mine used to freeze in the past if i was using a few programmes that took alot of memory at once , i added more memory to cure it ... but therer could be a number of reasons to cause it
I have been having a problem with my mouse not responding, then in a bit my computer freezes. What can I do to fix this. I am not sure that the mouse has anything to do with it, but that is always when it seems to happen. It is so annoying :(
many office packages are notorious and load loads of
default-sheets in advance plus fonts that might be never used.
together with the anyway extensive simultaneous
program-starts when the computer boots up a torture
for the poor multitasking-qualities of windows (switchtimes about 100-1000 times longer than MacOS)
a nice trick for those who regulary work with a lot of
office-applications in one session is to start
those programs via the commonly neglected taskplaner that
offers a 'time-after-bootup schedule' as option ...
a basic option are programs like 'startstop' (freeware)
scanning registry/INIs for custom/hidden program calls
and offering a list during windows-start for a possible intervention.
if you type <a href = and then type a "/" immediately after the =, it does that...to create internal links. It is not Fencer's fault, nor his servers'.
Thanks Jules for the reply, but the Drivers are working, i can access data and the second HDD is set as slave (according to Manufacturer design) I think Aragon has the point, i'm making many experiences and so far i didn't get it right, but i keep trying... :-)
does the drive have jumper settings at the back?
I found an old abandoned comp a few months ago and stripped out the HD. I tried to get it to work, then after it not working properly and making the system go funny checked the Jumpers.
They were set to it being the MASTER drive.
The computer didn't like having 2 masters!! lol
http://www.bt.com/openzone/ , this idea is simmalar too but you use your laptop, pocket, palm machine and use the same idea (wireless) but the airtime is quite expensive , this must be new too the first time i have seen it .
I use it only when im out and about and need to get emails or check important things on the web (like my games LOL) and I only get charged a local rate call, and as i get 400mins of local free per month it works out reasonable :o)
Aragon: I think that Jason means something different. Bluetooth transmitter works only within 10-20 meters but he needs a WiFi solution with a powerful antenna, probably mounted on a roof, and a wireless PCMCIA card for his notebook.
Liquid knows more about this stuff :-)
Well im not sure about linking to your home network?? Most wireless connections I have seen are just like slim-line mobile phones (modems) that use microwave to connect up to the interent (just like a mobile phone call) but like I said im not that positive. I have a NOKIA communicator which has a wireless connection the the net, but really all it does is make a MOBILE PHONE call to an ISP??
there is no phone lines at work (empty premises) cost wise i would like to link to my home connection , this would be well worth the cost of buying the wireless stuff (if i could get one that had a good range on it)
wireless connection ? i know i can get them for the home , but is it possible to get a system set up so i could use my laptop at work @? i work about two miles away from my home
Hey i think you are right, now you mentionet it. Seems very consistent your explanation. Ok, i'm going to try it, then i give you news of my result... Aragon thanks again!
Sometimes, the auto load sequence runs in a different order from the Step-by-step sequence (although not always and its hard to find out). it would seem to me that when you load step-by-step yu are loading them in a different order, therefore bypassing the problem that hits the PC during autostart up.
You can however set the order in which the auto start loads the drivers. So if you took notes of the order that the step by step way loads them, then configure the auto-start to load them in the same order it should (in theory) give you the same result (all drivers loaded)
It can take a while to configure the autostart sequence at first, but it is worth it. Im not sure if the version you are using is compliant however, but if you check this link it might help??
Aragon thanks for your reply. Yes it was a second hard disk that i add, has my backup to first HDD.
And yes i put it as the slave on the primary IDE, the BIOS has no problem in recognition these second disk not even the OS. The weird problem is when i start the computer in normal procedure the OS doesn't load the controllers of the Boards outside the motherboard, this is the sound board, the USB ports, and the TV tuner. But if i start with the option F8 and i put it step by step with confirmation, then i got everything right. My no professional guess is the second option as a slow one, it knows where are the controllers and loads it, but i don't for sure, and even if this is correct its stil very weird...
Ferjo was it a second Hard-Drive you added? if so and you added it to the secondary slot (slave) on the Primary IDE cable then you need to make sure that the setting for BOTH hard drives are correct.
IE, the Primary Drive has its jumpers set as MASTER, and the secondary (backup) drive is set as slave.
Alternativley make sure both are set to auto, if these setting are in any way off-set they could cause problems??
I recently add a backup disk to my computer, and i put it as a second drive in the primary IDE. Now when i start the computer it seems it "forgets" to load the drivers for my several boards, like sound, USB controllers and TV tuner. When i make the start step by step from menu start (f8) all drivers are loaded, so i guess it could be the time to recognition the second hard disk, but i don't have a reasonable explanation for that... Well the solution is to make a manual start instead of automaticaly but i prefer the automatic start so anyone had the same problem and solve it? My OS is still a Windows 98 Second Edition.
Four servers that belong to the open-source Debian Project were
compromised recently. While access to Debian machines will remain
locked until members have cleaned them, a Debian software update, Debian
GNU/Linux 3.0r2, was checked for integrity and released on Friday
(11/21).
NO NO....your problem is..."Right click on your main desktop.....go to properties...click on settings...and mine is set @ 800x600...yours could be different to that LOL...it could be 1280 X1024....set it to suit your own self LOL
The letters in my browser window are now smaller than they werew when I booted and in fact they seemed to change in "mid flight." What controls the text size? I don't remember the settings being this small. maybe I hit a key that changed them??
First when it worked "now and then" i thought something else was wrong and not the router. Well i buy one and if it works then i know the answer ..thanks for advices :)
the thing that puzzles me is that if one worked through the router then the others should follow , i had this problem when i first set up my router (due to the mac address) i do loose the connection still sometimes but thats my isp going down , i have to unplug the modem and router for 20 secs then swich them back on this usually kicks it back in
