Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future.
If you experience connection or speed problems with BrainKing, please visit Host Tracker and check "BrainKing.com" accessibility from various sites around the world. It may answer whether an issue is caused by BrainKing itself or your local network (or ISP provider).

That was part of my "point" in the post. Its NOT a BK problem all the time. Its users ISP and their own PCs that prolly need upgraded. As for certain users opionions U speak of, its the same 5 people over and over that complain. I dont see any new people complaining of slowness. I live in the middle of nowhere and have very few issues with the site. All I was saying was the WWW is full of places to visit, if BK is slow then go visit another site for a few minutes or even an hour.
If a person just sits on BK all day and wants to play games, thats a waste of time and brain waves, find something better to do. The internet is an awesome place to explore...
Antje: I know last year.. when we were all getting our life timers ($400 US) we were pretty much satisfied with the speed of the site.. now, a year later we are told to leave if we don't like it.. hmm..
Sorry if this is boring to some of you newbies out there.. I shall have to remember some of your comments when you have the same experiences..
AbigailII: thats an excellent expression, your post nailed it exactly. i know there are times when it literally flies (referring to the speed of the pages loading) and there are times when no site loads fast.. then its pretty much a no brainer, the cause is the ISP. when one site consistently is slow, and for days and days, and all other sites are going consistently at a fast speed, the conclusion is also simple.. isnt it?? it is so painfully slow, and im a patient person, to make 2 moves in a minute is terrible. i used to be able to make many many more moves each day then i am able to now. is there a way we can track that with all the statistical info available. can the site be evaluated in such a way that a person logging on and staying on the site makes X amount of moves this day. the next day the number changes, and consistenty every one from a certain country is making considerably less moves/time online... there will be variables of course, people surfing the boards and writing messages, etc, but there should be a way to track this, isnt there?
or2ak.com: I dont think telling people to do something else solves Brain Kings problems. If you use your hide button you dont need to read posts from ceratin users who are giving their opinion in order to make the site better.
All the negativity from certain 4 or 5 users is getting old, If ya dont like it here, why keep logging in? The site is NOT slow for everyone. I myself have mentioned that Its a little sluggish from time to time on my desktop but when I use my laptop its faster than ever. What does this tell me? well, not all PCs run the same obviously. When BK is slow I find something else to do in the meantime. Thats whats so great about the WWW... LOTS to do without getting bored!
Instead of always putting the site down and having a negative attitude, maybe U should invest in a new PC? BK isnt the slowest site and not the fastest, but the same 4 or 5 members here seem to enjoy complaining more than playing. If U cant play because of slowness, then find something else to do, dont make BK your life. There are millions of web sites to visit, try one of the others, its called surfing. Enjoy and have fun, STOP COMPLAINING all the time.
Hrqls: i know some people who dont have connection problems, and some who do .. if thats the case then it cant be the brainking server
That's way too simplistic. That's like saying since it takes some people more than an hour to drive from The Hague to Amsterdam, but it takes some people less, there cannot be traffic jams - they must have slow cars. You're discounting the fact that traffic jams don't occur all the time. It's the same with the connection to Brainking. The fact that some people consider everything to be fine doesn't mean that there isn't a problem. It maybe that those people play at different times than the people complaining. It maybe that the people who consider everything to be fine have low expectations. It maybe that the people who have no problems happen to have a provider that has good peering with Brainkings provider, and the people that have problems have providers with bad peering agreements. Or maybe the Check Republic has just one lousy connection to the USA, and an excellent connection to Italy, so people from the USA will complain, and people from Italy will say it's fine. (And yes, Brainking *can* do something about that (relocate for instance), if it were the case - but 'can' is something else than 'should').
Now, I've my own ideas about whether or not there are problems, and if there are whether or not it's something BK can or should address. Fencer has made it quite clear what his viewpoint is. Expressing your disagreement in a public folder doesn't do anyone any good. Play here as long as you can tolerate it - and if it become to slow for you, vote with your feet.
But I will speak up if someone expresses himself naively.
Quote Ewe: All this moaning will make you old & grey way before your time. Relax, enjoy & be nice...much more enjoyable
Well said. My main reason for speaking out is to denounce the rude replies and outright disrespect that is a constant on this board from the site owner. Silence condones the act. I will not stay silent.
Andersp: i didnt see that post about the expensive line but i havent read all post the last 3 weeks (as i was on vacation and didnt get online) ... maybe its too expensive for the money brainking is generating .. if thats the case then the membership fees would have to increase more to be able to use that line ... (i remember 1 post about an expensive line, but that was about direct lines from the brainking server to each user :))
i know some people who dont have connection problems, and some who do .. if thats the case then it cant be the brainking server
Andersp: i wonder why you used to many white lines in your message
i agree that fencer is not always that diplomatic in his answers, i hope you wont apply that same characteristic on me though
the problem with the connection speed, is that not everyone has the same problem .... i am from the netherlands and dont have that much problems with the speed, redfrog is from the usa and doesnt have any problems, fencer says he doesnt have any problems .. the only difference between the users who do have problems and those who dont have must be the route by which the connection goes ... that route is something in which fencer doesnt have any influence and which he cant 'fix'
this has been said more than once, it even appeared as a blog on brainking.info ... it would be nice if that topic would come to an end .. or if there is some miraculous solution if someone would post it somewhere (probably the computer board as it might be quite technical)
some people do like the extra features, thats why he adds them (but the ones who do like them are silent while the ones who dont like it are quite loud)
the only rule for this board is to be on topic (and to be nice and have some netiquette)
NOT a floosie: I cannot resist to say it again, although it might be easier to link to the relevant posts:
1) Nobody expects people on any position to be there forever. It happens in every company, no matter how big or small it is, and it means absolutely nothing. Nobody is forced to do what he doesn't want to do and nobody is blamed for that.
2) No matter what I say or write, there will be always someone who would react "this is rude!" and no matter how many hours/days/months we spend on the site development and performance tuning, there will be always someone who claims "it is terribly slow!".
The conclusion - none of the mentioned points means that BrainKing has no future. (and how many people are offended by this childish smiley now?)
Many posts ago i suggested that Fencer has to learn to treat his customers with more respect OR "hire" people who can serve at the "Courtesy desk". It doesnt help if they change the description of this board if we dont get any answers from the owner or if he tells us to not feed the Trolls and other arrogant stuff
Obviously he has plenty of time since he can add trash cans and other unneeded stuff, why cant he use that time to try to fix the connection speed?. People doesnt complain just because its fun, people complain because they have a reason.
Add the silly oneliners and "off topic" signs (seems that each mod has his rules) and you have a messy discussions board..
NOT a floosie: i would have to guess for sure - but i would guess that either something will change to alter the mindset of the people you are referring to - or they will leave the site and find someplace better.... i dont plan on leaving - as i dont have any issues with my connection speed or the site owner....
Brainkings Future: This is in reference to questions or comments about the future of brainking and what it might look like in the future.
So...what is the future of BK if it continues with slowness problems, mods and globals that have been here for years leaving their positions, and a site owner that appears to be rude to the people supporting him?
Asunto: Re: at the moment no players are hidden or banned on this board
srnity: There is currently no one at the board level that is hidden or banned on this board. There are some that have global bans, but the moderators of the boards have no control over that.
AbigailII: it seems a fair request to me - and thankfully - hrqls posted while i was writing that he would work on doing just that.... so hopefully soon the description itself will be more detailed....
Asunto: Re: at the moment no players are hidden or banned on this board
Hrqls: Ahemmm, I know of at least one ......."You are not allowed to post messages because you have been banned by BrainKing.com administrator"....... truth will set you free, or something like that .......
redfrog: Well, I'm not a native English speaker, but any qualification that starts with "Board for everybody who ..." for me is a qualification about the people who use the board, and not a qualification about the topic. Yes, I know it's pedantic, but I don't think it's any less pedantic than all the "this is off-topic" posts we have been seeing.
You want to keep waving "off-topic" graphics in everyone face? Then I think you start by being clear what the board is about - not as a post interpreting your idea what the charter of the board is, but by writing it down in the charter.
AbigailII: I have a far different opinion on the description....
The description is very clear on that fact that anyone is welcome to post regarding a couple of very clear topic guidelines...
Brainking itself: This is a reference to the site in general - thoughts regarding it as a game site...
Brainkings Structure: This is in reference to the website in a technical light - posts about the actual code behind what we as the user see, posts about how the site is organized...
Brainkings Features: This is in reference to all the menu links on the left and right of the screen, the in game options, the settings page and how things in general work...
Brainkings Future: This is in reference to questions or comments about the future of brainking and what it might look like in the future.
These clearly defined topics create a cohesive sense for the purpose of this discussion board, and it is appropriately represented in the title of the board - Brainking.com
several posts have been made encouraging others to stop "off topic" conversations. These would include any general chatting, posting of tournaments, and other such posts that have specific boards for such postings...
I think its clear that discussions about the speed of accessing the site have been exhausted.... not that such posts are off topic - merely that there is nothing left to say - and the majority of the posts regarding connectivity are non-productive and repetitive complaints ....
the majority of off topic posts that are edited or removed are due to the rude content, the abusive language, and or the way what could be considered an appropriate post is posted in an inappropriate way...
i really hope this helps with any confusion - and any further questions anyone has about the nature of the board should send a PM to Hrqls, the board main moderator....
In all the years Brainking has been in operation no one has ever had a problem understanding what exactly this board is for as its so very straight forward...suddenly...for some reason??? people do not understand! I think that is just nit picking! Are people so bored with life they have to nit pick at a board on a game site on the internet? So very sad indeed!
Come on people, why cant you just have fun here?
All this moaning will make you old & grey way before your time. Relax, enjoy & be nice...much more enjoyable
AbigailII: lol ok .. i guess i will have to change the description
as i read it as it is right now i thought it was clear that the subjects on this board are brainking itself, its structure, features and future which i think to be the topic of this board
i will think of another description .. please give me a week time :)

Hrqls: this board is about brainking and its future
To be pedantic, that's not what this page says. It says Board for everybody who is interested in BrainKing itself, its structure, features and future., so, from the description one could deduce this board doesn't have a topic, just a vague restriction on who can read/write the board.
I don't care much (although I find the smiley posts a waste of time) about what goes on on the board, but if people are eager to slap others with "off topic", perhaps people should start with clearly defining what is on topic. As it stands now, nothing is defined to be either on, or off topic.
Andersp: i dont know which post by redfrog you mean, if he posted on how many points in a game he scored then it was definetly off topic and should not have been posted here
this board is about brainking and its future .. so not only its future (but i think you didnt mean only its future)
my agreement with jasons emoticon was because discussing the oneliners just multiply the oneliners into many posts making it multiple-post-one-liners
your post itself wasnt offtopic though, i should have clarified that, sorry
i hope i am not using double standards, if you think i do please send me a pm once in a while there was a user (i dont think he is fluent in english) posted the standings in a tournament, he did this about once a month .. it was off topic, but as it always remained to be 1 post and didnt lead to a real off topic discussion i led that one go by .. some weeks ago he posted 2 posts about a tournament though and i directed him to the tournament board. thats where i try to draw a line .. when a (series of) post(s) is about to clutter the board and hiding the on topic posts into off topic ones .. then its time to do something .. an occasional off topic (single) post might slip through though as its often more confusing to remove/redirect the off topic one that to let that single 1 remain
if you want to discuss the modding or have tips/ideas please dont hesitate to send me a pm .. i am always eager to learn (but also might have my own opinion ;))
Andersp: i agree with both your points at most times
the thing to do about the oneliners destructing a discussion is to ignore them or let a mod take care of them (and if no mod does take care then send a pm to the mod of the board) .. at least dont react to it and multiply the onelines into many-posts
the emoticon from jason was appropriate though .. he could also have stated his post in a several lines, but this 1 emoticon serves a better purpose by keeping the board on its intention
Hrqls: Thankyou. Now I understand. I missed the point of the book discussion being off topic as I read it to still be about the moderators. I do see your point though.
TarantinoFan: there were 2 questions/comments on the last couple of pages : - the connection to brainking is bad for some users - badessi stopped being a comod on this board
about badessi and her reasons to stop being a comod of this board, she posted her own message explaining everything some people tried to make it sound like something else though and they continued in that line .. from that lead some more post which were not related to brainking at all anymore .. of course those messages can be fun and wont be censored .. but please post them at the appropriate board, some people like to come to this board and get info about brainking itself without all other posts thrown into as well .. if they want to read the other posts they can go to the general chat or some other dedicated boards
I fail to see how a discussion about the functionality of the site is off topic.
Brainking isn't running so well lately. It's Structure is failing in the eyes of quite a few members. It's Features are unviewable a lot of the time. We are refused access to it's features on a regular basis. And my personal view of it's features is that there are too many. It needs to be stripped back. Please do not feature any more red numbers until I can view the features that have been offered before and are hard to use because of lack of functionality.
And last but not least. From the tone of this board recently the Future of Brainking isn't looking so hot! I do believe the suggestion is that it's future will be a lot less solvent.
And I believe that discussion of moderators and global moderators comes under the heading of either Structure as they are an integral part of the smooth running of this site or they are a Feature of this site to be seen on every board.
So someone please tell me where the off topic is??????
