Not a bonus fixation. But for going further in the pond, even without having any chances of winning it. They achieve more BKR points this way. It´s just strategy...

since we were recently talking about not being punished for bad bets. perhaps we should implore a punishment for excessive bonuses. some people jstu like getting bonuses. ive seen some get it 5 in a row. they lost of course but beat players who were legitimately trying to win the pond. So perhaps you can get a -1000pt loss for winning more than 3 in a single pond., it would make the end games more interesting. people would have to make there bets much more carefully and the guy cant jstu force the win with 5 people left liek many ponds are. b/c a guy might lose say 1000pts (or whatever number you decide) for getting another bonus.
I am surprised that no one has been moderated in here yet for being "off topic" for talking about the new multi player game Run in the Dark on a board for run around the pond ;)~
Before you do get banned, I have a fellowship that is for all the multi player games on brainking, including the newest addition, and all others that may be added in the future....
How exactly do dark ponds work? Is it just the details of the players which are hidden or are bids, points left etc hidden too? That's what I would call a NIGHTmare.
Vikings: Yea, not yet - but I was thinking of later. But like Luke said, it is also listed in the profile. So you can figure out who is in a pond with you, but just don't know which bet is theirs.
BIG BAD WOLF: It's possible to get this info from people's profiles as well. Would it be cheating to use a web robot to dig that info out automatically?
I've noticed that when I sign up for a dark pond, my own name still is in the list - well since the list is orginized by rating, and lets say I'm close to the top in ratings - I could make some good guesses on who else is in tournaments with me.
Hmmm.. No way to keep people out of these, obviously. (Like creating ones just for your fellowship... Which is why we need to have the ability to do this within fellowships! )
What happens in the discussion in these ponds? Do people's names show up there? If not, I worry that people will take that opportunity to say inapporpriate things anonymously...
Of course names may take away part of the "darkness".. so maybe there should be no discussion on this version?
Andre Faria: Well since you have no wins yet, it seems that your earlier strategy wasnt working very well anyway :) and looking at your ranking, it doesnt seem like you have gone out too early in many games either!
Before knowing that ponds would be rated, I was taking some more risks to win the pond. I fell off the pond for several times with 5/6 players left, ´cause I made some small bets, trying to get lucky and win the pond. But now I rather prefer not to win the pond and achieve an higher BKR... So I take less risks in my bets...
Yep, it was like Pedro and BBW said. In the actual rating system of ponds, I wanted to secure 2nd place more than risking and trying to won the pond.
Anyway, I think the actual pond rating system could be improved. It would be more fair giving some extra points, for instance, to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of the pond. This way it would prevent those who make high bets, with no chances of winning the pond, but achieving good BKR on the game...
Yea, Andre Faria was in a bad situation. And like Pedro said, it's very hard to figure out bets like that when everyone has so many points left - even though that is probable the first time I've seen the last 3 players all over 10,000 points.
