying. (my wife says the same about me sometimes! )
Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me. On my Favourite boards list, the final board is listed twice. Like this:
Debate Club BrainKing.com Debate Club - Religion Debate Club-Politics Field of Dreams General Chat My 2nd Fellowship Poker Politics Tournaments Tournaments
When I remove the tourney board, politics is listed twice. The second link takes me to the Discussion boards.
Fencer, can we please have a policy of one set of vacation days per year and that's it? Time controls are part of the game and should be followed. Vacation days allow for an exception to the time controls and it's unreasonable to allow for more than one set of vacation days per year. Please?
Asunto: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Hrqls: Good points and in the end, I can live and be happy with whatever the policy is. It really doesn't negatively affect me anymore as it once did.
I did have one thought after reading your previous posts. If someone was having serious problems with their ISP or if they were long term hospitalized, I see no reason not to place a temporary adjounment to their games (for a limited amount of time) without the bother of having to buy more vacation time. Seems to me these types of situations would be few and far between. I know that if my ISP went down, I'd have multiple options to connect and send a message to Fencer. And if hospitalized, same thing. Plus, many people simply use their comptuters from their hospital bed. Exceptions like the ones you bring up are good ones. But I suspect that too often the vacation days are used as time out insurance. And if a person uses them that way, then when they truly need them (for real emergencies), and they have none left, no one is to blame but themselves. I suspect this would most often be the case.
Asunto: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
alanback: Excellent point. I just lost 800 US dollars becasue of a flight cancellation. Fortunately, I can use the flights in the future (but only for up to 1 year). Otherwise the entire amount is lost. And the cancellation? Due to an illness. Life.
Asunto: Re: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
Hrqls: All good reasons. All the more reason to use the days you have properly. To use them as vacations and emergencies is good. To use them to not time out on games because one has so many games, not good. Of course I go with the rules of the site. I just don't favor anyone getting any additional days for any reason.
Asunto: There are genuine cases where people get ill and end up in hospital.
(V):That's life Jules. No exceptions. No pity cases. Part of the games are the time constraints. If you can't meet them, you time out. I've played over the board tournaments for years and that's a huge part of the game. You don't get extra time because you don't feel well. Nuf with the excuses. You get so many vacation days a year so use them wisely.
(V): No one is being punished Jules. You get X number of vacation days a year. Use them wisely. If you have problems and need more, too bad for you. Stop playing so many games. I don't feel sorry for people who time out in games when they are given enough vacation days a year. It's unfair to other players when people get more days. You get what you get and that's it.
Fencer:Only once in a while are things slow for me. Mostly they are very fast. So fast that I have to revert back to dial up just to keep up! ;) j/k
I'll say this. I use Explorer when I'm at work and that browser is horrible on BK. Firefox is great and people who are having trouble but insist on using Explorer are missing out. Firefox is the way to go. That is the FIRST thing folks should do. Chrome is fast too but I prefer FireFox.
Asunto: Re: If you renew a membership, you get only 10 additional vacation days. (10 days max - no matter if you renew 1 or 20 memberships)
Snoopy: The whole idea is to eliminate any potential for abuse. It has to apply to everyone fairly. Otherwise we have to judge the motives of others and no one can do that fairly. 45 days should be enough time for yearly vacations.
Asunto: If you renew a membership, you get only 10 additional vacation days. (10 days max - no matter if you renew 1 or 20 memberships)
coan.net: I could live with this as well. That would equal 45 days which is what a black rook gets. I also would add no "sharing" or "giving away" days etc. Treat vacation days like money in a bank account. when it's gone, it's gone. (until next payday which is a year away!) ;)
Carl: It isn't about how someone spend their money. I agree with you that's no one's business. I am saying that we should have a limit on the number of vacation days anyone can have/use during a calendar year. Not just this one player, but everyone. My personal preference is you get your 35 at the beginning of the year, and when they are gone, they are gone. No more. If you can't manage 35 vacation days per year, then play fewer games. If you choose to play that many games, and you run out of vacation games, too bad. That's the way it goes.

anybody :) : There should be an improved vacation policy exactly because it's a game site. People (other paying members of which outnumber this one abuser) expect opponents to make reasonable efforts to make timely moves. When someone is allowed to purchase another membership (for themself or another member) and benefit by getting 35 more days of vacation time, that is a recipe for abuse.
It's a turn based game site. And people expect their opponents to take their turn in games. -- (most) People don't want to wait weeks for an opponent to make a single move. And if additional vacation days are allowed to be purchased, the abuser can simply allow the auto vacation days to protect them from a time out- over and over again.
Time outs are part of games. If people can't play their games under the the parameters of the time controls, then once their initial vacation days are gone, that should be it for the year.
It may very well be true that "he" isn't breaking any written rule. But he is abusing the system here and people who know, understand that he enjoys holding up both games and tournaments, simply because he can. It's a glitch in the system that allows his abuse, so I hope Fencer will make some changes so that situation can be totally illimated. ;)
Asunto: Re: did anyone else get this silly message in thier mailbox?
Bernice and ScarletRose: Ratts! And I thought I'd be the only one! I guess I'm not so special after all. Thought it might be a certain someone from my past.
