NightWishes: If you have XP you can resize a batch of photos. I don't know if there is a shortcut but you can email the batch of photos to yourself and they will be all resized. There is a process to do this if anyone is interested I'll post it.
anastasia: me too..I store all my hill-walking pics in yahoo with zero problems. I use windows own image re-sizer programme (downloadable from Microsoft) to make each pic around 120kbs..I have my digital camera's setting at the highest to get the good quality and this re-sizer reduces them down without losing that quality.. plus it will do the pics in large groups rather than having to re-size each pic one at a time..
anastasia: Another option is to use the Yahoo photo albums to upload your photos to. It says it has unlimited storage and you can send people the link to it to view your album.
anastasia: if you view a picture on the internet you actually download it. That doesn't mean that you save it to your hard disk, but you have to transfer it to your computer to look at it. So perhaps Rose can fix the other pix for you as well?
BerniceC: goodness,lol..this is all greek to me..I just thought you went to a website and looked at a picture,lol...why would you have to download it? Rose knows about the size of my pics, lol, she fixed my dog's pic so I could have it as my icon
Nightstorm: but at 3MB per pic that would be a nuisance...better off learning how to reduce the size of your pics....Anastasia are you using a digital cameras, because if you are there should be a way of reducing your pics sizes...even on a scanner I think you can do that when you are scanning pics, but havent used mine for a while :(
***edit***
and Im only on dial up so there would be NO WAY that I would be sitting there waiting for 3 MB pics to down load...and you would find a lot of people like that.
Here is an article that was in our paper yesterday...
A report by the world bank has Australia way behind other developed nations in terms of broadband internet speeds.
Official figures cited in the report showed that per head of population, Australia's broadband internet speed was just over one megabits per second (mbps). The figure was significantly down compared with Britain 13mbps..France 8.4 mbps...Germany 6.85 mbps...Canada 6.8 mbps, and the united states 3.3 mbps, but was similar to Japan.
anastasia: Another option you could do is to put some of your pictures up on one web page. See how many you can have and if you need more space just create another goecities acct and make more pages and link them off your first one.
anastasia: And if your pictures are 3MB big, that would make 5 pictures. They would propably let you (I don'z know if there are file size restrictions at geocity) but it wouldn't be very satisfying! So you better compress your pictures by converting them to png or jgp format.
anastasia: that depends on how big your pictures are. But even if you would use all your 15 MB and every visitor would look at all files, that would make 200! As you want to use it for private purpose only that should be enough ;)
Rose: Rose,if I put on pics the same size that I sent to you...how many could I put...they would not let me over, right? Just want a few pics of my dog and the doll dresses that I make :)
Fencer: Yes, but that's "lazy spoken". Infact GiB would be correct. In original, 1024 bytes were stated one kilobyte because it is very close to 1000 and computers make it reasonable to think in powers of two instead of 10. But that is incorrect according to the BPMI, because the prefix kilo means 1000. So the compromise was made that 1024 would be called a binary kilobyte, short: kibibyte or KiB. The same applies for Megabyte/Mebibyte, Gigabyte/Gigibyte, Terrabyte/Tebibyte, etc.. But very few people use it correctly.
By the way: the 1.44MB floppy disk has 14400 kibibyte, which is 1.47 megabyte or 1.40 mebibyte.
Fencer: I didn't understand exactly what you want to say.....
Oh BTW i have to renew my membership. It expires today! As i'm too lazy to search my password for Paypal right now, can i do it tomorrow without any consequences(being removed from fellowships, losing games due to not enough slots, etc...)?
anastasia: I'm afraid Rose did not get your drift, neither did she actually visit Geocities to correctly answer your query :)
That 3GB is in fact the traffic that they allow you to have per month, and they'll be watching dutifully over it every single hour - if your page is too popular, down it goes and noone can see it again until next month!!!
The actual space that Geocities Free gives you is a disappointing 15MB - OK, it's not too bad, but I bet it looks bad compared to 3GB, right? :)

Fencer:
Fencer, Fencer....
1 GB = 1000 MB exactly!
It is the 1 GiB that it is 1024 MiB.
What is GiB? It's the so called gibibyte.
It is used to describe the actual memory storage.
For example all of you have hard drives that are advertised to be 200 GB, while when you go to your hard drive properties it is saying that they are only 186 GB. So what's happening? They have fooled us? No! It is just that the value we see from our computer via the properties of the hard drive is given in gibibytes(GiB) and not gigabytes(GB) ALTHOUGH it is incorrectly noted as GB. The correct unit should say GiB.
So a 200 GB hard drive says:
200·(1024^3)/(1000)^3 = 186 GB while it means GiB.
anastasia: 3GB means they are providing you with 3 gigabites of free space (3000 Megabites {MB}). That only means they don't want you going over your limit. Once your website is created you can get a close idea on how large your website is if you right click on the website folder on your harddrive (Providing all your website files are in one folder) So you right click and go to Properties and it will tell you size. 3GB is pretty big for a website so the only way you would likely use up that much space is if you put on a lot really huge file sized images with out reducing their size (like what I did with your doggy pic - it was 3MB when you sent it to me and I made it 12kb)
Hi..was looking at geocity about setting up a webpage, just to put a few pics on so people can see my crafts and doggy,lol...there is a free option but it says something about 3 GB per month, monitered hourly...NO CLUE what that is,lol...can someone help?? Will people be able to go look at the site and the pics with 3 GB? what does that mean?
WhiteTower: Hmm.. need more information. How are you measuring the snail's pace - time taken to travel 100m's? What gradient is it at? What type of paint? What consitutes dryness (is it not sticking to your clothes with a brush against the wall dryness or when it has less than a certain amount of liquid content)?
If you expect an answer you must provide complete information! :P
The last few days my computer has been running slower than a snail. I did one of the speed tests offered on the net and got, download = 611bps & upload = 273.78 kbps. It seems to be back to normal today. This has happened a couple times in the past and I always assumed it was my ISP working on their equipment but now I wonder. My question is, would this be my ISP or could it be my computer. It's a Dell running windows ME.
You did say that the cd writer worked OK when on its own cable, right? That means there is no problem with the cd writer, but with the way it is connected. However, WHERE you put the IDE cable to connect the cd writer may also be important.
I'm afraid that investigating this takes a few combinations of the relevant hardware pieces, so maybe that's what you have to do to make sure :)
WhiteTower: can this problem relate with mother board? mean , may be my mother board has a problem.i say this , because i change my mother board newly.
ali: then the dvdrom is too slow and its speed become the cable's speed, including any transfers from the hard disk :( Meaning, disconnect the dvd-rom and try it the other way:
- hard disk and cd writer together
- dvd-rom alone
WhiteTower: i connet hard drive and dvd rom with one cable and writer with another cable, the writer problem is solve but new problem is appear:
Now is too much time last to start up windows.
In fact my hard drive speed reduced. what you think?
Hrqls: thanks :) I have tried to reformat but need one of the letters it wont do for the reg code and also numbers.... I have only got Xp disc and the laptop has Millenium..
chattytea: could be that key then ... someone at work had a dell and had the same problem :)
i dont remember where that key was .. it could be on the same key as the print screen key or the numlock key .. or somewhere on the top right of the keyboard
i wont be back at work until the 13th, i can findout for sure when i am back :)
chattytea: what brand is the laptop ?
maybe he has an extra key like capslock/scrolllock/numlock .. this key is usually called 'funlock' .. it locks the special functions which are underneath normal keys
it can also be 'f mode' or 'f lock' or anything like that
