It is getting quite tiring hearing about this on boards like these! Complain to Fencer about it, not us... With regards to your posts, every single one of your posts have been well beyond the line of what I would call deletable, as they contain multiple insults and do not pertain to the board you are posting in!
If you have something to complain about, it would be better to do it in the BrainKing.com DB if you can't get the complaints heard on the appropriate board (i.e. Tournaments or GothicChess). In any the case, stooping to even lower levels than the person you are comlaining about is going to do nothing but cause you to be ignored!
Maybe I should ask for a real feature request here and that is the ability to hide postings from certain individuals that I don't want to read!
Fencer: Can you add the tag [Variant "atomic"] to the PGN header of Atomic chess games? It makes the games work perfectly in the latest versions of WinBoard that happens to understand Atomic Chess rules (with the blowing up of pieces)!
Currently, I am editing the PGN files by hand and inserting the headers. It is a pain to do though.
1) I would actually prefer to see an "Opponents on-line" section in the margin to the right. In fact, I usually want to see it more than I want to see the "Friends on-line".
2) Wouldn't it make sense to make all of the stuff in the right option "optional"? You already have "Tip of the day" optional, so why not include a 'hide' link for the "Friends on-line", "Favourite boards", etc? What this would actually do is improve server performance, since there would be less lookups to the database to see who is online, what new messages are available, etc (if hidden, that is).
3) I have signed up for a bunch of tournaments... but I am having a hard time finding out what tournaments I have signed up for. Intuitively, when I click on "My Tournaments" off the menu, I would expect to see a list of those tournaments I have signed up for. Maybe this can be added to the drop down box?
4) Finally, when I am looking for tournaments to sign up for, I am usually looking for something specific, like Atomic Chess. However, it is often not clear whether a particular tournament offers it or not. I have to click into the tournament to see what games are available. I would suggest having a drop-down box at the top that allows one to select a particular game that would filter the list down to just the tournaments that have that game in it... Either that, or under each tournament title, include a list of all the games that are included. Probably doing both would help.
It would be nice if some of the other non-server based stuff was included on the brainking.info site... for example, I wanted to go look up some rules to Janus and Gothic chess, but the site was down... Can the rules at least be put up on the other site? I would recommend anything that doesn't need the database backend to be available on the alternate site...
I was just getting ready to post a message here about the fact that I don't see a count of new messages when there actually are new messages here! As I am catching up on the messages, I see a couple posts about it!
Anyways, just wanted to say, ME TOO!
So far, I have only noticed that this board has the problem. I have grown used to just checking it periodically, since I know something will be new and I won't be notified of it...
There seems to be a large repition of games listed in the "Waiting Games" section. Since it is now easier to create multiple instances of a single game (whether it be all the same color or of alternating colors), there seems to be a lot more games listed now.
My suggestion is to collapse similar games into a single line and specify how many of that type is available as the first column. For instance, we might see the following:
GAME EVENT OPPONENT COLOR TIME
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti white 7_days
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti black 7_days
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti white 7_days
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti black 7_days
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti black 7_days
Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti black 7_days
I propose that it should look like the following:
# GAME EVENT OPPONENT COLOR TIME
2 Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti white 7_days
4 Line4 Normal_game eddie_spaghetti black 7_days
In addition to that, when you click on one of those games and taken to the "Game Invitation" page, you should have an additional option that allows you to choose how many of the games of that type you would like to accept. So, if there were 4 games with the black color available, you should be able to choose whether you want to accept 1, 2, 3 or 4 of those games.
Thinking even further down the road, I guess when you are creating these games to begin with and you specify you want 10 games of that type created, you should have an option that says "[x] Allow people to accept more than 1 game at a time?" to prevent people from accepting more than one game if you want to play lots of people...
Anyways, just thinking about things... Maybe it is worth putting on your TODO list? I know you must have a lot there already :)
I would suggest a new section to be listed under the "Friends on-line", "Favourite boards" and "Felloships" sections... I would call it "Favourite Games" or something like that...
The idea is that I like to play Atomic Chess, for instance... I may not want to start a bunch of new games and wait for people to accept them, but I might want to play other people who may create new games themselves...
Instead of checking "Waiting games" section all the time to see what is there, it would be nice to see them listed automatically under the "Favourite Games" section when they get created and I could choose to immediately accept them or not.
