It is listed at the top of this board under "Features in development:" which I believe means he has already started on it. But if not it at least means he is planning on adding it :-)
Fencer, cool new(? I hope!) feature on the bar at the top with how many game moves we have. I like the way it counts down.
Is it possible to have a similar counter with how many moves we make in a day? So it counts up when we hit 'move' and resets itself at midnight?
It would be cool to have an "moved so far today" list somewhere (Like on the Statistics Page) - would make it easier for when I want to go for the 2,000 move mark!
I'd like to see the new number from title moved to someplace else. For example: "BrainKing.com - Discussion boards (Feature requests) - (39)". Or even "your turn in 39 games" instead of the "(39)".
I always have lots of tabs open in my browser, so each tab only has like two or three characters available for the title. Now i only see "(39..." or similar in the BK-tab instead of "Bra..." before. The new number makes finding the BrainKing-tab lots harder than before.
Title tag should be used to identify the contents of a page. Starting the title with a obscure number is hardly doing that.
Fencer: Your wife did a great job with those little froggies for Froglet! Any chance she could do the proper checker pieces too so the checker games and variants would be more esthetically pleasing to your clientelle?
On a game of Jarmo I was playing against harley she did a move that did not capture one of my pieces, yet the only piece that she had captured (that I hadn't placed back on the board) was highlighted as if she did capture it.
You could maybe list another, different coloured number next to the pieces that were captured on that turn. Like beside the green frog it might say "2, 12" meaning two on this turn and 12 total. Or you could just list the images of the frogs that were captured on that turn above the number of captured frogs box - like the captured pieces on every other game are displayed...and then the number of points on that turn beside those frogs.
I think it would be kind of fun, if each team tournament had a discussion board, only readable and writeable by the people in that tournament. It would be a good place to brag, trash talk (LOL) and report wins and stuff.. When the tournament is over, the discussion board would be gone.
I picture the link to the board being on the main tournament page of that particular one. (The page with all the teams listed and the scores) ... Maybe even a link to it in each game?
Obviously it would need a moderator.. Maybe the person who created the tournament? (That might not always be the best idea, though, lol)
I just thought I'd throw the idea out there. I'm sure others have ideas on how it could work..
Could minors (a member under 18 years old) have their monikers in a different color, or somehow noted? I think there are many reasons it would be favorable to know when you are playing with, and talking to a minor. There are many things which are acceptable behavior among adults, that is unacceptable between an adult and a minor. What made me think of this... I am playing someone with a very cute smile in her picture, I was going to comment in a flirty kida way, but then I wasnt quite able to tell how old this person looked. I do not want to say something like "hey sexy, nice smile" to a minor. Also, I can anticipate a situation where a minor will pretend to be an adult in their conversations, and that would cause one to say something which might be inappropriate if said to a minor ie swear words.
I know there is no way to prove who is a minor, if they lie to you when they sign up as members....but the majority of minors have parents who watch over their internet use, and I would guess that those minors would be forced to admit their age category (minor or adult)
IM, I suggested this once - slightly different reasons though! But I had it quite rightly pointed out to me that any kind of marker would also be a magnet for people who had less than honourable reasons for wanting to know who the minors are. I didn't think of it that way until it was pointed out, but its obvious really.
I think it is down to parents to supervise their kids anywhere on the net.
I would suggest that maybe you shouldn't flirt until you've talked to a person for a while? If they are pretending to be older than they actually are, it should become clear after a bit of conversation.
I think that if the parents are monitoring or if a minor is targeted by someone who knows they are in contact with a minor, that it would be easy for Fencer to report this to the authorities, and have this person tracked down through their computer and arrested. If there is no way to tell who is a minor, then there is no crime. For example, I have had people want to contact me on a personal basis, for me to give out a phone number or address etc... I have told these people my age, but I could easily be lying. Parents cannot monitor all the private conversations their child has during a game. and as i said before, if I do not know the age there is no offense anyway. But if I know you are are minor and ask for your phone number etc.... it would be easy to track me down and have at least removed from the site.
What kind of age group are you talking about, IM? I think even teenagers - if they try to tell you they are older than their actual age that you would sooner or later catch on and realise they aren't as old as they say.
Isn't this a game site? Let's keep our conversations somewhat decent if possible. I think most minors would be amused by your flirting (not in a good way), or not understand it. Just don't arrange to meet them in the park and I think we will all survive.
Are you kidding me? One cant even tell the difference between some 14 year olds and a 22 year old in person these days, it is a lot harder on the internet. Also, like I said, if they (minors) were marked, there would be no mistake, and as soon as one inappropiate comment they would be removed from the site, at least, and/ or reported to the authorities.
Is this the conversation you want me to have? (suppose it is a minor) Hi. Thanks for playing.... How old are you anyway.... No problem, I love this site , I am 20, why do you ask?... No reason, I think you have a great smile, is that really a picture of you? etc....
In fellowships, there is the discussion board and news board. When I add an article to the news board, it shows up on the fellowship's main page. Could it also show up on the discussion board's page?
Summertop, one way to make this happen is to put your news item directly on the discussion board page by using the "Edit" option, next to the name of the board.
I use that at Club WebTV. It also stays there until I remove it, instead of disappearing like the news items do, after a time.
That's a good idea rod03801. Normally I just copy-paste the same message to both boards, but to place it in the "edit" are is great because it will always be sitting there on top!
That is a good work around...Maybe I am just too Lazy :)
I don't want to have put it into multiple places. Puting it in the description will work, but I still have to manually add/remove it from there.
For Froglet, Battleboats and BK newbies the "your color" info on "new game" pages and the "game list" status page is a little confusing.
Neither Froglet nor Battleboats feature White or Black pieces. And not every BK newbie knows that "your color: white" is intended to mean "you are the player to move first".
I suggest to clarify this by renaming these pieces of info into something like "first move: [my nick] | [opponent's nick]" or "first moving player: you | opponent".
No, IM. It isn't the conversation I want you to have. Maybe a little restraint would be better instead of suggesting that the minor would be at fault if you hit on her. I mean lets face it, you might not only be chatting up a minor, but it could be another male, or an aged lady (or man) having a joke with you. It could be anybody. All I'm suggesting is that you save your chat up lines (and who could resist those) until you know the person a LOT better than, "how old are you".... "20"... "gee you're cute"...
see what I mean?
Sorry...I wasnt really asking your opinion.... I will assume that all people I am playing are adults, until I find out otherwise. If they have a picture with a beautiful smile, I will feel free to coment on it, if I am so inclined. If the picture is not really them, oh well, was only commenting on the picture anyway. I am not really hitting on anyone here anyway, I mean you are right, why would I do that when I will never know who am truely dealing with, what they look like , what their true personality is, or if they are even a female or not. Thats what makes the internet so great. I can be anyone I want to be, and so can they. Its harmless fun to flirt, or whatever conversation that is enjoyable. You could be a 90 year old woman, with a picture of yourself at 21. You may get a kick out of me flrting with you, something you havent enjoyed in a long time. It hurts no one to do that. You think I am gonna send you an airline ticket to come visit me? LOL
Look it was just a suggestion that felt would be good. Others think it would atract more weirdos or whatever, I ay it would be a way to discover the weirdos. It doesnt matter. If someone doesnt like me calling their smile cute, well, thwey can tell me to stop talking to them or dont play with me anymore....
Graphics seem to be being made for all these new games, some look pretty tricky yet checkers is always left behind and people are still being put off becoming members of BK because of the pawns.
Yes, but others have worked on checker pieces as far as I am aware and sent them to fencer, yet nothing was done to my knowledge. It is common sense to rectify this minor problem to tempt more checker players into BK.
Fencer, how about a way to sort waiting tournaments by days per move. It's easier to skip over the ridiculous 12 and 21 day per move tourneys if they're at the bottom of the list.
I think even better would be to allow the user an option of sorting any way they wish.
The current way is quite handy also at times depending on preference so if the user has a sorting option, this would be preferable
