Asunto: Re: "move and stay here" for battleboats variants only
King Reza: grenv is right, Ambiguous Chess (Atomic Chess too) is a perfect information game, you get no extra information after playing your move, you have to wait for your opponent's move to get this information... exactly like in standard chess ! For all these games there is no special interest in selecting "move and stay here".

grenv:Oh sorry. My mistake. The question meant immidiate showing of the result after a player moves. In Ambiguous Chess the result is not shown immidiately. I somehow understood the question incorrectly. Thought it meant the result is shown after a player moves, no matter 'how long after!'
Asunto: Re: "move and stay here" for battleboats variants only
grenv:Well, when there are more than one piece that can move to a certain square, and you choose that square, you cannot see the result unless your opponent has made a move!

grenv: ah, okay. thank you. it still seems an obscure thing to me, but i'm glad it got implemented for those who value it.
nabla and pauloaguia: thank you. the more games it applies to the more practical the feature will be.
anyone: are there still other games where a player might want to see the results of their moves but can only do so after the move has been submitted? Atomic chess shows the results of the move before the "move" button is hit, right?
Asunto: Re: "move and stay here" for battleboats variants only
plaintiger: Yes, I like your request, it seems logical for all games where you may get an info after you moved, so also for Dark Chess (are there others?).
Asunto: Re: "move and stay here" for battleboats variants only
plaintiger: I play backgammon and chess variants. I like to play one or the other sometimes, so i'll run through all the backgammon games and leave the chess until I have time to think about them.
Asunto: "move and stay here" for battleboats variants only
first a small rant: i personally don't see the usefulness of the "play next game of battleboats plus" link - why would it matter whether the next game you move on is battleboats plus or not? it's not like playing a different type of game between two battleboats moves can break your concentration - battleboats doesn't involve concentration! i understand that the feature was implemented because people asked for it - i just don't understand why they asked for it.
:: end rant ::
now then: what i think would be a *real* improvement would be the ability to set "move and stay here" as the default action for battleboats variants only. that would save me having to manually choose "stay here" from the popup menu after every battleboats plus move while allowing me to keep the default for all my other game types as "move and go to next game."
Maybe it's time to start discussing good possible gammon variants again on the Backgammon discussion board - I know there were a few good suggestions on the board awhile back.
hexkid: If you make it look like the "move" button, too many people will start clicking on that thinking they are taking a move. I think the way it is now where it will go to the next game as it is set up in your setting is good enough for the "play later" option. (in my opinion)
When viewing a game where it's our turn to play we have the option to "Play later". In the interest of completeness it could have a dropdown with the options available on the "Move" button when we're submitting a move.
[Play later] and * go to the main page * stay here * ... * go to the next game with Fischer's clock

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to see a statistic that would tell you the average time it takes a player to move, from the time the move appears on his move list to the time he submits a move?
Hello: Is this site available to teens and kids? If it is them maybe you could try to add board and other games that they like to play. Adults could try to play them too.
rod03801: Im not sure what the "new" one is ( I read the blog too) but the one that says "move and go to the next game with the most moves" is not even necessary, since we could already order our games by the most moves then simply use the "move and go to the next game" option!
I agree, the one we really need is the "move and go to the next fischer's game" option!!!!
I don't know if there hes been thid kind of request, but I'd love to see multi-game tournaments. For example, every players play all games against each others, or different games in different rounds etc. (To have very hazard tourneys: different games to different people) :)
Is it hard to implement? What do you think of idea?

Hey Fencer, while your adding things to the "move and go to" menu, how about move and go to next fischer clock game?? It is "absolutely necessary" too! (I read the blog.. lol)
Actually, another thing I would like to see is for each game to have a check box that you can click, and have that game or those games always come to the top of your list, no matter how you have your list ordered. This is good if you have certain people whose games you always want to move on as soon as you can. Friends... Especially interesting games.. or pawns.. (when I get ahead, I like to try and help my pawn opponents out and move more quickly on their games since they are limited.. though I haven't been "ahead" in a while! lol) ..
It could either be set up as the game automatically going to the top, or as an addition to the move and go to menu as "move and go to next checked (or special, or chosen or whatever term) game."
rednaz23: Actually, the system is prepared for a discussion board associated with a tournament ID. But somebody must code the remaining implementation.
An "official" letter has been sent in July to the French society Gigamic who commercializes some interesting games (Pylos, Quarto, Quoridor, Goblet...), in order to obtain the authorization to program their games on Brainking. Unfortunately, a negative answer has been obtained.
WatfordFC: Well, thats sort of funny! I just picked a tourney I was in... I just think a DB on a page like that would be cool! It would give people a place to talk about their specific tourney. There is no such place now for anything. You could make it so that the DB is closed once the last game is completed. It could work and I personally would like to see it. Please Fencer? This would count as my one "request" that a black rook gets... No? Yes? MAYBE! All right!
On that note... I thought of this... "More like one in a million..." "One in a million... so you're telling me there's a chance!" What movie is that? LOL
In the message sent when the final game of a match has been completed, no mention of the game being part of a match is made, yet the match result is stated as if it were the game result. Could this type of message include separate mentions of the game's result and the match's result?
There is a list of our BrainKing ratings rankings on our main page. There is currently an option to have them there or not. I am wondering if it is possible to offer us the choice in Settings to choose the game rankings that are listed. I have ratings in a dozen games or so. I would like to be able to choose about half of them to be displayed. The reason for my request is so that I don't have to scroll down to see if an opponent has moved. I still like the rankings shown at the top, however.
