Fencer; may I suggest, though, that, when the site is approaching full capacity, Brain Pawns with over 3 months on the site, are 'retired' from that session. At least, paying members get to have uninterrupted access.
Of course there is a way. But it costs money and requires more machines to balance the load and separate the paying and non-paying users. I currently don't have this money. We must work with the equipment that we have.
Is that acceptable answer?
I, too, am fed up with not being able to get on (or, worse, being closed off). There must be a way of enabling paid-up members to have priority; otherwise, this site risks losing all its paid-up members entirely.
I mean I don't really have that big of a problem with the server being slow - Heck, a few months ago I predicted this would happen (that is when the server started growing too fast like IYT, it would have it's problems also.) Many people said "That's not going to happen", but I was right! :-)
But like I said, no big deal to me - I have games on IYT, DailyGammon & Pocket-Monkey to keep me busy while I wait for BrainKing.... I just don't like it when all my opponents have to wait so long for me to play sometimes. :-(
What country are you in, BBW? In the UK, mine is fine most of the day, until about 7pm. Then for a few hours its difficult to get on. If you can get that to your own time it might help!
Hopefully Fencer will have the new server soon, and these will be problems of the past. In the meantime we just have to be patient. Its worth the wait I think!
Actually I have a similar question - that is when is the "peak" and "low" times for the server.
It seems whenever I get on to play many games, I will at least once or twice get the server is too busy message. Maybe if I knew when the "low" time was, I could try to play more games during that time and stay away during the "peak" time.
Bernice, if Fencer did that then the friends list would be almost the same as the on-line opponents, and I for one have so many games going, if only a quarter of my opponents were online, it would take up a lot of my page to list them all as friends.
Its only one click to see who is online that you are playing. A lot of my friends here I dont have games going with all the time, and I think its nice to have them seperate. (Just my personal opinion!)
is there anyway you can automatically put all players that im playing with as FRIENDS ON LINE...
when you are playing it would be nice to see who your playing against without having to go to "WHO IS ON LINE".....just a thought
This website cause me lots of problems! It keeps freezing up on me and I have to re-boot my computer a lot... then I get a web page saying the server is maxed out. How can that be, when there's only 57 players online???
And I ask Why, too ?
Tony, there have been many discussions about this on many different boards. And there is a very mixed opinion about it. I try to respect the way people play (and finish!) a game. Just finish the game and try to avoid that player in future, posting insults about people who play to the end will benefit nobody. :o)
Kevin: I also want to thank Kevin since now I have more chances to play my sister (SueQ) and beat her (no matter what she actually says!) :-)
littlebabybird: I looked around and did not see anyplace to reset your password - you may want to either use the "Contact" link, send Fencer a message, or wait for Fencer to see your message here.
hi there, does anyone know how i change my pass word on here? i cleared my cookies on the pc at home and i cant remember my pass word, i can get on at the work pc and wondered if there is any way i cange the pass word from the inside! any ideas any one? i did the email thing for forgotten paswords at the sign in page yesterday but it didnt auto send me the pass word :(
browsing to the zillion messages on the discussion board, i found yours. What drew my attention? Let me explain why the words "...why you deserve a membership" popped out in this this overkill in messages
-why: interesting ... its this kind of questions that haunted human kind for ages. I decided to read on
-you: who? me? Uh-ow, it is getting personal. now i certainly want to read on
-deserve: lazy as i am, i dont like the change in tone in this question. Dilemma: should i read on, or shouldn't I? I decided to give it a gow
-a: not much information here. Again faced with the dilemma: should I, or shouldn't I? The choise is harder this time, given the low gain I had making it the previous time. Going to make a cup of coffee to think things over...
ready, and I have decided: i'll read on.
-membership: huh? excuse me? on this cool site? What a twist. this made the question very interesting... hard to find an answer though... maybe i could try to prove to be worthy by trying to win the tournament?
I know this isnt a BK issue, well not for everybody....But "Dolittle" goes into hospital today and wont be available for approx. 7 days...lets wish her luck...and hope that her husband can control her dog hehehe
Ok, if that's what you want :-) Here is Bernice's entry. (And I'm glad you're excited!)
There was a young man named Kevin,
Who ultimately must have come from heaven,
He has offered a lot,
to people who have not,
Any means of getting real even.
Im sorry but I just couldnt resist the opportunity of writing a stanza or two on this.
I hope you arent offended.
I dont have a real reason for not being a member apart from the fact I am a disabled pensioner and can't afford the $50AUS.
What you are doing is just the greatest thing :)
Good luck in life young man....you will go far :)
The first double entrance is already discovered. Herculesbeast and Savage are the same and even play eachother to get one on the first place of a ranking list. He admitted it to me when I asked him about it. I am not entering this tournament, it takes to long to play a tourney with more then 100 players
I appreciate your clarifying those points, and there is no doubt that the Rook membership is the best overall value. I was considering Knight only to limit myself; that is, 50 games is a reasonable cap, and if I went much over that then other personal endeavors would suffer.
But, I really just wanted to make sure I could enter a tournament (provided enough game slots) of a particular type, assuming of course I was not already in one of that type. Your posts cleared that up.
Also, Pioneer, it does state that it is when the tournament finishes, rather than when the individual finishes his/her part of the tournament.
But as a knight, you could still not join every game type of tournament, because you would still have limited game slots! If you are considering membership I would highly recommend rook, you would be able to join unlimited tournaments and have unlimited games... and you would also be able to create your own tournament, and fellowship. The benefits are far greater for a rook.
I will soon be starting a tablut tournament for pawns with a 6 months rook membership as a prize. I will allow plenty of time to sign up as I know some pawns will have to wait for tournaments to finish. You could enter that! As far as I know there are no tablut masters among the pawns (and only a handful among rooks! lol) so everyone stands a good chance of winning.
As a pawn you can join ONE tournament of any game at a time. When your section in that tournament finishes, you can join another.
As a rook, you have unlimited tournament entry.
As a knight, you would be allowed to join one tournament of each game type. That includes Halma 8x8 and Halma 10x10 as different games, so you could join about 45 tournaments at a time if you wanted to (i'm not sure exactly how many games there are now).
Not sure if this is the correct forum instead of the tournament board, but...
If I get a Knight membership, how many different tournaments can be entered? The site literature says one of each kind of game, but I am wondering what exactly constitutes a "kind of game". For instance, if in a Halma8 tournament, could I also get into one for Halma10?
These would seem to be different games, although when I finished my first tournament as a Pawn I was fooled into thinking I could join another tournament, but to my dismay I discovered that I had to wait for the other players' games to finish!?
I have no objection to the site's policies, but I think they could be more explicit.
Hi there GLM there is a game called Tank Battle here which I consider to be even better than Battle Ships. Give it a try and I am sure you will find it challenging.
Thanks TT, as soon as I can delete again without getting rid of half a dozen other messages in the process I will remove the post Dano left.
Unless, Dano, you would be good enough to remove it for me? It seems TT has deleted one with no problems. I daren't try until I get the green light from Fencer but it would be greatly appreciated if you would remove your posts also?
Please dont bring your arguments here. Dano, you've had your say, now can we leave it there? I do not have a delete option right now which means any inappropriate posts and I'll be left with no option but to ban you. That goes for you too, TT.
