I was just looking, and notice that Fencer made a new board: Missing people - This is a temporary board to post information about the members who are missing since the hurricane Katrina which hit hard several states in the USA

I usually try not to post information on multiple boards, but I thought many people would be interested in this board.

playBunny: I think the purpose for the limits on the Knight membership is to encourage users to buy a full Rook Membership.

But at the same time, for someone who does not want a lot of games and does not need the extras, then a knight membership is a good thing to have.

To increase the knight membership privledges would only decrease the rook membership. The limits are in place so when a user does want more, they will upgrade to a full rook membership.

Which of course all of this is my opinion. :-)

Asunto: Re: Brain points
Fencer: If a knight is able to get someone to buy a rook membership, I would think it would be good to at least give them some brains. Maybe 75% of what a rook would get would be good.

Otherwise a Knight might try harder to get the person to only get a knight membership themself - which of course a rook would be beter for the site.

Not sure if it's a bug or if it is suppose to be this way.

In the games which I have not completed a game for awhile (lets take Maharajah Chess for example), even though I do have a rating, it shows me as "unrated" while playing a game.

I would still think it should show my rating during a game, but just keep me off the "high ratings" list.

Example game: http://brainking.com/en/ShowGame?g=999430

So is it suppose to be like that, or is it a bug?

Asunto: Re: Upgrades
playBunny: I think Fencer can do it a few ways. One will be that your rook membership will start right away, then when that is over, you can have your additional 4 months of Knight.

But if you talk to him, he may go ahead and "covert" your 4 months of knight membership for 2 extra months of rook membership. I'm not 100% sure of this - best to do is just message him and ask.... he will work with you.

mrloupcity: Opps - just replied to your SAME message you posted in the tournaments board before seeing a 2nd copy here.

Basicly it should not happen. Tournament creators have no way to change the time a tournament has once the tournament is created. If you have examples, we could look at it a little closer since the only way it would happen is if it's a bug.

shagglbrox: yup, all current games & tournaments - Plus any "next rounds" in tournaments will all start and continue.

Like Bry said, no new games.

PLUS - NO MORE POND MOVES - so if you are in a pond, you will not be able to make any moves.

Asunto: Re:
Antje: You don't get 18 hours for each move.

You start with a TOTAL TIME "pool" of 18 hours.

Take an example with NO BONUS

You start with 18 hours to make your first move - you take 8 hours.

The game comes back to you, you now have a "pool" of 10 hours to make your next move. Lets say you take 5 hours to make this move.

The game will then come back to you with only 5 hours to make your next move.

coan.net
Asunto: Re: time outs
Antje: Looks like the games were with the new Fischer's clock

Time: 18 hours, Bonus: 6 hours, Limit: 30 days

So it means you started with a time pool of 18 hours. Lets say for example you wait until 1 hour is left in your time pool.

When the move is sent back to you, your time pool of 1 hour gets an additional 6 hours (BONUS) - bringing your new time pool for the game to 7 hours.

Here is a good chart to compare what the different membership levels get:

Asunto: Re:
Czuch Chuckers: That is what we are talking about.

The "Total game time". The example is 3/1/10 means:

3 days total game time for a person.
1 day added for each move
10 days is the MAX amount of time you can have.

So if it was 3/0/10

That would mean you would get no extra time, a person would have 3 days total to play the game (Meaning if both players use all their time, 6 days max until game is over) (Plus the /10 part would not matter since no time is added)

And there is no vacations or weekends used in these types of games.

7. Julio 2005, 02:20:47
coan.net
Asunto: Re:
rod03801: Yes I think you have it.

For example:

3 days moves
1 day bonus
10 days total.

Your clock starts at 3 days. If it takes you 2 days to make a move, you clock is down to 1 (PLUS the bonus of 1 day) which will then leave you with 2 days for your next move.

But lets say you have the 3 days, but you move in 1 hour - leaving you with 2 days, 23 hours (PLUS the bonus of 1 day) which will then leave you with 3 days, 24 hours.

And since vacations & weekends are not used - the faster you play, the more time you can "bank" up if that tournament includes bonus time.

I think I explained it correctly.

Stevie said it was OK to talk about his situation, so here it is. Normally, we would not talk about details about someone, but in this case permission was given.

The issues with Stevie as a moderator has been under review for awhile.

Mostly it has to do with language on many boards all over the BrainKing site. Most of the time when he uses foul language, he knows it is wrong and is just waiting for another moderator or Global Moderator to remove it. This is not how a moderator - someone who was picked to help represent this site should act.

The "word" in question is just the last straw. This "word" was something he just got hidden/baned for using the day before, so he KNEW it was something he should not use on a public board. Even knowing all this, he posted using this "word" on the board he moderator - I guess hoping that it would not get edited/removed since it was on a board he moderates.

His post with this "word" which he already knew there was an issue with was removed by a moderator. At this point, the discussion went on with the Global moderators - and it was basicly a "last straw" type of thing - where Stevie purposly posted this "word" already knowing that he should not post it. At this time, the Global Moderators agreed that he should not be representing this site as a moderator, and he was removed from his moderating duties.

And even though this "word", many people may not have a problem with - this is a global site so sometimes what does not bother one person can bother another. And I can see if he was not warned about it first - but he was just hidden/banned for using this same "word" the day before. So he KNEW he should not be using this word on the public boards. Again, he KNEW he should not be using that "word" on a public board.

Again, Stevie gave permission to talk about his issue.

Bluefin: When you are in cloak mode, you can no longer see what other people are doing.

(So since they can't see what you are doing - you can't see what they are doing type of thing.)

So that is why you see "disabled when you are cloaked" under some people

bwildman: Again, just that 1 word was not the reasons action was taken - there is more to the story, more which I'm not going to go into detail here because - well you are not the person involved.

If that person would like me to talk to you about the issue more, then they can let me know that and I will send you a message. Other then that, I can not get into more detail here.

Asunto: Re:
bwildman: How are the Global Moderators run unchecked? All (Yes, ALL) the discussion made about global moderating issues are done in a board where Fencer reads and inputs when needed.

The Global Moderators do not want to run the boards, but it is our jobs to make sure the boards are ran according to BK rules.

coan.net
Asunto: Re:
bwildman: At the time that action was taken on the post, that person was the only one on-line, After more Globals came on-line, stronger action was taken. No, the simple task to edit/delete post with language problems is not something that Globals need to discuss - it is the rules of the site to not use foul language, and any moderator or Global Moderator need to follow those rules of the site.

6. Junio 2005, 15:34:17
coan.net
Asunto: Re:
bwildman: The Global Moderators have discussed this issue and many others in detail, and it is not the decision of just one Global that makes and takes action against a person - but something that we agree with as a group. (Note: A discussion that is made which Fencer can read and input on our discussion.)

I really do not want to start giving out the details about action taken with a moderator in public or to other parties other then the moderator affected, and will be happy to discuss it more with the person involved - but I can tell you that it was more then just a "SINGLE word" that lead us to our actions.

First I really like the option of having multiply boards in fellowships now - I also like it that we can offically add any board to the Favourites list, since for myself there are a couple that I like to have quick access to.

I really liked how it was set up earlier, showing all the sub-boards in the fellowship list - without it, the only way to know if there are new post on these sub-boards is to either add them to your favourites list (Way too many for some), or to always visit the fellowships main page. (But I can see how some would not like it.)

I would love to see an option to either have these on or off in settings - or beter yet, right on the main page where the fellowships (?): is listed, have an "Expand" / "colapse" option which will show or not show these sub boards.

Shreela: Like pauloaguia said, the option in "Settings will give you a few options:

That is why you click "Next" on a game, what game it will take you to:

  • "The same column as on Main Page" - Does what it says, in the same order as on main page
  • "time left" - (Ascending) will play the game with the least amount of time left first.
  • "last move time" - This will play the game by how long it's been sitting on your move. This (in my opinion) is the best way to go through ALL the games that you have a turn for - giving all games at least 1 turn before going back and giving a game a second turn.

When the ponds are "turned back on", may I request that 24/48/72 ... hours are added to each pond rather then just letting ALL the ponds go to the next round at the same exact time.

This will help in a couple ways.

    1) The server will not have 400+ ponds going to the next round at the same time.

    2) Someone who has a lot of ponds will not have the same time-out time on almost all their ponds.
