Bernice: I know how frustrating it is.. one year Dan was having to get out in the mornings and pollenate the squash plants.. I learned a lot that year..
I also learned when the plum tree we had gotten a crop from the year before didn't produce that next year.. it was due to not having a male plant close enough go figure..
Bernice: They aren't being pollenated.. if you don't have enough bees and other flying insects that would pollenate you would need to get a can of polenater usually found at your Nurseries and Farming stores.. it is usually in spray bottles.. if that isn't the case then you might not have enough male orange trees around.. funny as it sounds that might be another solution.. I know plum trees need the male tree around to produce..
Dan and I finally got the garden in today.. What a chore this year has been.. lots of good stuff.. we still need to pick up a few more things to put in.. jalapenos and green peppers.. along with yellow onions and some cherry toms'..
Bernice: It's a pretty little thing.. although, it looks similar to one we found up at the Ranch a few years back when we were painting the house.. I was doing the bottom section and the back side of the house where the basement windows were.. I jumped back the dang thing was huge for a spider around here.. Dan just laughed at me and said it wasn't anything to worry about.. then he came down to it and grabbed a piece of wood letting it get on the wood he moved it to another location so I could finish painting the one section.
Foxy Lady: Dan is wondering how many you have? and do you have both the Male and Female plants.. One of the species really doesn't do much but act as a polenator. I remember our neighbors had a plum tree.. we would get a good crop of plums every other year.. since there was only one plum tree around.
We planted some grape tomatoes last year in the ground.. and even though they were a fragile plant.. they grew and produced.. really good toms.. I think those are the same plants they have with those topsy turvy planters.. My mother bought them.. bummer she didn't water them regularily..
I think it is so kewl getting the stuff growing.. gardening is something I learned after moving up here.. it is a fun hobby.. and each year new ideas and new plants .. the rewards are awesome also.. I don't have the high prices as they are in the store..
I couldn't believe a 12oz bag of green beans was 4.95 at the store..
Oh.. I made a new photo album .. it is piccies of our garden this year.. at mid growing .. I can't wait to get some piccies in another month when everything is even larger.. the album is open to the public and no laughing at me! LOL
Bernice: Sorry your winter isn't nice to you.. our Summer here in Wyoming really hasn't been too bad.. normally we have been a very dry state.. or at least in our part of the state. This year though has brought lots of moisture and a cooler season.. sure it gets warm (last year 8 weeks of 100+) this year we started off cooler which helped.
it's been a rainy year this year.. and cooler.. really I have no complaints.. we need every bit of rain we can get.. we are pretty much dessert out here.. other than this year..
Our gardens are just now getting set to give us produce.. Tomorrow I will have peas, japalenos, lettuce, spinach and beets.. and brocolli..
Foxy Lady: Well.. our fall garden didn't make it.. only the Sunflowers.. I figured where it set wasn't good.
Our corn though is a good 3' high, our Tom Plants are awesome.. big, and strong and blooming.. our lettuces, cabbage, and spinach are all doing well.. and all the peppers seem to be getting strong and ready.. No complaints here.. Will take some photos in another month when everything is producing..
skipinnz: Too many for the window sill.. and the plants are in the garden.. I would have to pull them out.. maybe just the heat was too much to where they need the cool air.. not sure..
I have a question on cherry toms, romas, yellow pear.. most variety's of Toms..
How the heck do you get them to ripen up.. I have toms that are on the vine and I thought over the last 2 weeks they would have ripened.. my bushes (32 of them).. are bearing fruit like you would not believe.. but, they aren't turning ripe.. What can I do????
Rose: hollyhocks grow like weeds here.. not sure about your part of the continent.. they are a tough stalky flower.. and hard to kill off.. so no worries about that.. just make sure you don't mind them spreading over the years where you plant them.
plaintiger: I just added the http:// to her link but, it brings me to the same page.. it must be a password protected site.. :)
Similar to this site.. it would be like linking a fellowship message board to someone who is not a paying member who also is not a member of the fellowship..
best way to do this is to put *a href="*paste the Then">http://www.linktowhatyouwant.com*">Then what you want to call it</a*> and take out the stars.. so your link looks like this..
<*a href="*http://www.ahrc.org/*">Greenhouse</a *> just take out all the stars..
hehe.. I live in dessert.. and actually.. roses do very well here in Wyoming.. so do Lilacs.. we don't often see much fungus.. maybe in the climates with more moisture..??
We bought all different kinds.. I know there is one Peace Rose for sure.. (my favorite).. next time I go to the garage I will write down all the types..
ajtgirl: well I guess so!! LOL you are as bad as me and my mother.. we bought I don't know how many rose bushes about 2 weeks ago.. not waiting to plant them! LOL
BerniceC: they are good.. On Friday nights a friend of ours cooks up a gourmet meal .. and serves us at my brothers cafe.. it actually started last year when I would make up something for family and soon our friends would all come over to the table and want to snatch up a plate.. one day our friend offered to cook something every other weekend.. (She loves to cook and I mean Loves to cook).. well.. we all loved her cooking and just let her take over.. hehe.. anyway.. we have our Friday night dinner club.. but, why I am saying all this is because.. last weekend she prepared a full southern assortment of dishes.. Oh man was it ever good.. she had pork roast.. stuffing, veggies consisting of root veggies.. and she used different seasonings.. talk about surprising the palet.. and to top it off.. not only was it healthy.. it was low on calories and Carbs.. she also made up desert with a sugar substitute.. so calories are very minimal.. tonights desert was only 43 calories.. So our group doesn't have to feel guilty when eating healthy..
