<Bumle, Bumble (in Rudolph) is an 'abominable snowman' so dubbed by an indecisive prospector who I suspect couldn't pronounce 'abominable'. :> (still reading ;)

Otsikko: Re: Tourney dates??
Ah that reiminds me.. couple things I wanted to bring up on tournament signup deadlines... One is I think this might, indeed, be Czech time (I have to set mine 6 hours ahead of my local time to get it right).

But.. the more annoying thing is, when you edit a tournament (say, to add something to the description), whenever you hit the edit page, the hour jumps ahead by an hour. Edit twice without adjusting it before submitting, you're ahead 2 hours; three hits, three hours; etc.

Just replying as I read 'em, so forgive if I haven't reached the reply yet. ;)

Steve (and Fencer, too)(: Some pawns are pawns because they only get to play now and then at the library or somesuch, and purposely set their moves to the max time limit in case they can't make it before then. (I know of one case quite personally, as I won't let her touch my machine. ;)

RogueLion: This is a good point. Anti-backgammon games, for instance. I've had some go on for over a year (at another site), and even then only finished because of a timeout. :/

Interjection to conversation: Personally I'm not sure I like the idea of BKR decay at all, as it will likely not affect the abusers at all. Like spammers, they'll just find ways around the gates. That said, what if only game types where none were in progress -and- none had been finished in the past, say, 90 days had the BKR affected?

Otsikko: Re: (establishing BKRs)
<So that when two unrated players compete (as any game would be on a new game) both player's bkrs could be affected. A couple two-game tournaments would soon supply a base of established ratings. :>

That might not actually be a bad idea.

Haven't really noticed anything from here.. must be a backbone/router problem.

I think LindaJ's program (whether original or not) is a very nice gesture. It can also help those who, though they cannot afford to sponsor a pawn on their own, could donate smaller amounts to the cause. I only have one question: How will the 'not be able to afford it' be determined? If it works anything like public assistance, pass!

Otsikko: Re: The cynics view
1) Having a computer connected to a phone line through an ISP doesn't necessarily mean you 'can afford it'.

2) Just because you can manage to struggle through #1 most definitely does *not* infer you can afford more.

Happy Happy, Y'all. :)

And 6am EST corresponds to midnight Czech time. The :20 is a baffler, though.

I probably could squeeze it onto a credit card, but the same problem remains with the money-takers.

Otsikko: Question (Fencer?)
I'd like to purchase a membership, but my only means of payment is a cheque or money order (probably US dollars). My SSL is broken (I'll get round to fixing that one of these days - 'RSN'), so I can't log onto the third-party server. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, BBW. :) Is that regardless of 'time left for move' on the games?

Otsikko: Question
What order do the games default to when you choose 'next game' from the drop-down? It would be nice if it when by the chosen order of your main page list. :)

If you could drop a note to my personal message box, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Lyth
