 Feature requests

Do you miss something on BrainKing.com and would you like to see it here? Post your request into this board!
If there is a more specific board for the request, (i.e. game rule changes etc) then it should be posted and discussed on that specific board.

A small, yet very useful request

Every Discussion Board gets a different ammount of posts. Yet for example if you have yours set to 10 messages, and the board has 28, you have to start counting etc..etc.. Yes, the easy answer is to set it to display 50 posts

Well, PLEASE (either here) or in the new brainking, can we have an option "Show New Posts Only" please Fencer

Is what i like already is the real time concept that you mention. I think that needs to be built into brainking as soon as possible for a multidude of games

I (and Rod when he has time lol) am compiling a list of ALL (well, most) Feature requests, so they can be discussed MAYBE in time for BrainKing 3.0

nodnarbo: Personally i think its sounds a good game. As i was reading i was wandering about what you mentioned further down, should the piece wearing the Armour, be known or not.

I would say no, even with the check position happening, this should just make you think more

Sounds good to me.

AbigailII:Have to agree with some of the boring games that are just implemented here. I think someone should go back through Feature requests and collate any games that have been asked for or created suggestions. Then maybe one a week, a game could be discussed and even polled for.

That would at least find what people prefer, whether it is implemented or not

Otsikko: Last one this week (promise)
On our Fellowships Matches page we have the following headings:

all(568) open(24) waiting(0) running(58) finished(486)

When you get a moment Fencer any chance you could add a couple of things:

all(568) open(24) waiting(0) running(58) finished(486 - Won 300,Lost 100,Drawn 86)

Or if that is a problem an extra Column:

Name Opponent Team size Game type Match type Time control Creator Result W/L/D

Doing it the second way, it would also be nice to then be able to sort by column headings then so WINS / LOSSES / DRAWS would all be grouped

Either of these ways would be so helpful

I used to keep track of Matches and Tournaments to let the Fellowship know how we are doing, but there are so many running now it is getting hard.

The BIG problem is only the Captain knows when one is finished, maybe the BB should get told as well.
It takes so long to sort Teams and encourage people to play in Matches & Tournaments, it would be nice to be able to show them its appreciated

Oh look, me again
Well we need to have reminders now & again, but saying that this is just a small request.

Could we have some sort of search option (or sort by name option) in Fellowships to find a player in the members list. This may be a trivial thing for small Fellowships, but when you have a lot of members it can be quite a task

And thinking about it, how nice a REMOVE button beside each player to remove them from a Fellowship, i must have 30+ that are no longer here.....will take ages the other way

Going back to my games now lol

I am sure this was asked for ages ago, but i will try again as its such a simple thing.

We have a preview button for Discussion Boards & Messages, could we please have one for when editing the top of a Discussion Board.

It would be so useful, rather than having to edit, and come back out to see what its like & then go back in all the time

Otsikko: Re: Idea for a new game!
Teachme2play: I think wetware means the rules you mention below are the same as out Connect6 rules here. The only difference is you have to make 6 in a row, instead of 4

RULES: Black player starts the game and places one black piece at any intersection on the board. After this initial move is done, each player places two pieces at any empty intersection per move. The meaning of the initial single-piece move of the black player is to reduce the starting player advantage.

Otsikko: Re: Single elimination tournaments
coan.net: Agreed, that is how i imagine it

For example, in a 64 player Elimination, only 50 enter, players 51 to 64 are called Fake (BYES or whatever) then they first are placed equally throughout the first round draw. Then the entries are placed.

If you are lucky to get drawn against a Fake player, you go through to the next round. So simple

Its the most major thing the site is missing

Undertaker.: Thats is the only other way to do it

We have been asking Fencer to allow Byes for a long time, then everyone would get to play. Its so sad when Tournaments get deleted when they are just a few players short.

Its quite simple to do, but alas we keep waiting and hoping that Fencer will get time one day to code it

Otsikko: Behemoth 10x10
The new 10x10 version of Dice Chess is great Fencer, and as you said when you released it unlike the normal version it cannot be over in 4 moves. Its now much more fun

Thinking along the same lines, Behemoth Chess can be over before you get you SECOND go, how about doing something similar with that ?

Maybe spread the Kings out a bit, as long as there is at least 4 squares between them, so the Behemoth can not wipe you out before you have a chance to move one lol. Maybe 2 kings would work

Just another idea anyway, i like the Behemoth, nice to have a third player as such

Just a thought Fencer, in Checkers (well i think all versions & Camelot) if a piece has to jump a particular piece and more, the system does it for you

Would it be possible to have a reminder message sent to the relevant Team captain (or Big Boss) 24 hours before a Team Tournament is about to start, so they can enter there Team (if not entered already of course).

Would be so helpful

I think we need a foyer or something similar for players who are looking for others to play a game of poker. You often see people observing rooms that are empty, just waiting for an opponent or you get players pop into a room to leave a message about starting another game at another table etc... there is no where for anyone to post a message about looking for a game without checking every room that may have a player in.

I will think more about this.....ideas welcome

Fencer: When looking through Team Tournaments myself (and another) asked for some changes to make sifting through Teams & Tournament players easier. Please consider them if you have not already (see below)

If its no, could you at least provide a direct link from the Team Tournaments (as in where you enter a Team) page to the relevant Team in the Fellowship.

At present we have:Your team: Monkeys Swinging Madhouse but that is only there if i am in a Team. A link just for Big Bosses to click on would be so useful when trying to sort Teams out

(previous idea Feature requests (MadMonkey, 2009-02-21 13:02:22) , they would be great)

When we get the option to edit a created tournament could we have the following option added please.

For games with a random start position generate
* the same position with all opponents
* a random position with each opponent

I recently set a Knight Fight Tournament up, and it was pointed out to me i had not checked the right box, but i was not allowed to edit it, so now all games are the same. Its only a practice for the Team Tournament coming so not greatly important this time, but would be normally

El Cid: Yes, was me

As a Big Boss i need to know which Tournaments my Fellowship has Teams already signed up for (whether i am in them or not) without having to open each Tournament. Thats the main issue.

As you say, a dot to show which Tournaments we are Captains of a Team in as well would be good.

coan.net: On a totally different subject that you lightly touched there. The BIG problem we have here is we all (including Fencer i am sure) want the site to grow and improve, but Fencer is only one person, he has a job and a life.

My Feature Request is not a Feature at all, but a person is needed. I think what we need is someone who can help Fencer with writing the code, making improvements & helping design games etc......

In my opinion that what is needed here more than anything, then maybe some of the great Feature requests, Game Requests & Bugs would get sorted sooner rather than when ever Fencer can squeeze them in

Undertaker.: On the same sort of subject, i am playing in the latest Backgammon Team Tournament (5 points match with doubling cube), and it states in the games that AUTO-PASS is being used.

Why does this not work when i have a piece off the board (on the bar) and all 6 points are covered so i can not get back on, BUT i still have to roll the dice

Just a little something for the weekend Fencer.

Would it be possible (well i know everything is lol) but when we get a Team Match finished message through. Could you add the Team position to it please.

e.g.
Monkeys Swinging Madhouse: old BKR = 1152, new BKR = 1214 (+62) ..... HERE
NULOVÁ ŠANCE: old BKR = 1116, new BKR = 1052 (-64) ..... HERE

This would also be nice in just normal game over messages. Would save having going to Ratings and tracking the one down you want

Just to agree with a couple of posts further down, and one i requested a while ago now.

diogenysos: It is sad but true as the saying goes

I just think it would be nice to stay up to date with things going on all about the world. When i am work i have brainking on all the time, and as i have to wait for the phone to ring or a driver to call in i rarely have the tv on and also as it is a work pc i can not modify Firefox the way mine is at home (with RSS reader and toolbar, so the news is always there).

It would be a common interest board (as in the Politics Board) for everyone

16. Tammikuu 2009, 01:40:03
MadMonkey
Otsikko: World News
I just had a thought. Its funny how many of us spend so much time on brainking (and other sites) we miss what is going on in the world around us. I have been at work an hour now, and was on my PC at home for a few hours before that.
Now one of our customers has just told me about the plane crash in the Hudson river, that i had heard nothing about until now.

Hence my request, we have discussion boards for everything else (virtually) here, how about one for World News

I know we have General, but when you read some of the stuff that ends up on there, you just do not bother going there. Anyway, i think its a nice & useful idea to keep us in touch with the real world

On our Fellowship ---> Matches tab we can see you many games we have completed

Can we have a link or something that without going through and counting manually we can see how many we have Won / Lost / Drawn please Fencer, just so we can keep the Fellowship informed. I was doing it manually until we got to about 300 matches, but its easy to get lost, especially as only Team Captains get told about results.

(would be nice if the Big Boss got a message on all Team results as well .....wooohooo 4 days into new year before my first request lol)

4. Tammikuu 2009, 13:04:26

Otsikko: Re: Tournament team members
El Cid: I second and third that lol. The amount of times i have entered Team Tournaments (or Captains have) just to find they do not play here any more drives me crazy.

The first big help would be on the page that you sign a team up for a Tournament that anyone who has not been here for a month (hence in grey now) that they do not show up on that page. that would be a start.

Of course a better thing would be able to substitute a player IF that player has not made a move in a game. Also be be helpful if a Team manages to get through to a second round, and finds one of there Team have left, they could replace them

Just a small thing Fencer, and i think(well hope lol) very easy to add

I know many of us that run Tournaments like to post the winners to boards.

Would it be possible that within a Tournament like THIS ONE of mine, that when a certain game type has finished, that the winner is posted beside that game. It would help keep track of who won which when searching results

It works fine when the Tournament is only one sort of game(AS HERE), it shows the winner once complete, but it would be very useful if it did it in multiple games as well

Otsikko: Re: Number of time outs
AbigailII: That was basically what i was asking in my original post on the subject

Also Fencer, could we have a page (same as in our profiles for finished games) for Fellowship results. I used to keep track of all the Madhouse ones, but now we have nearly reached 500 games would be nice to see a win / lose / draw breakdown for the Teams

Otsikko: Re:
rod03801: Sorry, i agree with you totally with that. Needs to play more

I almost suggested once that no time out games should be allowed to be a part of ratings, but that would never work. I do think it should be discussed and looked into though. I do not mind losing games fairly, but when i think how many of mins are by time out, it makes me sick , even though i admit its my own fault (well the computers anyway lol)

18. Marraskuu 2008, 01:02:44
MadMonkey
Otsikko: Re:
rod03801: He does raise a point though rod which i have brought up a similar thing a while ago now

I actually asked, that i would like to know how many games that i had won / lost / drawn i would be on (and also my bkr) if all time out games were eliminated. Twice in the past now i have been with out internet connection for a time, and therefore lost many games by time out. Luckily enough it has not happened lately.

The point i am making is OK its my loss, and my bkr gets crucified on certain games (ones that i am pretty good at), BUT when i return and start playing again, most top players know who they can & can not beat, or give a close game to.

As an example, if my Lines of Action or Cheversi ratings went very low because of timed out games, and then i started playing again, and of course i would enter tournaments and take on the top players, many of which i would win, there bkr's would get crucified

I would like some way of this not happening, not just for myself, but anyone on either side of that coin. I think a happy medium should be reached

8. Marraskuu 2008, 13:04:35
MadMonkey
Fencer, just a little mention (as you mentioned new games) to Dominoes as it has not been brought up in a while

I think it would be VERY popular here and would work well.

Start with just a normal set (28 tiles) of 6 x 6, the maybe build a 9 x 9 & 12 x 12 sets

This of course could be set up as either 2 player or multi-player
