Asunto: Profiles
When I made my last change to my profile (Take a look, it's long - but not as long as it was before!) - I tested it in the BrainKing Notepad first, edited it to make sure it looked like I wanted, then copy-pasted into the true profile edit field. I forget if pawns have a BrainKing Notepad, but if so - try it there!

Here is how I invite a user to a game.

1) Go to that persons profile
2) Find the " Invite PLAYER to a game of ____", choose a game and hit send
3)This page you have lots of options to invite multiply games, who is what color, etc - default is 1 normal game. At this point, you should be able to hit Send.
4) At this point it is waiting for the other person to accept. on the bottom of your main page, you will see a list of invites you have sent.

If you are still having problems, let me know and I can try to help.

Asunto: re: Moderators
That is one of the reasons for the past year, I have been saying that there should be some sort of rules/guidelines that Moderators should try to follow on all public boards - but as you see, each Moderator is left to determin the rules for themselves - and when multiply Moderators try to watch the same room, when one of them see's things differently how things should be ran. (For example, GC room - one see's off topic post as good, other see's it as bad. One see's removing post and leaving user as OK, other sees that post should be put on hide.... etc... etc...) Time like this I'm glad I don't share Moderator job with anyone on the boards I watch! :-)

What would be some rules/guidelines Moderators should have (in my opinion)

1) Post should try to stay on topic of the room. IF post start to go off topic, a friendly reminder should be posted by Moderator to take the talk to General Chat, or where it is appropriate.

2) Foul Language needs to be removed from the board. If a post is a good on-topic post with just place or two of foul language, the post should be edited to remove the foul language, and also at the bottom of the post, you should put *edited by XXXXX for language*

3) If there are multiply Moderators of a room, the first one listed in the MAIN Moderator. If any of the other Moderators comes across someone breaking the rules over and over, they should HIDE that persons and let the main moderator have a look at them to decided if that person should be banned.

4) The MAIN Moderator should be the only person to unban a user. The only exception whould be if the main moderator is off line for more then 4 days, and the punishment has been served by the user.

... of course those 4 are just off the top of my head - probable need to be tweeked more, and more added.

About a week ago or so, Fencer moved most graphics to it's own server, or to a different part of the server, or something (moved it so they would load faster) - Anyway, I think the problem is with the image server where it's not loading all the graphics correctly all the time. I'm sure once Fencer/Liquid check it out that will be back to normal.

Are you talking about resigning a match or game?

If I understand it correctly, if they already have a piece removed (and cube not used), then that match is worth 1 point then they should be able to start the second match.

If a player is about to lose 1 point in the first match, but does not want to play the other matches - then he would forfeit the points from those also - to the max amount of points.

Why let a player get out of a game where the other person has a chance to get maximum points from them?

Asunto: Re: Pro Backgammon
The only problem with that is if a weaker player is playing against a much stronger player, they may just time out to lose less points then play it out to lose the max points. So to be fair to the player who does not time out, I believe it should be for the max points.

I think the KM book is planned for the 2 year annerversary of the downfall of the KM, with the movie following on the 5th anniversary.

When the KM was around, I tried to ignore most of if - just played the true games on the site, and not the outside games - so my curiosity would be to know if they had any "data" on me. :-)

Asunto: Re: Ratings Fallacy
... a good example of why possible ratings should be calculated from the ratings when they first started the game, not when the game is complete.

22. Septiembre 2004, 20:33:51
coan.net
*enter BBW again*

... speaking of ratings again, something that has always annoyed me is a rating is calculated from the rating at the time the game ends.

So lets say you are rated 1500 and start a games with someone rated 2000. But by the time the game is complete, his rating drops to 1000. Now you rating will not raise as much as if he was the 2000 rated person you started the game with.

In live games (where most ratings come from), this is not a problem since games are usually started and completed at the same time so rating never has a chance to change.

May I ask why ratings are figured this way and not using the rating the person had when they started the game?

I think the full 3 points should be given each time for a timeout.

That way if someone is about to lose, they will not let it time out with the possiblility to not lose as many points.

Yea, the bug list is getting long - hard to remember what is there or not.

Fencer - I know it's not a top priority, but would be nice to sort bug list to show still open bugs only.

Stevie - I think that is a bug if there is a draw (Bug #7)

If that was not a draw, then there is another problem. :-)

Doing the math, especially when users have few games you can see a lot of weired things..... and when i say few games, that is under 100.

1) Doing the math, even if you win you could actually lose rating points. (But I believe in the coding of BK, you will never lose points for a win - even if the math says so) - hence, sometimes your rating will just not move.

2) Ratings are rounded. So if says you have 1700, you may actually have 1700.2 --- and then if you win, your rating might raist to 1700.4, but will still show as 1700.

3) The fewer games you have finsihed, the more erradic your rating will be. BK tries to solve this a little to not even show you ratings until 4 games are done, and not show established until 25 games are complete. (Heck, I actually think I read somewhere where 400 games should be the minimum amount of games that need to be complete before getting a good established rating.)

4) Good news is that Fencer is working on a way to recalculate all the ratings from day 1 on all the games soon.... so if people really think things are off a little (And my froglet rating is about 30 points to low because of a bad game timeout), it will be fixed!

Yes, any page - right above & to the left of "Main page" in the left hand menu.

I think it is for knights and above only. Plus it sounds like it does not work with WebTV either.

To see it, first you have to change your settings so Javascript will work.

Then in the upper left corner of the screen (above & left of "Main Page"), if you stick your mouse there, a drop down menu will list the first 30 games which it is your turn to move in the order that in on the main page.

Question - for team tournaments, each team is sorted by rating.

... and since ratings can change...

When the second round starts, does the team order stay the same as the first round, or does each team get reordered by what the rating is at that time?

I'm on column layout also. Are you on a PC? Did you make sure that the javascript option is now checked in your profile? Then the question would be is what browser are you useing.

18. Septiembre 2004, 01:37:24
coan.net
Ok, Ok, Ok.

First I believe you have to set Javascript enable in settings.

Second, on any page, put your mouse in the upper left hand coner of the page (upper left above the "Main Page") (Not sure how this looks if people have their page layout different)

Third - you will see clickable menu that list the first 30 games on your main page as quick links to those games.

And don't forget, as Fencer said - still testing so it may not work for everyone, and may be some bugs?

There are always other CSR's which will not have the person on their enemy list - and if it happens that most/all the CSR's does put the same person on their enemys list, then we have to start to ask ourselfs if that person even belongs on BK. :-)

Bringing back an idea that I had a long time ago - different "color" type icons to show different support level. (Since if Money is what is needed for this site, some will donate extra money just to get an extra little symbol next to their ID)

You could have Red rooks, blue rooks, bronze, silver, gold, or even a cool multi color rainbow rook -- all meaning different extra support for this site.

Modificado por coan.net (3. Septiembre 2004, 21:03:56)
The tournament starting process has been acting very strange the past day or so.

Take for example my "Fast Start Froglet" tournament. Currenlty as I write this, #1-6 has started, #7 & #8 are in the waiting stage, and #9 has started (passing up #7 & #8)

& a couple of others are "stuck" in the waiting games section - will add this to Bug Tracker.

3. Septiembre 2004, 16:30:48

1) I agree with harley that you should let Fencer handle it. He knows about the problem, and will deal with it (if needed to be dealt with) in his own time frame. [If he takes too long, people complain. If he steps up and removed people & Fellowships quickly, people also complain. no win situation for Fencer!] He has always dealt with issues like this in the past, but sometimes it takes awile.

I actually have 2 test accounts that I have used: 001 & 002. 001 is the only that I mostly use, but had to have 002 one time when I was testing a bug which let pawns play in Fellowship tournaments. (fixed now). I don't even use these accounts for practice, just for trying to find bugs to keep Fencer busy! :-)

In reply to: ughaibu (Backgammon bug - swap dice)

As a note, if you swap dice on your very first turn, it then thinks it's the opponents turn (Bug)

But if you do pass it, even if the opponent swaps, it will stay their turn. (I was playing and already tested that the other day.) The original bug still needs fixed, but it should not go into any loop or anything.
