Personally, I think any topic that is currently mentioned in "Server News" is appropriate for this board.

Tuesday: my advice...be yourself= can't go wrong there!

I think the point is that this board is supposed to be about Brainking and it's features.
That chat and snowball fights are better on the Members board or GC...

Theres never a good time to call the board back to normality, but when respects have been made and the subject has moved on (with a few posts questioning their place here now) it seems as good a time as any.

Stevie: Because here is where the parade has been taking place. This is where the emotion is.

See if the topic and mood continues over on GC. It might do but then it'll get mixed up with whatever was going on there already. If it doesn't that'll be because the move dampened it down to nothing. Either of those seem a bit of a shame to me, especially the second.

It's not a major deal, it's just that I wouldn't have been so quick to start hustling people away with "let's move the party next door".

playBunny: so quick?? im sure its been a week hasnt it? Im sure that has been near a week.
Most other site relevant topics get shoved over to APPROPRIATE boards within a day or 2.

Im sure we have given extra time this time for good reasons.. but the site is also meant to move on.

I come to this board to hear about the site. and all I see now is red numbers that mean not alot. Its coming to the point that its not worth coming here to hear about the site,,, because it wont be about the site. Im sure I am not the only one

So lets just let it go.

If you scroll down to panda's beautiful message, she asked that we try to get back to normal.
I think we should respect her wishes.
That's all I meant.

unfortunately there is never really ever a flow on these boards.. everyone is shushed immediately if they so much as steer off topic.. Can anyone tell me a verbal conversation which actually stays on topic..

other than one that is just a Hi.. how ya doing? and then dribble for 2 mins afterwards..

Anyway.. I moved the snowball fight over to general.. however.. the mood is now lost..

No the parade has been length but Panda's message heralding a transition to normality was only 5 or so hours ago.

Most other site relevant topics get shoved over to APPROPRIATE boards within a day or 2.

This is a special case. That sounds like a traffic-warder/park-keeper mentality.

Im sure we have given extra time this time for good reasons..

Yes

but the site is also meant to move on.

Ideally in a natural unforced way with patience being exercised by those who make the transition more quickly.

I come to this board to hear about the site. and all I see now is red numbers that mean not alot.

I would suggest that they mean you're being impatient.

Its coming to the point that its not worth coming here to hear about the site,,, because it wont be about the site. Im sure I am not the only one

I would suggest that they are being impatient too.

Can't we just agree to disagree and try to get back to normal?

There have been two periods of time in which the site was totally inaccessible . . . has anyone else experienced that? When I clicked on a BrainKing link the browser would simply return to the page it was on before the click.

I guess this server will never work reliably as long as the socalled webmaster is mainly busy with chatting and playing all the time. Barely made it to avoid timeouts, to think before moving a luxury thus.

And now they are tuesday and wednesday, no timeout again!

Asunto: General Chat discussion board. Moderation in General
The moderators there are deleting posts without regard to the effort going into typing and the posts do follow the discussion board's guidelines. Jason says he deleted them because we were told to not talk about a certain subject any more, but then he blanket deletes them all. I had posted a few about a completely different topic and they were deleted also.

Just what's the deal? We are told to take it to that board and then we are told to stifle once we move it there?

And let's take a look at how that General Chat board is moderated. There's six moderators! Any one of them can delete anything unilaterly. Just what kind of a system is this? Only one moderator should have that power, this rest should just have the power to hide. And not a blanket hide either, but of each individual post. Six moderators! Ludicrous! The other five had already left the posts and some had responded. Then ol' Jason wakes up, bores of the subject, justifies his action because of the aforementioned warning and deletes them all. This is not right! Why should anyone participate in a public discussion board if their writing can be summonarily deleted at the whim of any person? If there's going to be so many moderators then all of them should need to form a concensus before deleting posts.

Just because a moderator bores of a subject or doesn't want to hear about is no reason to delete. A moderator's job is to keep the discussion on topic, without profanity, or racial epitats. That board is general chat. This means all subjects are on topic. So why do we have to have so many moderators there? One is all you need. None of my posts had any rude words in it. Statements and questions, that's it. Someone doesn't like them, too bad. I didn't write anything personal except about my own feelings. Why should I have to suffer at the hands of a lazy person that can't even take a tenth of the time to send me a message about his concerns compared to the time it took me to compose what I posted? Inconsideration is what it is.

23. Febrero 2006, 19:24:43
harley
Mods normally do message the person if they delete a post, but general chat has been pretty busy today so the mod there didn't have time to message everyone.

The subject was asked not to be discussed there because its upsetting for many people. Once that was asked people should have stopped posting, and any posts made after the mod said 'stop' should be, and were, deleted. The effort going into typing them isn't really an issue for the mod, just how appropriate the post is.

Jason had a very difficult job today with some tough decisions. I realise many feel he made wrong choices but just as many think he was right. Its not as simple as right or wrong in this case.

23. Febrero 2006, 19:50:09
playBunny
harley: It's very simple in my view. Hiding and giving yourself time to deal with the people who write messages is far superior to a mass deleting of the messages and ignoring the people who wrote them. Bad decisions were most certainly made.

The effort that goes into a post doesn't matter? Please, feel free to spend a couple of hours on a post and then watch as it gets thrown away without you being given a copy, in fact without you even being informed. Would you then agree or would you be asking why you weren't simply put on hide?

How many of those people who think Jason was right actually had their work destroyed? Yes, work.
