One week away from the Big Bash! 35 have already signed up and this promises to be a Killer of a Backgammon tournament. Get a seat while you can. And remember to Take No Prisoners!
Also the game time limit was suspended for a while. If the 4 weeks he took to move occured during this time it would explain how it happened. Along with vacation days :o)
There wouldn't have been any "behind the scenes deals" going on. The person probably used his/her vacation days. All levels get some, the higher your membership though, the more you can use.
My understanding Damian is that if you are technically OUT of this tournament then you can send a message to Fencer and he will enable you to join another one!
I could be mistaken, but it is worth a shot. i seem to remember reading it on a previous posting!!
My part in a K-P Tourney has been over for 5 weeks. Two players are left, and moving slowly. I am at the mercy of these players and can not join a tourney that is giving away a free 6 month membership open only to pawns without memberships.
AT the rate that single last game is going, I will miss the signup date of this new tourney, since I am prevented from joining it until the old tourney is over. Additionally, one -player was allowed for reasons beyond my understanding since no one explained it, to delay his move for 4 weeks despite the time to move being 6 days! So with all these behind the scenes deals going on, I will miss the signup deadline/time for this new tourey for Pawns only! How is this right?
I believe to remember that the 'minimum players' restriction
counts only for the total amount of players in a tourney ...
i.e. not for the subgroups required to be generated now ... ~*~
I am running a Loop chess tournament (Let's Get Loopy AD's Loop Chess #2) with a limit of 6. There are 7 joined now. I am assuming that with the limit of six that once I start the tourney it will divide into sections of no more than six. I have it set up this way:
Minimum number of players: 4
Maximum number of players: unlimited
Maximum number of players per section: 6
Does this mean I need at least 8 (or 12 ) so that sections meet the no less than 4 criteria?
This is shaping up to be a fine tournament indeed. 30 have signed up so far and seats are available. Deadline is Aug 27. Join us as we discover who really IS the Backgammon champ. TNP
I've been making some "Fast Start - First 5 to sign up - Backgammon" tournaments (which I'm currently up to #18), but the first 10 tournaments are complete! (or at least complete enough to know who the winner is)
Congrats to the 8 players above - and all 8 have been invited to a Championship tournament. Good luck to you all, and again congrats to all the winners!
For all you Anti-checker enthusiasts and those who just enjoy a good challenge or those of you who just want to play more games.Sign up til Aug 7. And may the best woman (ok ok or man) win! ;-)
I want to hold a thematic tournament and was considering using the Screen Chess option. I found out it requires all the pieces be placed on the boad. In the first 7 to 10 moves pawns or other pieces can be removed. Anyone have any ideas?
I know a list of moves can be given and required to all players to follow, but that can be clumsy. If one player makes an incorrect move then the Theme is wrong and mess up. You then have a game where players have to abanded the game which can be sticky in tournament play where the tourney bot controls the issuing of games.
Something to ask Fencer about I guess unless there is an idea using what we currently have.
For example if a Thematic Tournament was selected then the ECO would be copied into the games as they were generated. LOL, sounds easy to say, programming it is much tougher.
Otsikko: Re: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
You know what i'm talking about SPIDERM4N. We've had this discussion before. I know you for one will accept any fair challenge and play against the top people. That's why you're number 1. But some players (not naming any names) will post countless games in the waiting room, but will not accept challenges from their equals or betters. That's one of the reasons why i started my Elite games tourney and no doubt why tourneys can now be set up without effecting BKR.
Like you said, at the end of the day, it's all about having fun.
Otsikko: Re: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
Rahvin, explain what you mean about being 'selective'???
Yes lovelysharon, games are all for fun...& it would be NO fun at all for a top player to player a bottom player, & vice-versa, as the game would be over in no time...thats what ratings are for, to play the players you KNOW your gonna have a great game with, or easy game with, mediocre game, or hard game with etc...Some people might get a kick out of winning all the time against weaker players, which I find strange, so being 'selective' in choosing your level par opponents for example IS the only way to make it worthwhile logging onto this site!
So compulsory tourneys to stop top players being too 'selective' about who they play is not a great idea....I'd call it 'logging onto here in my spare time to wanting a great fun game' rather than being 'selective'
Otsikko: Re: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
games are all for fun... i don't see any reason for imposing into people's lives and force them to play games they may not want nor have the time for... not all top players may be in the category of not playing lower rated players..
Otsikko: Re: re: BKR changes before tournament begins
Removing players that have dropped below 2000 BRK in my Elite tourney is prob not a bad idea. I know that the players at the top of each game don't like to play tourneys because they gain hardly anything for winning, but lose lots of points if they lose. The unrated tourneys are a good idea to encourage competition, but wouldn't it also be a good idea to involve the top players in a compulsory tourney, to stop them being too selective about who they play?
As a side note to my 1500BKR and under tournament - I also let unrated players join as long as they are not that good - so the last time I had a 1500 BKR and under tournament - I ended up having to remove 2 players that were already in the 1800 BKR by the time the tournament starts. (If someone has a 1510 rating, I probable would ignore that) :-)
As a side note about players rating changing to OUTSIDE the set range. In my 1500 BKR and under tournament - once it gets ready to start, I'll actually go through and remove any player who's rating is now over that (just to keep it fair to everyone else who has joined so they don't play anyone that is too good)
Even though I don't think it would matter as much for your tournament (since most "good" players won't mind playing a now lower rated player), it is a some-what new option to be able to remove players from your tournament.
rahvin666, you are correct on what you say, you can not add games or change BKR once the tournament has been set. If a player drop under your set BKR they will not be eliminated & will still get to play in the tournament.
Hi all. I've set up a couple of tourneys, but i needed to edit one. I wanted to add another game to my Elite games, but i couldn't find the option, so i set up a new tourney just for that game. I also noticed that i could not edit BKR ratings once the tourney was set up. Is this right or have i missed something? Also, what happens if someone BKR rating drops below the required level before the start of the tourney. Do they still get to play or are they eliminated?
Thanks in advance for answering these questions.
Yea!!! Fencer has added the "2) Private tournaments - only players invited by the tournament creator can sign up." option. It will keep my money being spent here!!! Good job and thanks :P
All aboard for this blockbuster Backgammon tournament which begins August 27. All are welcome and Seats are unlimited so come one come all and it would be nice for the Backgammon-lovers among us to come out of the woodwork and make this a tournament to remember. Just who IS the best Backgammon expert out there when the pressure is on? Perhaps he/she has never played and is just waiting to discover the game!!! No prisoners will be taken. TNP
This tournament includes ALL games - for players rated below 1500 OR unrated (as long as you are not too good) With the sections limited to only 5 per section, it will only start at the most 4 new games.
So if there are any games you would like to try (but too afraid of losing after 2 moves), or if you would like to play without playing an "expert" that will beat you in 2 moves - here is a perfect chance!
A great way to play & learn & have fun all at the same time!
You can remove yourself from a tournament before it is started. After that it is not possible, of course, because the sections would have to be recreated again and it would be too complicated.
You have probably clicked on "My tournaments" link. This page shows only tournaments that you have created (which is nothing because only Brain Rooks can create tournaments).
Yes, you have to wait. But there are two other possiblities:
1) Let me know that you've finished all your games. Then I will mark you as "eliminated" and you'll be able to sign up for another tournament.
2) Upgrade your membership. Then you'll be able to play more tournaments at once.
