Many were one time friends and as much as I would like to drop a dime like they did I know that it would not be right. But some of them will tell you if you happen to get a game with them..and some will not.
I believe the advantage is a miniscule percentage point and really only comes into play at the masters/championship level. Some great players swear by white.
I played this bright young programmer on IYT and used book..on the 9th move I still had 8 checkers left and none of them could move wothout losing the piece. Everything looked fine but I was sandbagged. He has played in Vegas so he has great natural ability. In our second game he resigned with the board even so he just wanted to try out his program. Still in his teens I think. Awesome player.
I mentioned this because I have seen cases where Nemesis gives false positives. In theory if you are +40 it is a win but I have seen Nemesis give a +40 and then take it away after the opponents next move. And this was after Nemesis recommendation was followed to the letter.
Just one more question. What skills, if any, does the operator require? Does a superior, more experienced operator with a slightly inferior program have any advantage over a better program with a relatively unskilled operator?
Many of the top players on the gamesites use programs and the average player has zero chance against them. The chances seem to be slightly increased in Pro Checkers but it is still very very daunting. I knew a grizzled old vetran named Richard Fortman who could pretty much hold his own against programs but he had like about 50 years experience. Nice, great old guy.
Thanks for the links. It has been a year since I looked at programs but Cake and Nemesis were the top of the line then. WCC had just come out with a platinum but the highest database I remember was an 8..which was awesome enough.
Program vs Program matches are interesting but over the board face to face matches determines the real champ in my opinion. Looking at some of the old Wylie games of the 19th century before anyone could even spell program I saw some marvelous defensive play. I think he would have a good chance today.

Gothic how do you figure George Miller was able to defeat programs..at least at one time? His play jammed them up from a one down position. Of course that was some time ago.
Just looked at the checker ratings for the first time in a long time and I see the number one player is Nomad. WTG James. Poet, great guy and member of my fellowship and now the top checker dude.
Espie isn't it sufficient that you teach me humility on the checker board? Our latest game on GT was a massacar where my checkers jumped off the board like popcorn in a microwave. At least give me the satisfaction of being able to pick on a peace loving young lady.
LOL. Never claimed to read. But no modesty Espie. WAY UP on the IYT Ladder. We have played 150 games. She won 50, me 50, and 50 draws. She is one part mercy, one part apathy and one part sudden death. :)
Black is one move away from trading down for the win. I have seen people struggle a long long time figuring out 3/2 kings opposite double corners but eventually they stumble on to it.
Miller said his hobby was trying to figure out how to cross them up but he did say it was getting harder and harder and he thought he wasn't going to be able to do it much longer.
Mlller wrote to me and said he had a method of packing the programs moves into the left corner and actually playing man down. He said they couldnt deal with that and that's how he gets some wins. He aso runs a smother which most programs don't recognize.
I notice on Banks Ladder it is program against program and the operators skill comes into play there. But the number one guy seems to have figured out how to jam and cramp most of them. Way over my head.
I'm not in their living rooms but they lose games and that is the tip off. Free ones? You have my attention. But I don't think the teaching programs are webtv compatible. Even the top KM players make mistakes no program would make so I am taking their word for it. Some have up to 40 years experience which accounts for their expertise.
