Kipling: I don't know. Just did some experiencing now. But it's good to have if you want to put up a link to a brainking page without changing the visitors language, because the url also contains information about which language to display the site in. And the part of the url which is inserted will vary depending on the viewers language settings. But it will not work when you also write the start of the url (exluding the http part).

Hrqls: One way to find it out would be to go through the missing rolls and add up the misses for the roll after that, counting the misses after non-doubles twice. I'm sure someone has a quicker way to figure it out.

Hrqls: Yes, you are correct. I was only thinking of when you have to get off in the next roll. If you have more than one chance, then 5&4 is not as good as 6&3. Sorry for the confusion. :)

Muokannut frolind (29. Lokakuu 2005, 06:22:51)
The "I know the rules" was a reply to my suggestion to read the rules about gammons and backgammons, because the resignations suggested that this part of the game was not understood. Now that I know that he wanted to end the match as quickly as possible, I understand that the funny resignations (starting at game #1, where the 3-0 to 21 he gave me was wery unlikely...) had nothing to do with the understanding of the the rules. But to answer my misplaced (but friendly) suggestion with a hint about me cheating with programs is way over the line.

Otsikko: Cheating?
After this match, my opponent accused me of using a program to cheat. I believe I played pretty mediocre, but recieved lots of huge gifts from my opponent. What do you think? :)

ajtgirl: The number of doubles you roll when closed out does not affect the possibility of doubles later in the game. The dice does NOT try to make a fair amount of doubles which you risk using up on the bar, it simply gives you two random numbers from 1 to 6 whenever you need it.

Otsikko: Re: Offering a double question
Pedro Martínez: It's not a bug, it's Fencers choice (which is common on the other backgammon servers I play on as well):

(from the rules)

If a player is 1 point away from winning the match, he won't be given an option to offer a double because the reject would always won the match for him.

When a doubling cube value reaches the point where it would win the match for the player, the system won't show more options to double the cube value because it wouldn't make sense to increase it anymore.

Otsikko: Re: Resignation
I like the current resignation system, even if it requires making some extra moves to get it right. On dailygammon we often see people complain about people who repeatedly offer a normal resign when gammons or more are possible. That's not a problem here.
A possibility to resign the entire match at once could be nice, though.

Otsikko: Re: Doubling cube position.
On a related topic, I think the part in the rules about cube possession should be changed to something like:
"If a double offer is accepted, the player who accepted the offer becomes the possessor of the cube which is shown on the player's side of the board with the new value.
(...)
After the first double offer is accepted, the next offer can be sent only by the cube possessor ..."

5) No draw offers on single games
6) Showing the cube on the correct side of the board after a double has been accepted (sorry for repeating that, Fencer;))

I've looked around for precise definitions, but couldn't find any. But the jellyfish match format (*.mat) is very human readable, and could be learned by example. On http://www.nbgf.no/matches/ we have some matches in mat format. If anything is unclear, the matches are also available in html format with board images. If you need more, I'll send you some. If there is any situations unaccounted for, I'll send you some with those situations. gnubg is good for testing. And also for playing matches and exporting them in mat format for more examples.
