Who said there will be some "all boards arch moderator"? Nothing like that is planned for the big bang date.
Antje: Yes. Yes. No. :-)

It's not impossible.

Asunto: Who said I am in a talkative mood?
It should be.

It is a normal behaviour of overloaded servers.
Do you want an absolutely reliable 24/7 service? Give us, for example, 30,000 EUR and you will have it :-) High-performance hardware costs some money, as well as their maintenance.

Nothing unusual is happening to the site at the moment.

The date of big bang is 5th June 2004.

I've commented this ridiculous issue many times and I'm not going to do it again.

I don't know what is wrong. It is under an investigation. Like many other things.

Asunto: SSL option?
Bernice's question brings up another topic, related to a security and privacy. The point is that your private data are mostly vulnerable not here on our servers but on the way from your computer to us. HTTP is not a secure protocol and it is possible [I don't say it's really happening but technically it is possible] to grab the data somewhere in the middle [proxy server, ISP] and read them.
Of course, there is a solution. Instead of insecure HTTP, a secure protocol [HTTPS] can be used. However, in order to do it in this way, we would need to buy a certificate which costs $199 a year [or more, I am not sure]. And somebody has to pay for it.
My question is - is it really necessary to support a secure protocol here? Would anybody use it? If so, what about to make it available only for users who pay some extra small fee as an addition to their normal membership fee?

Asunto: Re: FENCER
Bernice: There is a difference between what I can do and what I really do. Some things are obvious and it's not necessary to say them explicitely. For example, all BrainKing data must be stored somewhere, right? And since the data are stored on our servers and we [Liquid and me] are the administrators, we, of course, have the full access to all data, otherwise we wouldn't be able to fix them in case of problems. This is how all web services work.
But, hey, do you really think that I have so much free time to sneak through the whole database and read your private messages? First, I never do such things in any case, I respect privacy of our users [so does Liquid]. Second, I can name 10 more important things I have to do and I really have no time for anything else. Is that clear enough?

Nothing at this version happens.
What should happen? Delete the whole fellowship? Set "big boss" status to another fellowship member automatically? Mark the fellowship is "inactive" until new Big Boss candidate appears?

A fee for those who want to change profiles without confirmation process? ;-)

17. Mayo 2004, 14:27:34

Andersp: In BK 2.0, all profile changes [except password change] must be confirmed by an administrator. Approved or rejected.

About doubling cube - I would probably implement it as another "variant" of backgammon.

16. Mayo 2004, 23:34:34
Fencer
Not exactly. I've temporarily disabled all his posts. Right now I have no other choice how to deal with permanent troublemakers.

16. Mayo 2004, 08:16:00
Fencer
Yes, I know about this bug. The problem is that when I added Backgammon to this site, I was not aware of this rule. And then I was short of time and had to solve more serious problems.
Please confirm if I understand the algorhithm correctly:
1) When dice are rolled, all possible moves with the first die must be checked if a valid second [and third and fourth in case of double] one can be done as well.
2) If no such move is found, dice are auto-swapped and the process repeats.
3) If still no valid move using both dice is found, player is allowed to use only one die as a legal move.
Did I miss something? I must be absolutely sure before implementing it.

Now I can, with BK 2.0 :-)

We have another record from yesterday - more than 1,100,000 hits a day. I am seriously thinking about some banner ads [displayed to non-paying members, of course].

Asunto: Re: I am not arguing :o) I would just like to know
Of course I will let know if it happens. Nothing like that is officially valid until it's announced in Server News.

I have such set up in BK 1.0 as well. And it's only my problem.

Nobody is going to be another admin until I decide it's really necessary. Is that clear enough? End of discussion.

12. Mayo 2004, 17:54:06
Fencer
Don't be paranoid Stevie, you are not the only one who asks me questions. There are no other admins on BK, of course.

12. Mayo 2004, 17:32:15

Brian: There are other possibilities but I cannot reveal them, otherwise cheaters could bypass them much easier :-)

12. Mayo 2004, 17:31:07

It's already implemented. I can see on each Profile page all IP addresses that had been used with the account and a list of possible "clones".

12. Mayo 2004, 17:24:16
Fencer
Point 5) has been already applied several times.

12. Mayo 2004, 17:21:52
Fencer
Don't believe that. The same IP doesn't have to mean the same computer. For example, all employees of one company are shown with the same IP address because they share the same proxy server.
It will be much easier when IPv6 is widely adopted and used everywhere.

Asunto: Re: BKR don't mean a
I've just removed that user from charts. It's not the first case but it can be easily detected and resolved. I am currently working on a new way of automatic handling of such situations.

12. Mayo 2004, 09:09:51

It will be back soon. Final tests on BK 2.0 are passed. After a new tournament generator is done, it will be launched.

MM: Okay, I can add Monday as a site holiday.

Btw, speaking of PayPal, what do you think about this site?
