Otsikko: Re:
In that case, Fencer, I apologise. Someone on this db said that you don't like doubling cubes, and that's the reason why it isn't on BrainKing.
So perhaps I might be a paying member - when the doubling cube arrives!
Although I'm quite a good chess player, I am more interested now in improving my back/nackgammon.

The only thing I don't like is auto-pass in backgammon games. As it's already well known :-)

Stevie
So you like the idea of auto-pass in reversi then :o)

Otsikko: Auto-Pass
Fencer, I too am curious why you don't like it. But the question I have is...Is Brainking purely for your own enjoyment or is it a business venture? In business ventures, typically the developer's likes/dislikes takes a back seat to what the customers want. The more customers, the more money. I suppose it could be a performance issue.

The more I think about it, the more I like an auto-pass feature that is enabled/disabled when the game invitation is created. It would be nice for me not to have to wait for my opponent when their only move is to acknowledge a pass.

Summertop: You wouldn't believe how many changes I did only for WebTV users to make the site more comfortable for them although it has nothing to do with my enjoyment [on the contrary, it was very unpleasant piece of work]. Nobody can say I do everything just for my enjoyment. And I really don't think that such small detail like autopass would mean a significant change. As I said, there are more important features to do and until I am paid for it, I am the only one who decides what will be done and what will be delayed.
Hey, weren't we discussing these things before? :-D

I dont want my opponents auto-passing for me and that was Summertop's suggestion.

What do I waste my time with answering?

Otsikko: Oh-oh
Fencer...Sorry...I didn't mean to insinuate that you don't try to take care of us "customers". You do that very nicely. You have created a top-notch site to be proud of.

Most times you say, the requested feature will be considered or placed in your Todo list. With auto-pass, you just say you don't like it. This leads us to think you won't place it on your ToDo list.

Your last post makes me think that it IS on your ToDo list. If you have already said this...Sorry, I missed it.

Hi Fencer, i know you're a busy man, but any chance of answering my previous post. I was only thinking of a drag and drop board, nothing too elaborate.

Otsikko: Re: Play test boards
yeah, something where either i could play a game out from the start or import a current game or setup the pieces how i like to test different moves. this could work for any number of games(virtually any game that involves thinking ahead and does not involve chance or secrecey). i don't know how easy it would be to impliment, but the first part of the above, playing a game from the start, should just be a case of making the game into a single player game where i have control of both sides.(i'm not a programmer, so please don't take offence if this is more difficult than it sounds). as for importing games or setting up the board, i don't know how you would do that.
Andy

Otsikko: For about the tenth time:
The reasons why Fencer does not like auto-pass:

1. If a move is auto-passed, there is no possibility of sending a message with that move. Some players may still like to chat even if one player must pass many moves in a row.

2. If a player is new to a game, many passes in a row can leave the game very different from when they last saw it. Chances are very good they will think it is a bug in the system and we will end up with many many "Why did my opponent get to move more than once in a row? Are they cheating??" or "This game doesn't look right. What happened?" or something like that.

Feel free to argue with these reasons. It's been done many times before and hasn't helped, so I'll tell you know arguing with them won't help this time.

26. Elokuu 2004, 23:06:52
Kevin
I've posted those two reasons at least ten times now. So it's DEFINITELY past the second time...

26. Elokuu 2004, 23:54:13
grenv
Neither reason is good:
1. You can chat by sending messages.
2. The games in question are not affected by remembering the previous position. Besides, you can scroll through the moves if you like.

Real reason: Personal preference of the developer.

wont work grenv :)..i deleted my posts

Fencer, why dont you sell (auction) features?
Could give some money for a new server.
My startbid for auto-pass is $ 50 :)

Id say, why do you have to answer Kevin?
Id rather hear it from the horses mouth

28. Elokuu 2004, 00:20:51
Kevin
I don't have to answer - i'm trying to help Fencer. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to. But I think Fencer has made it clear he is not going to add Autopass....

28. Elokuu 2004, 00:22:49
Stevie
Dont then LMAO
It just means we get left behind the other sites once more

28. Elokuu 2004, 00:34:16
Andersp
Kevin, you have a lot to learn from Fencer. He doesnt answer when he has no answers or is proven wrong :)

28. Elokuu 2004, 00:38:17
harley
Andersp, thats because Fencer has 'customer service' people to answer for him. Thats what we do, answer the questions that get asked over and over again. Autopass is one such question :o)

How about a BrainKing social archives page? Detailing developments good and bad, for the amusement of future members. For example the rise and fall of KM with details of it's structure and the roles of it's officers would be fascinating, no real ids need be used.

Otsikko: collectors groups exist already - although not listed ... some give monthly prizes for odd enoughs.

feel free to write to webpatrouille-iyt@yahoo.de for iyt-bs, respectively webpatrouille-bk@yahoo.de for bk-bs ... a board for linguistic studies, though,
seems really missing. - where not only Walter could elaborate logopaedic impressions. ~*~

Otsikko: Re: Stevie: Very funny :-) Any other jokes?
I know a very fun joke:

Autopass = you cant chat
and
your opponent can be confused

very funny! LOL

28. Elokuu 2004, 14:12:35
Stevie
Otsikko: even funnier
Autopass = you cant chat.....

so for some reason you cant look down the page to see the discussion, nor across the board to follow the game moves?????

must be ever so confusing when you cant see it all on one page.....mmmmm other sites are like that where you cant see it all. But this one...its alll there, so how confusing can that be??

ho ho ho ho ha ha ha ha sooooo funny ....NOT

Fencer and VIP ...ooops i mean Customer Service.. are smarter (or should i say more stubborn?) than us Stevie so its useless to "fight".

28. Elokuu 2004, 18:15:13
Czuch
I dont understand the 'no chat' thing with auto pass. It seems like for the player who keeps moving it would be the same as taking one turn, they would be forced to continue playing until the opponent could move, no different than a single move, with no interuption in chatting ability.

28. Elokuu 2004, 18:37:47
grenv
Correct. For instance in checkers if you can capture more than one piece you don't capture one, then wait for a pass before capturing the next one.

:)

Otsikko: new request
I guess thats a Czech saying Fencer...whats it mean? LOL
Do you have to wait for your oponent to pass before you can change direction? ;oÞ

28. Elokuu 2004, 21:32:17
Kevin
In checkers a double jump is always one move. In reversi, one move is one move. Two moves, even with a pass between is never one move.

Why do you keep complaining about this? It really isn't going to help?

because the majority wants it obviously,
this is a gameserver, isn't it ? of course we
consider a switch-off option then, no worries ~*~

find the nearest brick wall and tell it. you'll have better luck with the wall then with Fencer.

28. Elokuu 2004, 21:58:46
Kevin
You also have to realize that even if Fencer was planning on adding autopass, it wouldn't happen right away. There are other far more important things for Fencer to do first.
