Sam has closed his piano and gone to bed ... now we can talk about the real stuff of life ... love, liberty and games such as Janus, Capablanca Random, Embassy Chess & the odd mention of other 10x8 variants is welcome too
For posting: - invitations to games (you can also use the New Game menu or for particular games: Janus; Capablanca Random; or Embassy) - information about upcoming tournaments - disussion of games (please limit this to completed games or discussion on how a game has arrived at a certain position ... speculation on who has an advantage or the benefits of potential moves is not permitted while that particular game is in progress) - links to interesting related sites (non-promotional)

Oops, I should also add that I didn't realise that redsales was already in a team!
And bwild, it was my fault, you don't expect discussion about cylinder chess on the gothic chess discussion board! My badder! LOL!
I doubt it. Thats ok anyway, I advertised enough at HOME for players, people just aren't interested enough. I was only going to play myself to make up numbers, its not a tournamet I'd normally join.
I respectfully disagree on that point, Thad. The loudest voices may want him removed, but many of the quiet readers would like for you to work together.
This may not work for you, but it could be worth a try... myself and NOT a floosie have an agreement that if one of us makes a decision like banning or hiding someone, the other person doesn't interfere. Co-moderators need to stand together, support and respect each other even if you don't necessarily agree with their every decision. Even if you only said "ok, I don't personally agree with that banning/hiding, but that was their decision and I stand by them". It would be much better than one of you banning someone, only for the other to come online and unban them. If you disagree so strongly, PM him. Calmly explain why you think its the wrong decision, then let him decide from there.
Thad we all make mistakes. Its easy to get fired up about a subject once you start debating it, and you have to respect Walter for admitting the mistake and trying to make amends.
If the problem between you is just the patent thing, I'm sure you can easily work through that and have a better understanding afterwards.
Thad, no disrespect to either of you, but since you ask for opinions... I think the only way for this board to 'come back under control' is for you and Walter to make some ground rules about how to run this board - preferably privately - and to stick to them. Right now people are taking advantage of you two not getting along. Instead of asking Walter to resign, work at creating a system that you both are happy with.
ThomasBarnes, I can vouch for smelly socks, he is not 'fake', he's just one of the many who read this board who normally choose not to post. Name calling won't help any situation.
Anyway even if you count the pawn accounts, 10 votes out of 11478 members isn't bad ;o)
No way can he be banned for removing offensive posts! Thats ridiculous. Thats exactly why he's here, to keep posts like that off the boards. The words in Ughaigbu's posts were clearly way out of order. I would have deleted them without a seconds hesitation, and probably banned Ughaibu from posting for a while too.
I didn't! We only started playing an hour? or so ago - and he got me in 18 moves! Shame on me!
But on the bright side, my rating didn't go down! Ha ha!
You can't create them in that way, Walter. You have to type in;
<ahref="address of website">the text you want people to see < / a > (don't use spaces on the /a part!)
But leave a space between the 'a' and the 'href' or it won't work!
If you're doing a link on this site, you don't need the http:// part, just do it from /game/etc..
Well maybe not ask them directly to resign! But if I was in a tournament and was holding it up, I would never know. I'd appreciate a message asking me to hurry it along a bit if anyone was concerned, becasue I just don't look at tournaments I'm in.
I had a look at the tournament in question, and I know that at least one of the players is extremely pleasant and friendly when asked to make a few more moves to help a tournament along.
I've never heard of estimating a game, but if its the tournament creator finishing games on their behalf - I think it would be more polite to send a short message to the players first. Once they realise they are holding people up, they may make an effort to finish the games.
Have you wrote to the people involved? They may not realise they are holding things up, and would gladly resign if this was mentioned to them. I doubt I'd realise if it were me holding things up!
Sorry, Ed, but I had to say it. I have little interest in gothic chess, but I always read the board, as I do every board here.
The way I read this, BBW offered neutral information to a new player here who didn't know what some of the posts meant. I didn't find BBW's posts insulting, just truthful facts. However I did find your posts about him insulting. Thats all I'll say. Of course you won't agree with me, and this is your board, but I didn't like to see a good man put down.
Now thats really not nice. BBW is a fine man and one of the few people who will give a fair unbiased view of BOTH sides. Thats what he seems to have done here. His character shouldn't be slammed in this way.
