Tuesday: And you're sure of this because??? BTW, isn't your son in the military? There were many ex military in attendance. You have something against the military?
And what's all this nonsense about tolerance? Where's yours?
Glen Beck rally drew thousands. How many thousands? Some estimates have it as several hundred thousand. By contrast, Al Sharpton's counter-rally drew only 3,000. Even left wing critics had to concede that the rally was a "huge success." But the left won't stay quiet about Beck's success. As one blogger put it, "The many on the left who hate and fear Beck already, just got a jolt of fear-based adrenalin from this event. Their loathing and inner turmoil can only increase.."
Tuesday: How so? YOu must mean by exercising his Constitutional right to free speech and assembly. I forgot that you libs were against that part of the Constitution when it comes to those with opposing views.
Little-known fact: Obama's failed stimulus program cost more than the Iraq war
* Obama's stimulus, passed in his first month in office, will cost more than the entire Iraq War -- more than $100 billion (15%) more.
* Just the first two years of Obama's stimulus cost more than the entire cost of the Iraq War under President Bush, or six years of that war.
Just some handy facts to recall during coming weeks as Obama and his congressional Democratic buddies get more desperate to put the blame for their spending policies on Bush and the war in Iraq.
Otsikko: Another brilliant piece by Charles Krauthammer
It is a measure of the corruption of liberal thought and the collapse of its self-confidence that, finding itself so widely repudiated, it resorts reflexively to the cheapest race-baiting (in a colorful variety of forms). Indeed, how can one reason with a nation of pitchfork-wielding mobs brimming with "antipathy toward people who aren't like them" -- blacks, Hispanics, gays and Muslims -- a nation that is, as Michelle Obama once put it succinctly, "just downright mean"?
The Democrats are going to get beaten badly in November. Not just because the economy is ailing. And not just because Obama over-read his mandate in governing too far left. But because a comeuppance is due the arrogant elites whose undisguised contempt for the great unwashed prevents them from conceding a modicum of serious thought to those who dare oppose them.
Otsikko: Something smells....there's much much more to this story
L’Affaire Sherrod provided a rare peek into a potential legal and government boondoogle: The Pigford Settlement. The Settlement arose out of a handful of credible claims of racism by black farmers against the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Tens of thousands of claims later, the final chunk of money to pay off the settlement, about $1.5 billion, awaits action by the U.S. Senate.
Soon after Shirley Sherrod was fired by the USDA, it was revealed that she and her husband were among the biggest recipients of Pigford, personally receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars for ‘pain and suffering’, while their collective farm was tapped to get over $13 million. It also emerged that Ms. Sherrod was hired by the USDA just days after her settlement was announced. Hmm.
Ferris Bueller: I think Jon is making a point that perhaps you are missing. He's simply saying that making a loose connection between the Mosque funding and approval of it can be done with almost everything. In many cases (if not most) there is nothing to the association. Keep in mind the following: The Kingom Holdings group has large shares in almost every worldwide mega corporation including Walt Disney, Pepsi, Apple, CitiGroup, P&G, and Ford Motors. It's a global investment firm looking to make money, not spread religious idealism. If you look hard enough you could tie back at least a dollar to the Kingdom Holdings from every company and group in the world.
Also, Newscorp is a publicly traded company, do you know what that means? It means no one has control over who purchases Newscorp stock on the open market.
It's still legitimate to ask where the money for the MOSQUE is coming from. And where did the developer get all his millions to buy the property? He was a waiter just two years ago. And if the Mosque is going to be financed by Arab countries (which it is) then that information should be known.
No one is against a Mosque in the US. There are plenty of Mosques here. But they are against one being built in this particular location. It's insensitive.
Jim Dandy: I don't agree with that. He's at the front of the Mosque news and there are questions that need answers. Fox is doing the right thing. You don't get a pass because you're a stock holder. That would be unethical.
Jim Dandy: I don't know anything about him being a shareholder but anyone can do that so it isn't important. One thing is for sure: you don't get a conservative/liberal presentation of the news/events of the day from any other news outlet. It's not perfect, but it is the only game in town where you have liberals consistently presenting counter arguments against the arguments of conservatives. Clearly, Hannity is a conservative. But look at his Great American Panel - it's balanced. On many programs, Dr Mark Lamontt Hill is a regular contributor and he's very liberal. He always gets his full time to promote his point of view. You can point to any of the prime time shows on Fox and I'll point you to several regular liberal contributors.
Otsikko: Re: When everybody pays, nobody is "paying" for someone else, cuz they are also paying for you
Jim Dandy: it doesn't register on your gripe scale because you're used to it. We have a government out of control, huge spending and arrogant representatives. Plus our media is corrupt (except for Fox) and they almost always favor the liberal view. (despite your objections to Fox, they always have both sides of an argument presented. Even Hannity has a couple of liberal guests in each and every program. Interestingly, they couldn't be further apart on their views but they are friends too).
Otsikko: Re: When everybody pays, nobody is "paying" for someone else, cuz they are also paying for you
Jim Dandy: but don't forget the end of the article:
"They are probably right about the health-care system playing a role in this," he said. But there are many socioeconomic factors that may contribute to differences in life-expectancy and quality of life, including a higher prevalence of violence and unhealthier, poorer immigrant populations south of the border.
"We don't really know how to parse out the differences between Canada and the U.S. into better access to health care and less brutalizing social environment for some parts of the population," he said from Vancouver.
"So it's not clear to me that the adoption of a Canadian-style system, even if they could do it" would make a difference, said Evans, noting that eliminating third-party private insurers from the U.S. health-care mix would present a monumental challenge.
"Is Obama-care going to cure it? No. You're on the start of a long road down there. It's in the right direction, it will certainly help some people a lot, but ... is the U.S. health status disadvantage going to disappear in the next four or five years? I would bet against it."
Otsikko: Re: When everybody pays, nobody is "paying" for someone else, cuz they are also paying for you
Jim Dandy: One other thing (off the top of my bald head), it seems to me that it doesn't matter if what your posts says is true or not, it's still not up to the government to decide for me how I should live my life and where (and how) I should spend my money. As for the conclusion of that study, I'd have to look into it. I'm not sure there is any correlation between the health-care and the added longevity. As you know, there are likely many contributing factors.
Übergeek 바둑이: I wouldn't call for "doing away with " entitlement programs completely. Some people both need and deserve the help. I don't mind my taxes going to help the most needy among us. But we all know, or should know, that the US entitlement programs go too far. Pregnant teen? Not a problem. Apply for welfare. Need an apartment and can't afford it? No problem. Have a kid, or two, and then apply for State aid. On welfare but need more money? No problem, have more kids.
This is a reality. Instead of people having to deal with their failures in life (yes, having children before you are able to properly care for them is a failure) we bail them out. There are no consequences for such bad decisions.
We also know there is a lot of fraud. Money being wasted on programs that don't work and money being funneled to recipients that don't deserve a dime. And no one is doing anything to curb this waste.
It has to change. Governments cannot be held responsible for feeding and clothing and taking care of medical needs of all its citizens. When Obama became president, one black woman rejoiced that she'd now be getting a house (free of course). That's what she thought. Others thought that the money (in entitlements) would filter their way (thanks to Obama's never-ending pot of gold. This is a mentality of many. It's not, "What can I do to contribute?" but, "What is the government going to do for me???"

Bernice: If a person is capable of working, and they won't, they should be left to the consequences of such irresponsibility. It's my view that entitlements are largely responsible for the serious problem of generational poverty. I depended on me and what I could do to provide for my family. Even when I was single I would work more than one job. The only time in my life where I didn't work two jobs was when I became a teacher. But by then I had a savings to fall back on and while teaching full-time, I was also still going to school nights for my Master's degree. I grew up in a family of 9 so we were not well off. But I have two certificates from Vo-Tech schools and three university degrees. And I paid for all of it myself. I have little sympathy for those that say they had a "hard life" or that they didn't have opportunities. Neither did I. I made my own. And there are thousands like me - hard workers who take responsibility seriously. A bum can stand on a street corner for hours but he can't wash dishes for a living (I've done that as well as janitorial work and fast food work). Why can't they?
Otsikko: Re:It is simply a question of priorities. Most major nations of the world have decided it is worth the sacrifice of additional taxation, maybe Americans aren't as interested.
rod03801: Interestingly, the left has no adequate response to questions they are being asked regarding Obama's policies. Instead of answering the people's questions or responding to their concerns, the left simply vilifies the opposition.
I heard a caller on a radio program respond to the question about Republicans fixing things if they get into power. But the caller rightly said it's not Democrats or Republicans we need, we need public servants that honor the historical intentions of the constitution, and seek to do the will of the people. American's don't want to become a reflection of Britain with their excessive entitlement programs (which are failing). We need politicians who will seek to honor the rule of law, end the mad spending, reduce government control on our lives, and allow American taxpayers to keep more of their hard earned money. And we need to stop all recess appointments. It's been abused by too many administrations (and excessively abused by Obama. This country is about "We the People" and NOT "We the elite politicians."
Otsikko: Re:It is simply a question of priorities. Most major nations of the world have decided it is worth the sacrifice of additional taxation, maybe Americans aren't as interested.
Bernice: A friend of mine has a step son. He lives off the State. He gets all his medical free AND gets a monthy paycheck (as does his daughter who is 3). The mother of the little girl is a meth head. So she can't care for her own kid. The father of the little girl has muscular dystrophy. But he is able to do many things. He drives, has parties, and seems capable of doing many tasks. Yet all he does is live off the State. He was into drugs when younger, conceived his daughter with his meth head lover, and now can't deal with the consequences of his actions and so people like me are supporting him via our taxes. That is not right. He stays up late and sleeps late into the day. His step-dad is forced to watch the grandkid because the dad is too out of it! He is one of thousands across America with little incentive to work. And the State has no problem taking my money out of my pocket and giving it to him so he can sit on his ass and do nothing.
And get this: His step-dad and mom take care of him (he lives with them). They are actually getting paid as he is a ward of the State and they have become his licensed caregivers. So, The mom and step-dad get a monthly check, his daughter gets a monthly State-aid check, and HE gets one too.
Otsikko: Re:It is simply a question of priorities. Most major nations of the world have decided it is worth the sacrifice of additional taxation, maybe Americans aren't as interested.
Jim Dandy: I don't think this is the case at all. First, the costs can't be sustained. Eventually, something will give. Likely, that will be in the form of health care cuts, long waiting lists, and denial boards. That's exactly what's happening in other parts of the world.
There is no right to personal health care. It's not up to the government to force me to pay for your health care. I've spent my lifetime working hard in many jobs and I've always provided for my family. When we were without insurance (when the second child was born) we paid out of our pocket. We didn't beg the government to help us out. When I was laid off, I found whatever I could and I worked. I didn't sit on unemployment. And for a long time I worked three jobs. I wasn't rich or particularly smart, but I was a hard worker. I returned to school, received three degrees, and have worked for everything I now have. And my new reward for a lifetime of hard work and saving is that I get to help bail out failed businesses, support lazy welfare slobs, and help pay for the health care costs of those who didn't put in the work to support themselves and their family. That is NOT a deal to me.
Otsikko: Re: FDR's policies prolonged Depression by 7 years, UCLA economists calculate
Ferris Bueller: Health insurance rates have already gone up substantially nation wide. When taxes go up to pay for all these entitlements, you'll simply run out of excuses.
Snoopy: NHS is decentralizing and cutting care. There is rationing and this is exactly what will happen in the US as well. The Federal government has no business getting involved in the health care business. More wasted money. Every time the government tries to fix something, they make it worse.
Snoopy: It's already a done deal that Obamacare will end up costing more than was promised, and the deficit will boom because of it. All one needs to do is look at Britain's health care to see just how bad an idea this all is. I should not be forced to pay through my taxes, for the health care of others. I provide for my family and that is enough.
It will be reversed. It's doomed to fail as it has elsewhere.
Ferris Bueller: Not so. Economists know clearly that Obamacare will do the opposite as was promised. Did you not read the link? It's a left wing websiite and in it the DEMOCRATS concede that the deficit will not go down and costs will not lower. Why are you denying your own party's report?
FDR's policies prolonged Depression by 7 years, UCLA economists calculate
By Meg Sullivan August 10, 2004 Category: Research
Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
After scrutinizing Roosevelt's record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.
"Media Nearly Silent as ObamaCare Proponents Drop Deficit, Cost Savings Claims from NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias by Lachlan Markay
It has now been five days since Politico's Ben Smith published a powerpoint presentation created by an amalgamation of powerful left wing interest groups, conceding that two of the central arguments for passing ObamaCare - that it will lower the deficit and will reduce health care costs - have failed. "
**Isn't that part of the "sell" of Obamacare? That it would reduce health care costs (they are going up in huge ways) and that the deficit will lower (it too will go up!).
Jim Dandy: FDR was a progressive and it wasn't the NEW DEAL but the RAW DEAL. His policies were the sole reason for the depression lasting as long as it did. He didn't help America, he hurt it. It's a mystery why he is so revered by some. But likely it's because his image was manipulated by forces and they myth of his presidency being a good one persists despite the facts.
Bernice: It's bad and it's all on Obama. The Dems keep saying that Bush got us here but the reality is that Obama is in his second year and he's managed to put us more in debt and double digit unemployment. He campaigned one way and governs another. He's deceitful and anything but transparent.
Vikings: I agree. Unfortunately, with so many activist judges we probably need some more specific language so that there's no room for activist interpretations.
And I really think another huge aspect of the problem lies in the fact that Democrats are courting the vote with immigration and anchor babies represent votes to them. Not just the votes those babies represent when they become of voting age, but the likelihood that their parents get fast-tracked into US citizenship because of Democratic policies that are likely to pass (unless we change things). Those parents will largely vote Democratic.
The vote is the only reason Democrats care about this issue. They care only about power (this is evidenced by their power grab in Washington, putting forth policies in spite of the fact that the majority of American citizens oppose those policies, and the huge growth of the Federal government into so many aspects of our lives. This is the Democratic way. But they do it in the guise of caring for the middle-income and the poor. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Vikings: That's part of it (probably a huge part) and then there's the fact that he's not far left enough for them. Now that's scary. I didn't think there was farther left to go!
Filmmaker James Cameron Backs Out of Global Warming Debate HE Organized
He was told that it wasn't in his best interest to debate. This after much hoopla by Cameron. Even with two scientists by his side, Cameron chickened out at the last minute. That's because they myth of man-made global warming cannot be defended..
Otsikko: Re: Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.), the House GOP whip, has released a 13-minute video/mini-documentary about President Obama and the national debt.
Ferris Bueller: you're not concerned with such huge national debt? Eventually there will be 2 billions in interest alone every single day. You ok with that?
I don't care if it's Dems or Repubs, these irresponsible representatives need to get out of office and we need to put in those that will curb spending and limit government power. And Yes, Bush was a failure at curbing spending.
Otsikko: Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.), the House GOP whip, has released a 13-minute video/mini-documentary about President Obama and the national debt.
The National debt, from Washington to Bush is 5 trillion dollars. This took place over 2 CENTURIES. But, Obama will double that in 5 YEARS!!! He's doubling the government. And taxes will increase to pay for it all.
lol, Tuesday why did you delete all your posts? Especially the ones where you were insulting? hmmmmmm
Maybe next time you post something that is supposed to represent your position on a matter you'll bother to first understand what it is you are supporting. That way, you can defend your post if challenged. Just saying.....
(and you won't have to delete it all when you are shown to be wrong)
