Otsikko: Re: notation addition
Walter Montego: Correct about the drawback, e.g. N(B1)-N3. It's much easier to read though in my opinion. If I have to play it out on a board I'm very slow with the algebraic notation.

Everything is notated from the player's point of view;

So K1 is e1 for white and e8 for black. KB3 is King Bishop's third, or f3 for white and f6 for black.

P=Pawn, N=Knight etc (rest is obvious).
- = move
X = capture

example.
e4 e5
Nf3 Nc6
Bb5

would be
P-K4 P-K4
N-KB3 N-QB3
B-B5

note that it is NOT B-QB5, since B-KB5 is not possible therefore there is no ambiguity.

I think 0-0 and 0-0-0 is fine for castling, and + is fine for check.

Need any more?

i think that's much easier as well, though i rememeber all caps, so P-K4 and R-N3 etc. I remember the old Kt-B4 as well (lol), but I think N is better for a knight.

So I second the vote.

Otsikko: Re: These obnoxious posts
Walter Montego: Walter, I think your idea is a good one, but you have to lighten up a little. in the context of the messages leading up o it, Bruno's post was quite brilliantly timed I think.

Otsikko: Re: Privacy
danoschek: Whatever the reason for using cloak is, it is nothing to do with privacy. That is handled by the fact that the usernames are anonymous.
If anyone can prove me wrong by messaging me my SSN or address or some other private information go ahead.

Otsikko: Re: Privacy
Fencer: Even so, privacy in it's legal and only really important sense, applies to such things as financial data and personal information such as addresses and phone numbers.

The fact that I know that some anonymous person with a brainking username of Mongoloid is browsing a discussion board is NOT a privacy issue, it is an insane paranoia issue.

Otsikko: Re: Re:
Czuch Chuckers: I think it's a good point though. My kids certainly haven't been permanently damaged by the odd word that others are offended by. In fact I've always found that certain adults are far more affected than kids.

By the way I'm offended by the mention of praying, could a moderator please remove all references to deities?

What we need is a board which groups related posts, that way threads could continue as long as we like.

That, I believe, is a feature request.

Otsikko: Re: A feature request
Walter Montego: THis is feature requests. It was posted previously on Feature Discussions. Perhaps the discussion could move there where my posts won't be deleted quite so quickly.

Well I've played quite a lot of games and made quite a lot of posts on various boards and nobody has said anything to me that bothers me, or even made reference to what I was doing.
I guess I'm just not a good target for harrassment or something?

Anyone taking the time to actually activate "cloak mode" is paranoid about something. What is it?

13. Toukokuu 2005, 21:33:46

Who cares? Just play the games and forget about the cloak and dagger nonsense.

Otsikko: Re: Battelboat "Ducks" !?

Fencer: I agree. I think I speak for many when I say pro-backgammon is a higher priority than organizing the home page of people who play too many games!
Maybe even fixing the BG bug would be considered?

Clearly the feature request is to NOT have to continually use the back button. Else I didn't understand, but I find that hard to believe

Otsikko: Re: "WORLD CHAMPION"
rod03801: One section. Ties wouldn't be that common in 16 player group, but if so: Co-champion.

Otsikko: Re: "WORLD CHAMPION"
pauloaguia: Hence one round only, top of table wins.

1 day per move with vacation might work. One tournament start per 6 months, top 16 established ratings that have played a move in last month qualify.

How's that?

grenv
Otsikko: Re: "WORLD CHAMPION"
Muokannut grenv (23. Huhtikuu 2005, 15:11:42)
ClayNashvilleTn: I disagree that top BKR = champion (and I am/have been top in some). Main reason is people leaving site with large BKR etc etc.

Instead I think BK should sponsor one tournament in every game, inviting top 16. This could be done once a quarter or so.

However, I think in order to complete, we need to have one round only (like a swiss competition) and 1-2 days per move with no vacation.

Otsikko: Re: Conditional Moves
EdTrice: I've also seen where you suggest a line and if the opponent agrees you fast forward the whole line.

Otsikko: Re: too much time for vacations
So if the game has a 3 day limit and you went on vacation after 2 days, when you come back there is still only one day left. This is how autovac should work.

Also autovac shouldn't be allowed if the player has logged in that day in my opinion, that invalidates the reason (emergency etc). If you're playing too many games timeouts are a fact of life.

Otsikko: Re: Tournaments
BIG BAD WOLF: Good idea, except that normally 1 plays 4, 2 plays 3.

7. Huhtikuu 2005, 16:48:02

ON the subject of final rounds, I would like to be able to choose the method. For instance 3 wins is unfair to black in some games, so here 2 or 4 games may be fairer, or play consecutive games with a split leading to another round (much quicker to play the games concurrently).

6. Huhtikuu 2005, 15:38:20

Otsikko: Re: Multi-game tournaments.
AbigailII: You have my vote too. For what it's worth.

Ummm. what? Que?

My opponent seems to have been rated correctly, but I should have lost points by splitting the games against an opponent rated below me. Both our ratings were well established.

5. Huhtikuu 2005, 22:35:55
grenv
Otsikko: ratings anomoly
I'd like to know why this happens. I lost and then won against an opponent rated more than 200 points lower than me, yet I ended up better off than before. As did my opponent! ???

here they are

sLaMdAnCe is the winner.

sLaMdAnCe: old BKR = 1725, new BKR = 1760 (+35)
grenv: old BKR = 1992, new BKR = 1975 (-17)

Game type: Hyper Backgammon

You are the winner.

grenv: old BKR = 1975, new BKR = 1994 (+19)
sLaMdAnCe: old BKR = 1760, new BKR = 1727 (-33)

Game type: Hyper Backgammon

Otsikko: Re: Fisher style time controls.
AbigailII: schemingmind.com has 5 days + 12 hours per move. This is plenty of time in my opinion. In fact I'd rather it was 1 day + 6 hours per. How about making it configurable?

Otsikko: Re: Dark Halma
Daniel Snyder: BBW is correct, the rules as described by you wouldn't make for a true dark game.

This might work: Only show opps pieces if you can jump them. Don't show opps moves at all.

29. Maaliskuu 2005, 21:09:32

COuld you add a "move and go to the next game against grenv" option.

That should speed up my games a little.

Otsikko: Re: timed out/resigned games
Hrqls: The problem with that logic is that those players you know you can't beat are probably rated way higher than you (else how do you know?). This means that losing against them won't affect your BKR anyway. Winning against low rated players doesn't help your rating.

Otsikko: Re: timed out/resigned games

mine too. And my opponent has been online almost every day, but hasn't made a move in about a month. ?!?!?

27. Maaliskuu 2005, 23:59:26

No, we're talking about that number of vacation days, not the amount of time on individual games. If he gets to 0 vacation days he shouldn't get autovac.

His time on the games ticked over yesterday, but he still has 21 days of vacation left. These games will never end!!!!!
