Otsikko: Oh-oh
Fencer...Sorry...I didn't mean to insinuate that you don't try to take care of us "customers". You do that very nicely. You have created a top-notch site to be proud of.

Most times you say, the requested feature will be considered or placed in your Todo list. With auto-pass, you just say you don't like it. This leads us to think you won't place it on your ToDo list.

Your last post makes me think that it IS on your ToDo list. If you have already said this...Sorry, I missed it.

What do I waste my time with answering?

I dont want my opponents auto-passing for me and that was Summertop's suggestion.

Summertop: You wouldn't believe how many changes I did only for WebTV users to make the site more comfortable for them although it has nothing to do with my enjoyment [on the contrary, it was very unpleasant piece of work]. Nobody can say I do everything just for my enjoyment. And I really don't think that such small detail like autopass would mean a significant change. As I said, there are more important features to do and until I am paid for it, I am the only one who decides what will be done and what will be delayed.
Hey, weren't we discussing these things before? :-D

Otsikko: Auto-Pass
Fencer, I too am curious why you don't like it. But the question I have is...Is Brainking purely for your own enjoyment or is it a business venture? In business ventures, typically the developer's likes/dislikes takes a back seat to what the customers want. The more customers, the more money. I suppose it could be a performance issue.

The more I think about it, the more I like an auto-pass feature that is enabled/disabled when the game invitation is created. It would be nice for me not to have to wait for my opponent when their only move is to acknowledge a pass.

So you like the idea of auto-pass in reversi then :o)

;oÞ

Fencer
The only thing I don't like is auto-pass in backgammon games. As it's already well known :-)

Otsikko: Re:
In that case, Fencer, I apologise. Someone on this db said that you don't like doubling cubes, and that's the reason why it isn't on BrainKing.
So perhaps I might be a paying member - when the doubling cube arrives!
Although I'm quite a good chess player, I am more interested now in improving my back/nackgammon.

Otsikko: Play test boards
Hi all. I don't know if this has already been suggested as i don't come here often ;O)
At the moment, if i want to try out any stratergies etc, i either play unrated/private games with friends or i use pieces of paper. It would be nice if there was a section where i could play out games by myself and possibly even save them for future reference. As you know i mainly play Spiderline4, but i'm sure this would benefit alot of other games, where people like me who can't keep it all in their heads, would be able to try things out.

I never said I don't like it. A doubling cube is in TODO list but there are more important things to do first.

Otsikko: Re: point system and doubling cube
Obligatory, but Fencer doesn't like it? That's the sole reason why I am not a paid up member! If that IS the sole reason. As a few say, if there WAS a doubling cube, which there ios in any major tournament, they would never play single matches again.

26. Elokuu 2004, 05:32:02
grenv
they play single game matches because there is no cube. If there was a doubling cube I would never play single matches again.

26. Elokuu 2004, 04:46:19
Czuch
But since most people play only single game matches, the cube is hrdly obligatory, isnt it?

Otsikko: right
iyt offers five and ninepoint games - but there are 21-points matches also ~*~

26. Elokuu 2004, 02:22:40
grenv
Usually a match is played up to a certain number of points, for instance first to 9 points. Gammon counts 2, backgammon counts 3, doubling cube multiplies the score. So a doubled gammon counts 4 points. Not accepting the double loses, but counts only 1 with the cube where it was before the double.

Clear?

:)

Otsikko: Re: point system and doubling cube
cube would only be used in a 2 or more game match, doubled would be worth 2 games towards match, but the match would count the same as it does now, once

Otsikko: Re: point system and doubling cube
How would it work with a doubling cube? Would the game count as two wins, for example? And 2 (or more) seperate bkr's confugured? etc....

Here, on BrainKing, BrainKing implementations are standard versions said Fencer. So is there coming a doubling cube for those of you, and I think there is quite a few, who would like 3 or more games on the trot against one person?

Just for the record, ughaibu, I agree with you that there ought to be a message board designated for politics.

20. Elokuu 2004, 08:27:57

No, it's just a bug in game engine, there is no problem with the database itself.

PowerPygmie
Otsikko: E-Mail and Move Lists
...over on the Atomic Chess board, that some of the moves disappear from the game record. If you have a long game, like WhisperzQ's, that you want to review, it isn't possible to look at it from move 1.

I'm guessing that the server automatically purges the database to make room for more games. If we had a "e-mail the move list to me" sort of function, that would make it possible to delete old games from the database entirely, and still have records of our games.

The same topics that you complain about would be on any new politics board anyway... But the good thing is that pawns could join the discussion.... oh, and I already have dibs on moderator :)~

Otsikko: Re: Crazyhouse and other sites
Well, since many of the games here are standard issue that can be found on other sites, I hope I can be forgiven for thinking Loop Chess is another implemenation of crazyhouse. It certainly looks the same to me.

I'm sure he know that isn't your problem.Maybe som poeple here on board want to show their feelings or opionios about (especially) american political situation....anyway this option will change my life, not closely but in some ways I think yes. But stop talking about politicians, it's not my problem. ;) truly said

Hmmmmm....maybe Fencer will make such as "political board" but if you will think about it...do you want to have a board for "everything"?...I don't mind and I think it's not possible.I can't say my thoughts in english but Ug...it seems like you don't have "your day"...just throw it away and tomorrow it will be all good. Life is so wonderfull so just live it......(maybe offtopic my last words).

Fine, but a lot of members want to spout loquacious on so called political issues, my contention is that such matters are not of general interest. I couldn't give an FFF who is PM in the UK or president in the US. Of course it matters to some people but it's not a matter of general concern, mention it once a month is okay but. . . .

Well, ughaibu, I could have been wrong, but it's the version I've seen at other chess sites like FICS. There, they call it 'crazyhouse' chess.

Or is that a different game altogether? It sure looks like the same game to me...

19. Elokuu 2004, 20:07:40

Here, on BrainKing, BrainKing implementations are standard versions.

Otsikko: Re: Loop Chess
Eh, I dunno. I like the standard version. Promoted pawns should revert when captured. You know you're probably going to drop 'em next to the back rank and threaten promotion anyhow...

Otsikko: Loop Chess
I have seen two versions of loop chess. In BK's version when a pawn is promoted (say to a queen) and then captured, the opponent gets a queen. In other versions, the promoted pawn reverts back and the opponent only gets a pawn.

I would like to see an option for both versions.

Can we have a politics board to keep all this stuff that's not of general interest off the general chat board please.

Sometimes people are thrown into a tournament with a last minute entry and have games with someone they just don't like. Then the only choice is to resign I think. It has happened to a friend of mine. But for a fellowship it is harder because maybe you have been in there for a long time and then in comes Mr. Toxic and what do you do? Make the Big Boss choose? I don't think that is right either. I would say just go poof.

It does happen, believe me, I know LOL

But it is not a bad thing....if you are not wanted, for whatever reason, why would you want to be there anyway? It is somewhat irritating to be given a lame, unfounded excuse for being kicked out, when like Stevie said, there is no need to justify it anyway. IMO, it would be more reasonable to simply say "I dont want you here anymore" than to make up some lame, unfounded reason, or excuse.... like " I have no choice, I dont really want to do this, but for the overall good, I feel it is my resposibility" what a waste of breath....LOL
