but some things are better slow[wink].
ok seriously,I would wish more than anything else to see games were you could play with more than one opponent here.
I would wish to hear if anyone else would be interested?
Fencer: Lol. If you gave Pawns the ability to search this discussion board, nobleheart could have typed chinese into that there Search box and found that the first mention of Chinese Chess was back in March 2003.
hey fencer,as far as any thoughts about futue possible game additions.have you ever considered chiness chess(xiangqi)?
a great strategy game, anyone else here know of it?
Maxxina: I'm not sure what you mean, but if you mean to use a larger font then it would affect all the characters on the page and other web pages too, from other sites. That's a big downside. Furthermore, I have a smaller monitor as well, so the text would be too big for that one, lol.
Could there be an extra between the first/prev and next/last links, please.
On a large monitor these links are pretty tiny and I keep finding myself clicking the wrong one if I don't slow right down and home in on the little chevron.
<< < becomes << <
or perhaps use images instead, or make them a wee bit wider, or ... but the extra space would be enough. ;-)
Asunto: Making bids for later rounds of "Run Around the Pond" in advance
Modificado por Walter Montego (9. Agosto 2005, 02:18:21)
Fencer: Can the Ponds game be made so that a player may bid later rounds in advance? This could help someone with having to be away from the site and being stuck with the auto bid set up as it is now. I was thinking a week's worth of moves at most or four rounds. grenv seems to like having every round available. In either case the later round bids would be changable by the player if he wanted to change them or made it back to the site in time. A few have posted about it on the Ponds board if you'd like to see other imput on it. It certainly seems like a good idea and should be fair for all. The auto bid feature could be left in place too.
wekke: If you create a tournament through your fellowship page, only the fellowship members can participate. It won't be even displayed on the Tournaments page.
wekke: You can use the "Stuur een bericht naar alle leden van het genootschap" link on your fellowship page and post the tournament URL to the message.
It would be nice if I could send a tourney invitation to my whole fellowship...For private tournaments that is...Any possibility this might happen in the neir future? And threadened discussion boards.
it would be nice to see on page with tournaments (after clicking on Tournaments link on left menu) game type too. I know it is possible to filter game type but if I'm interested in seeing / playing more tournaments of different game types, I must choose many times game type to filter tournaments.
I would like to be able to cheer on members who have entered my ponds...
clicking on "discussion" only shows me what has been said....I would like to talk to the members in my ponds...expecially when it is a prize pond as is this one :(
rod03801: Just a small correction: There are no pond tournaments. The messages we receive when a pond is finished correspond to the PMs sent by the system after a game is over.
Fencer, would it be possible to send out messages to everyone entered in a tournament, when the tournament ends? (Like with the ponds)
Once I am done in a tournament, I tend to forget about the tournament, and never find out who ended up winning it. I love that feature with the ponds.
grenv: Checking words for their existance in a dictionary is trivial. Just stuff the dictionary words in a structure that's optimized for finding exact matches - of which there are many: a database, a DBM file, or something simple as a Perl hash, Python dictionary or AWK associative array. You just want to avoid re-reading the entire dictionary from disk for each lookup.
Grim Reaper: ai is a south american sloth, my favorite 2 letter word, along with aa (a hawaiian word for lava that slipped into the language somehow).
I think once the dictionary is in place it wouldn't take that long to parse. I wouldn't like to create it though. Of course you'd have to have a version in different languages with different letters etc etc.
miuek: my "stone" was painted on the fly in a few seconds in photoshop. just to make draft.
of course other colour patterns and so on can be used and other way of shadowing/lightning. No problem.
I agree with you. I want just to mention that simple picture (maybe one provided by chessmec at http://mec.tuwien.ac.at/private/mnemetz/brainking/redstone.png ) should be used. I like his picture but I think circle could by filled with other - not red - color.
BTW you can make better picture to have regular curve, but it'll have large size. I made smallest picture and then resize them - I think if you start creating every picture separatelly, they should look much better :-)
let me just say.. WOW.. so kewl for you to all put in your hard work findin them.. but, I think what fencer means when he says he doesn't care for the circular ones is how they get all pixelated when they are blown up.. so the line in the circle is not really a precise one.. it gets all uneven and it looks icky.. to say it nicely..
nobleheart: my word game idea should be relatively easy to code.
Maybe not. There are words such as "ai" and "rotl" that really do mean something in the English language (and they are not acronyms either.) You would have to parse an entire dictionary every time a player sets down a letter.
