mctrivia: Actually, it would not be impossible if it's only a master-slave architecture because it could work even with a data copy delay. However, to host two full featured BrainKings would require a full two-ways fast Europe-America replication and that, uh, that would be a real problem. For example, consider a situation when a user in Europe accepts a public invitation but another user in USA accepts the same invitation at the same time. So the European server sends a message "hey, mark this invitation as accepted!" and, in a few seconds, it receives a message "it is already accepted by another player!". Bang! A replication conflict.
mctrivia: You read my mind. But the database replication is the main problem. Unless we want two isolated BrainKings which could share the list of users but not the table of games and moves.
Eriisa: Go to the Bug Tracker page, change the Status to New, click Show and use RSS URL of the resulting page. You will make a feed of reports with the New status only. Or is it not what you want?
Puckish: I love it when someone spreads catastrophic prophecies about BrainKing and mentions some kind of a majority. It always makes my day. It would be too boring to have only users with a positive thinking, we need unsatisfied members as well. A balance means a stability.
nametoolongtofi: You should be able to disable them at the Settings page but I might have forgotten about some of them. Can you give me the pages where you cannot turn them off?
rednaz23: Yes, it could be done. But imagine the huge amount of data to transfer to the browser if someone starts 1000 games and only a half of them contains a last move message.
coan.net: Very well. And if you fix transparent areas at Swedish and Bulgarian frame (there are some gray points just below the poster), I will add it.
mctrivia: I've been thinking about that a year ago. But: 1) Not all browsers support Ajax and the noscript solution would only make the page code longer. 2) If someone updates only a part of the page (e.g. game board section) and does it continuously for, say, an hour, he would not be aware of other important information like the number of new messages etc. 3) JavaScript based code is much more error prone than a simple HTML, so it would take more time to make it stable. Not to mention other server side changes which are necessary to make it work anyway.
Summertop: I am concerned but I have also no reason to believe there is any malicious software on BrainKing. As you have said, several users have had "suspect" problems but it's not proven that our site is responsible for that. And using a good anti-spyware software is a good practice because there are many sites where a spyware distribution is really proven.
jadarite: I don't think there would be a serious threat if we use swf banners. Who doesn't like them, can install an ad blocker and never would be bothered with them anymore.
coan.net: Of course not. I don't see any bad banners here. Furthermore, I have three computers and none of them is infected by any spyware or adware and all of them are used to test BrainKing pages (which means that people who observe "something strange" are obviously doing something wrong).
AbigailII: I never said I don't want to make word games. On the contrary, it would be nice to have 20 versions of some nice word game. The only problem is to get good word lists for all supported languages.
