Otsikko: and how long is an
Nice idea but space is space and an "inactive list" takes up space. I can understand having an "inactive list" for those who have not played for 6 months. There may be very good reasons why they haven't. THERE IS NO EXCUSE for those who have registered on this site over two years ago, maybe played a game or two and have not been seen or heard from since. Those are the users who need to be eliminated from the Brainking Player List....non-active players up until May 8, 2002 (No active move for two years.) Don't get me wrong on this...I played as a pawn on this site for over a year before I parted with a buck and joined. Part of my reason was all the problems I had accessing this site using a Webtv Plus during the infancy of Brainking. I still have some problems, but this site has made such wonderful inprovements. I finally parted with my buck, and I haven't been sorry since!!!

Why not have their names removed from the master list and moved to an "inactive" list after 6 months of inactivity? Let inactive accounts that have played games stay but take them off the main list and put them on the inactive. If they play again, they can move automatically to active.

One of the strongest tablut players is Skalpone, due to the situation at his university lodgings he has no internet access for at least this year. Why should he be deleted on account of this circumstance that's out of his control? And I definitely want to keep the eight or so games that I've played with him.

Star - Why? What is the harm of an in-active account sitting there?

I mean it is not losing the site money - it is not taking away the game play of current players. They are just names sitting there.

But will we lose their games?

Otsikko: PEOPLE....LOOK AT THE PLAYER LIST...
Go down the list and see how many pawns registered on this site one day, played one day and left two years ago. Those are the players I feel should be eliminated from this site's "player list"

I dont want to lose from my records games that I've played, even if the opponent has only ever played one game, I dont want that game deleted.

Otsikko: Re:
If you are playing a non-paying member and their games are current....No, you will not lose their games. I'm talking about getting the "deadbeats" off the player list....those who registered, maybe played one game or so and never returned to this site under the same ID

8. Toukokuu 2004, 05:52:02
coan.net
I don't see any harm on leaving in-active accounts on the site (Other then one of them might have a good "name" that another user might want - but if that is the case, i'm sure Fencer could fix that.)

Otherwise, if you start to delete account, you then have to check to see if they had played any games - make sure not to delete the games or the results for other players.

They take up very little disk space, and would probable (in my opinion) be more work to delete them, then there would be to just keep them there.

Otsikko: Re: ughaibu
I know Fencer knows who supports this site, but play isn't counting for a whole lot unless those who registered became paying members. Fencer knows all of this, but maybe it's time us paying members started a boycott and play only paying members after say.....a six month period of registration, which each member would have to check out every once in a while by clicking on a player's profile!

Otsikko: Re: ughaibu
I mean any players who registered on this site when first started. If you take those who have registered on this site and who have not played one move in over two years...It's time to delete them from the roster of players. If they should care to re-register on this site, let them pick a new user name and start fresh....two years without play....DELETE THEM!

8. Toukokuu 2004, 05:20:25

Otsikko: StarOfDarkness
Do you mean delete those who have never played? If a player who has played is deleted will their games be lost from the archive? I have various games with Danoschek that I wouldn't want to be deleted along with his no longer active account.

Otsikko: Site Membership
I think it's time for Fencer to delete those who have registered on this site and have not played within the last 2 years under their registered ID. That would be a benefit in two ways...#1 to Fencer and the current registered users knowing who is online and available or possible game invites. #2 It sure would make the sorting through "Players list" alot easier!!!! If those who registered and are dropped in the future....let them re-register and not be able to use the same name again EVER!!!!

Otsikko: Something I think we could all use,
Most of the time when I am setting up new games, it's not just 1 or 2 games....usually 5 or more..
I think it would be helpfull to have it to where you could add on as many games as you want, without haveing to go back again and again to the 'new games' section.

good point, after all, it is all about money.
If paying membership increases, that is generally a good indication. It may happen where one or two people may have two paying memberships at the same time but this would be highly unusual and would not affect the numbers to any significant amount to be regarded.

Are you suggesting that the figures reflect an increase in multiple identities and that there is no increase in actual individuals using the site? To test such a hypothesis only requires eliminating "pawns" from the study.

8. Toukokuu 2004, 03:47:31

but they can be the same user with different ID's and they would be counted separately.
For example, I know someone who has at least 3 separate ID's. These would be counted as 3 and not 1 by BBW's counting method.

Different users. (You can go to the Player List, and you can sort by "Last Action").

BBW-- those 1400 users are all different users? or the same user logging on at different times?

out of that 1,400 only 295 was paying members

7. Toukokuu 2004, 16:38:28

I would have to search back a ways to see when I last posted these numbers, but I'm almost positive they are now higher.

Users active in the last 24 hours - 1,400
Users active in the last month - 2,700

... having around 1,400 users active in the last 24 hours is a very big number to me, and shows how this site is growing in popularity

Stevie--i suppose it could have, but i didnt think about it :(
It seems to be a subject very popular and very lucrative for many people like Dr. Phil, Atkins, etc.. its always going to be a part of everyone's life.. and i think its a bit different from health and remedies which is probably (i havent been there to be sure) about illnesses, and such..

i hope the diet discussion board will be like a support group, and sounding board for advice on a common struggle of life

I hav found in the past that Fencer is selective as to who he lets have a new board, lets hope you are on that ok list LOL

Also..The diet one could have been included on the current Health and Remedies board could it not

<Speaking of discussion boards, I wonder if there'd be interest in a video gamers board. I know it's nothinbg to do with BK, but then, neither does poetry or diet. I figure, people here like games, perhaps they like more than just board games. Besides.. I've got a few FFX-2 questions I wouldn't mind having a few familiar faces off of which to bounce. ;>

Figured I'd bring it here to check the interest level before sending it to the FR board.

there's a new discussion board for anyone who's interested in diets.. for anyone wanting support for a healthy lifestyle and losing weight---Diet is the name!!

Otsikko: BK 2.0
BK2.0 will replace this one - All current games, ratings, tournament, etc... will continue.

Hopefully the user will not notice the change over - other then the added features, and the faster code that is "behind" the gamesite. (Which is why it's taking awhile - I believe Fencer is re-writing a lot of it so it runs faster and more reliable)

when this is up and running....will the reg. BK disappear...will we have to join that one too?

Yea, it's been a bug that it will sometimes show a + number, but not really be anything there.

I believe Fencer is re-writing how the tournament program works, so I think that will be going away in BK2.0

Seems to me this is a pretty common bug.. One that Fencer fixes when you let him know about it.
He has had to fix it for me once, and I've seen others mention it on the discussion boards from time to time..

thanks harley :)
but I've double-checked, and I'm only in 3 or 4, so it's not like I've got a big list to wade through.. and I definitely have no 2nd rounds or tourneys I've signed up for waiting to start.. maybe just some weird bug ? :)

Niki, unless your post promts someones memory to start a tournament or a second round, I'm afraid the only thing I can think of is to go through your tournaments again and double check them. I can help if you like, just send me a message if you need a hand :o)
