Asunto: Re: member benefits
OK I will repost my ON topic post then, and say that my last comment was on topic too, because I was asking something would not be used on BK anymore.

Previous post:--
I know this has been asked before, but is there any reality over this more doubles for paying members in backgammon?

Ive been watching some of my games recently and it does seem to happen.

1 in 6 chance of rolling a double.
That suggests they should appear very regularly, lets say, ummmmmm, approx once every 6 rolls.

I used to think these sorta things happened too until I really took a good look back and realized that it was truly random.

Remember also, random does not mean evenly distributed at all times, random also means that clusters will occasionally occur too.

8. Abril 2004, 21:52:15
Artful Dodger
the odds of rolling any double are 35 to 1

I'm not going to answer such ridiculous questions again. Read the backgammon rules. Is there anything about paying members?

8. Abril 2004, 21:55:13
LongJohn GZ
might be 35 to 1 odds but that is only for a particular double. The odds are still 1 in 6 of rolling "a" double

coan.net
Paying members are able to play more games, giving them more rolls, giving them more doubles. But on average, it all works out.

Reminds me of a person who was complaining about this same thing months ago..... and he complained while that the dice were against him, yet he had a 2000+ rating!

(But if you really thin paying members get better dice - send in your $$ to Fencer now to upgrade your membership!) <wink wink>

As I am a paying member who only plays chess, can we please add dice to the game so that I too may have an unfair advantage! Oooops, off to the feature request board... :-)

Asunto: Suggestion?
not being one to run invitation tourneys, as a suggestion maybe in the BK.v2

Put an option to invite your whole fellowship or similar,(and then delete the ones you dont require) instead of having to go into everybody's profile and send individual invitations...

just a thought....does anybody else feel annoyed (not annoyed, but grrrrr :) :)) at having to go into each individual profile???

I do, Bernice! (But that really should be on the feature request board, and Goodfoods post should be on the tourney board!! *sigh* :oP Happy Easter!)

Asunto: Money transfers
Congrats Kevin and thanks for your great support :-)
Now, let me describe my current problem. I am not satisfied with Swreg.org where I keep my e-store to process BK membership payments. That's why I am currently looking for an alternative.
PayPal is not possible, for some strange reason our country is not in their list of eligible countries.
However, I've found MoneyBookers.com which is suited especially for international users [me] and looks very interesting. Does anybody have experiences with them?

Fencer,
do unrated games show up on statistics even though they dont affect bkr?
or do they just not show up on anything?

You're welcome Fencer! Just glad i can support this site... :-)

re: moneybookers.com

I had a brief look at it, and from what i saw it looked good - very small charge to pay (1% to a maximum of 0.50 EUR), and it said you don't need an account to pay someone. The only bad thing is it doesn't look like they support paypal :-( Oh well... :-)

11. Abril 2004, 21:28:08
Fencer
Hmmm, what if I give some bonus for people who register there instead of on PayPal? :-)

I think anything you offer a little extra for Fencer, people will prefer to use.

Asunto: I would do it
It seems that there is a 3% fee to upload the funds (I assume that mean to make a payment...upload funds to make a payment? 3% is not much. One would need a credit card though (from the US))

11. Abril 2004, 22:47:52
Kevin
lol Fencer - what about people who register on both...? :-)

11. Abril 2004, 22:48:46
Kevin
I took uploading funds to mean adding funds to your account (so you could pay someone directly from your account rather than with a credit card or whatever)...

12. Abril 2004, 01:23:59
Artful Dodger
That's how PayPal works Kevin so you're probably right. Then, once the funds are uploaded, I can just transfer the funds to the BK account. Sounds easy enuf and if it works better for Fencer, all the better. It may create a problem for some that don't hold a credit card though. You don't need one with PayPal.

12. Abril 2004, 03:10:42
Kevin
It looks like you don't need a credit card to add funds to your moneybookers.com account either - i was looking through it and it gave you the option of a credit card or bank account...

12. Abril 2004, 08:52:42
Fencer
They want to verify your identity by faxing or e-mailing a copy of ID card with photo. I did it yesterday, now waiting for a response.

the thing that bothers me is that they do not have a "HTTPS" security:(
but then what would i know :(

12. Abril 2004, 09:38:53
Fencer
Bernice: Who doesn't have https? Moneybookers have it.

12. Abril 2004, 09:40:18
Fencer
Btw, there is one interesting paragraph regarding credit card payments on moneybookers.com:

"Your customers can pay you immediately via credit card, even if they are not yet registered with Moneybookers. All they need is to have their mobile phone ready to allow us an instant transaction authorisation during the payment process."

How many people would provide their cell phone number for this reason?

12. Abril 2004, 09:44:01
Bernice
I put in http://moneybookers.com
no https there:(
please who me where:) im havent been into the site in DETAIL

12. Abril 2004, 09:46:43
Fencer
Bernice: There is no reason to use secure protocol on public pages :-) But after you log in, evrerything is done through https. I would use it on BK as well but the certificate is too expensive [800 USD a year].

Fencer - How soon are you planning not to accept PayPal/Swerg?

My membership is comming up soon, and even though I have not heard anything good/bad about this new site - I really don't like giving bank/credit card info to anyplace new (other then PayPal) - so I need to make sure I get my membership in before this changeover or I might have to go without a membership for awhile.... and I don't know if I could handle that! :-)

12. Abril 2004, 17:25:15
Fencer
BBW: No details like that have been planned yet, I am currently gathering information :-)
Btw, speaking of PayPal, what do you think about this site?

12. Abril 2004, 17:30:19
coan.net
I read that site often - along with a couple of others... which is why I'm VERY carefull about what I do there, and if I accept them on my eBay auctions.

But persoanly, I have never had a problem with PayPal.

I was actually looking at that site earlier today when I was searching for information on money bookers, since that site has a list of alternatives to PayPal.

But I always keep an open mind, and I have been reading that site for awhile now.... Hum.... I think I might have even posted about that site on this site long ago... :-)

I had a dozen or so games I was playing, all of the links were fine but this one. I've emptied the cashe, took out the trash, booted, and all that. Just THIS link is a problem. I've had this happen before. Can anyone else reach this and what should I do? :)
