MadMonkey: The statistical odds of the code being the same are 1/ 32768 since the actual code does not matter. It is a statistical oddity, but should happen occasionally.
rabbitoid: I really like the idea as well but for a completely different reason. I think it is a good alternative to the rating system and stairs which can be manipulated. The official tournament winner can rightfully declare himself best at a game presuming all players are allowed to play.
Oceans Apart: it does. the only move that should have used autopass was your 11th move although you might not have noticed it since your opponent passed both his/her 11th and 12th moves. The reason that autopass is not used is because theoretically you can still double even if you cannot move. There was absolutely no reason for your opponent to do it in that game, but in some games, it can happen.
Oceans Apart: I personally wouldn't support autopass for ludo simply because it could take up a majority of the game. In backgammon, you only run into it in certain situations but in ludo it could occur for half of the game.
BIG BAD WOLF: Having vacation days on multi-player games, especially ones that are really large, cannot possibly work. Since we all take vacations at different times, a 3 or 4 days per move time control would turn into a week and a half to two weeks time control. So I think the best option is simply not to use autofinish in these.
This might already be up somewhere, but I think it would be helpful to have a link to Brainrook.com on the main page. You could remove it if you wanted to, but it could be very beneficial to new users. When people first come here, they probably don't know how to play many of the games. I certainly didn't. And while you can learn, it takes longer from just playing rather than reading articles. And as it is now, I think it would be difficult for people to find this helpful information.
I thought at some point Fencer mentioned that at some point, empty stairs would be removed. However, I am currently in a stair where I am on level 17 and the next highest player is on level 12 and I think it has been like this for a while.
BIG BAD WOLF: You will only be timed out if it is your turn during the time out check. So theoretically, the game could last for well beyond two hours.
BIG BAD WOLF: Well I have basically given up on the competition this month. I worked hard at times today to build a 500 point or so lead in 10th place. Then I get passed in about five minutes by some guy who got about 6500 points from the secret points. It's kind of demoralizing really. I definitely think there should be some cap on the points, but those who found it would disagree.
Hrqls: true, but many people don't have brains to begin with. July Action will give it to ten people so it is a start. I wish we had a promo period, a month even, where we gave out brains for winning tournaments or something entirely different. I think if we created a system to let everyone earn or attempt to earn brains, the brain tournaments would really start working. I think it was a great idea for Fencer to implement brain tournaments (as evidenced by my name), but so few people have brains that it doesn't seem to be working now.
Hrqls: Here's an idea to reward the top players. Have a brain system for winning tournaments. Maybe 20 brains for winning a tournament with 5 or fewer players and 50 for one with 6-10. And you could keep increasing it. And then have a set limit on number of tournaments that could count for this per month.
rednaz23: I think playbunny definitely runs away on the pawn side. On the rook side, I like imsoaddicted as well. Although that one is still up in the air. Short term it has made people move faster. Long term, I think you are going to see people go back to their original pace unless there continues to be some prize each month. Personally, if Fencer were to do something with the Action Points next month, I would suggest giving out 50 brains for a certain number of action points accumulated. Of course he would probably limit the number of brains you could accumulate per month this way. It would give people incentive to play, it would give people brains to enter into the prize with entry fee tournaments, and it would create achievable goals instead of having to play almost every minute of the day to win a prize.
LionsLair: not necessarily, games like Ludo or Backgammon Race will also become popular even though they are longer because people are looking for move points. The games that will be most popular are the "luck games" or ones where you don't have to think for long periods of time.
sidpatel: good luck to everyone. I agree. I hope to be in the top five although the top ten will still be nice. Top ten is my goal and then everything else is just icing on the cake.
Fencer: I wasn't necessarily expecting it. Simply wondering. Thanks Fencer. And sidpatel, I was asking if wins would be counted from when the action started or just now.
sidpatel: I agree. Fencer is a good person and he does a lot for his members (pawns included). And his niceness ironically had stirred up this debate. Regardless of how this situation turns out, I won't be too upset since Fencer had no obligation to offer any of those prizes. I guess that when someone does so well for so long, you expect him to be perfect. Hopefully, this will all turn out ok. Thanks Fencer.
playBunny: I agree. I am in a tournament where I am waiting for a round to finish so I would probably not get win points. If you want to do that in the future, I think it might be ok, but it would probably need to wait a few months so all or most pawns have a fair shot. It's already a little unfair with the 2-1 point ratio. But I can accept that since I can move more often. But to double that advantage might be too much.
