Carnie: His BKR is higher than yours so he should have won outright; the fact he didn't beat you and asked for a draw means points for you and points taken away from him.
Brian1971: You're absolutely right, there are lots of great games here and board games are classics, there isn't any need to constantly tinker with them and add new variants as those are often silly; I mean Ponds, really? I'm a huge fan of hyper-backgammon though, great invention. thechosen0ne who started this discussion seldom plays on this site but that is exactly what Brainking needs most, more players!
ThunderGr: Hi, no I do not have the 'edit' link next to 'reply' because I'm only a pawn. Same thing for the 'delete' link, I do not have that either, for the same reason. Trust me, I would have used these! Note to self, never play on a mobile phone again!
speachless: Hi, I always enjoy your snidy remarks. Unsure, ensure, insure; it's all so confusing but here's a fun one for you: Please trawl through my games and find matches where DC plays MF. Will you find one? Will you find 100? Will you find 1000? You appear to like backgammon and so do I, why not play a 5 or 7 points match with me, see if I need any help to ensure my rating. I started a second account on BK because I felt there was something wrong with the dice here and I wanted to check out a theory. I know of plenty of people with 2 accounts on BK, mostly active players. I'm not going to name names but imagine for a moment that all our accounts are cancelled or frozen? A game site can't function properly with only 20 active players online at any one time. For the record, I wanted to delete DC but Brainking doesn't give that option, just as it doesn't give the option to edit a post.
Walter Montego: Well that's exactly it, well put, Walter. The time control 'doesn't stop us from playing and finishing a game much faster'. It shouldn't. Time controls for board games were invented to maintain a good dynamic play, that holds true for live games as well as internet games. Now, had this website retained its early dynamism then all would be good but it didn't and I dare venture that it's the abuse of what are clearly over-generous time controls and holiday settings which one of the main reason for this loss. That's my opinion.
Roberto Silva: You have 10 hours vacation days left so your post is quite clearly about defending your own lethargic playing style. Indulge me, crawl back under that rock.
BGBedlam: Oh yeah, plenty to say about that. As per usual we'll both be heckled for mentioning this elephant in the room but who cares at this stage. My current findings about slow play is what I call 'ghost' players, there are more and more of these here these days (I'm only aware of those who play backgammon). I suspect they are given free membership then start games with a generous time control but only play when they are about to time-out even though they visit the site to make one or two moves every single day. It looks like some matches are being played but the truth is they last forever and that's simply not the way backgammon is played. I'm simply not interested in playing matches that last a year or more. Due to the above this website now feels dead, there's very little dynamism left. Pity.
speachless: I'm starting to really like you, speechless . [insert cute blushing and kissing emoticon which I can't insert because I'm a tight arse who can't be bothered to pay for a full year's membership (bring back the one month spur-of-the-moment membership option, please)]
speachless: I just read your heated rant regarding my innocent post in which I dared to question the generous nature of the BK time controls. Good Lord you're quite verbose for someone named 'speechless' (or speachless, but that's not English grammar) . I stand by my post and its tone, I simply expressed my opinion so keep your shirt on, it's easy to feel like a Ninja while sitting comfortably and feverishly typing on a keyboard with a nice cup of tea at hand. I hope you keep enjoying BK as much as I do and that you keep playing at the pace that best suits your capabilities.
Universal Eyes: If only some people played a little faster, there wouldn't be any need for Fischer's clock and we would all have more fun. Between Fischer's clock, weekend days and the ultra generous Vacation days settings playing here sometimes feels like watching paint dry.
