Jim Dandy: Donny Osmund....how dramatic he was at....what was he, 14? I can tell you that never happened to me. The most any guy ever sang to me was Happy Birthday. Although the washboard player with Ponty Bone one night, came over to me, and let me play his chest. Hahaha! He said later he saw I couldn't sit still to the music, and he wanted to include me. I think that was nice. When you go everywhere by yourself, it's always nice to be recognized by the performers. Don't you think?
Ewe: I guess I was getting kind close to old at that point. Evidently, he didn't think I was too old to have some fun.
Ewe:Thank you, Ewe. Unfortunately the reality from this end seems a little different. It's an insult when your body starts giving out when you feel so young.
Thatnk you, Ewe. I'm always gratified when you enjoy one of my posts being so much younger than I. That was old stuff, but still timely, as far as I can tell.
Jim Dandy I so don't believe you. You are quality kinda guy, I knew that from minute one that I saw you here.
awesome Thank you for that. It was an interesting video, besides being a very timely tune in 1967. The video reminded me of WWII, and my minds eye went to my uncle who served as a bombardier during that war. 1967, however, was more Viet Nam era. When I saw your description of what was to come, I thought of this::
My Back Pages- This is a round robin sorta thing of a lot of favorites from the time. This song is copyrighted 1964, and was penned by poet-songwriter, Bob Dylan. Give it a listen.
Jim Dandy: You're most kind, Jim the Dandiest. But, you've outdone me in sheer numbers. I also thought it wasanother silly fake documentary, and was delighted to find it not so. Their style really has changed, and I too hear other influences in there, especially their own culture which I think in the 60s they tried to mask. It takes us a while in life to come to accept what actually formed us.
This band appeared at Woodstock, and 2 weeks later here at the Texas Pop Festival. As you all know, I was there. Here is their story in 3 segments - a BBC special. The Incredible String Band:
Jim Dandy: No way!!! The game was really rigged? There goes an evening's entertainment. But, I loved the by-product! Hahaha! Three Little Bops - what a name for a band.
Jim Dandy: Wow, that was back in the guitar smashing days. I'd forgotten about that. I'll tell you, I don't think WE can afford to be fooled again. Who was it who said we're well on our way to becoming a third world country. Now, THAT's scary.
Jim Dandy: Excellent! He used to do barn dances in East Texas, close to where my father grew up. You can't fight with Jerry Lee Lewis, he is a legend.
Funny, both our minds ended up on the piano this afternoon from 1,300 miles apart. Sometimes, I wonder if we're channelling each other.
I started out looking for Doo Wop - no easy matter. There's a bunch of mess out there, but I gotta dig deeper. Somehow (you think your mind jumps....) I ended up looking at Mozart. I kind of wonder if Lang Lang is channelling Mozart in this Mozart's Sonata in C Major. One can also not fight with Lang Lang's technique or delivery.
Jim Dandy: Yeah, he really di. Kinda betrayed us. I alwyas have a hard time giving up faith in people. It took me a long time to get over him too,. That movie was so good, then he kind of dropped us.
Ewe: Interesting effects, especially with the lighting. I began to wonder if the lighting was makeup instead. Thanks for that, I had never heard them. Dandy-Pie: I can't wait to see this. Haha! Tosh was an entertainer. *dives down to YouTube to check out the video*
Bob Marley is, of course, DADDY. I'm really fond of Peter Tosh too. Here he is live, maybe I can win you over. My ex and I went to see Tosh at the Paladium in Dallas. He put on quite a show!
I think I hear some Bonnie Raitt, but what singer wouldn't have that in them? We were born with it, she's a standard. But, I also hear some Maria Mulduar.
Jim Dandy: Yes.. YES..YES! There is at least one other, and it hasn't thrown itself off the lazy susan of my brain. But, by the time you've done your stint with the sandman, I will have come up with it.
Are ya ready? Well, I was poking around, and was reminded of my love pf steel drums. I was introduced to them in the late 70s when a group of drummers called the St. Croix Steel Drum Orchestra started appearing at my favorite little (and I mean little - it would seat about 50 people) listening club called Poor David's Pub on McKinney Avenue in Dallas. There were 13 drummers in this troup. When they all got in the room with their drums, there was hardly room for the audience. But, we all squeezed in, and dared anyone to play darts. It was always a magnificent evening of music.
So I found this demonstration of how the drums are made in modern day. They used to be made with just plain old steel drums. Now, it's evidently an art form.
Then, I found this steel drum rendition of La Bamba.
Jim Dandy: I haven't thought about The Cowsills in years, decades even. The main two of them, Bill and Bob, have passed on over the last couple years. Here is an interesting article about them.

Butch Trucks at the finest I've EVER heard him. Don't shut it down when the station break comes. It continues.
Then, just surf around and see of you don't spend the rest of your weekend here. There is a search engine where you can search by performer, or song. Mercy me - don't miss the Fleetwood Mac concert at Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden on 3-23-1969. I'm going to be there again tonight.
Ewe - be prepared for tribal, darlin'. Do you have your custume handy from earlier this week?
Harpsichord is always an interesting instrument to hear, so here is one at the hands of a master.
The piece is one I play on piano, and have always wanted to try it on a harpsichord. It has some complicated audial areas, with some really soothing resolution. See what you think.
I just don't want the guy to die, or maybe I'm STILL in denial. Anyway, this starts out with Emmy Lou and Steve Earle doing the song that keeps weaseling it's way into my head, and heart. The cool part about this piece is that Townes keeps popping up live. And, it's not the clown-like Townes in those interviews out of Austin, this is the Townes onstage as I knew him, raven black hair, a haunted look on his face, singing from waaaaay deep inside of him.
The second part is Emmy Lou and Willie Nelson (with a big smile from Lyle Lovett) doing Pancho and Lefty. Townes pays another visit here, and he's still the Townes who appeared every now and then in my life, and gave me something to love for an hour or so.
SEAWOLF2: I HAVE THIS CD YOU'RE PLAYING FROM. ALL THESE ARE GREAT SONGS. MY FRIEND AND I PLAYED ASW FOR 10 HOURS ONE DAY DRIVING UP IN THRE MOUNTAINS AROUND LA. THEN HE GAVE ME THE CDS.
Then, came Derek Trucks, Butche's nephew. I've posted stuff by him before, but just take a listen. I think he's magnificent. There's not a lot out there that is complete, but I'll find it, and post it when I do.
but, these guys were great in their adult years too. Little Anthony and the Imperials. Dandy-pie was looking for the third song in this medley the other day.
Jim Dandy: Did Chicago lose something? You know I'm totally ignorant when it comes to sports, and that's the only thing I can think that little Chicago number was about. After Rixy Music, I felt like my eart had been ripped out of my chest and eaten. But, McCartney brought it back to me whole, and sewed it back in.
SEAWOLF2: WE'RE ABOUT ANYTHING TONIGHT. i'VE ASKED RADIANT WHEN SHE WANTS TO DO THIS MESSIANIC THING, BUT I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK. WE MAY HAVE LET THE TIME PASS, AND HAVE TO WAIT ON THAT ONE.
BLUES IS JUST GREAT ANYTIME. THOSE GUYS WERE GOOD!!! OF COURSE YOU CAN BLOW ON A SAXOPHONE IN MY EAR, AND I'LL FOLLOW YOU ANYWHERE. AND THERE'S NOTHING BETTER THAN A STAND-UP BASS PLAYED WELL..
Ewe: Thank you, Ewe. Let me tell you that you are a large part of what makes it a great place. Thank you so much for your contributions!! It wouldn't be the same without you.
"Snoopy": I don't know if there is a "supposed" to sign anywhere, but it sounded like music to me. Thanks for posting it here. I, personnaly got a lot of joy from their little smiles, and voices. Please post again.
Ewe: In my opinion, who cannot love Bob Dylan? He's like an institution in the music world. And, people said he couldn't sing. Hahahahahaha!
Jim Dandy: Rolling Thunder Review - Me too. I'm not even sure that one came here. If it makes the rounds again, you want to go? As IF!! --- Guess Who - what a voice. One forgets when (s)he doesn't hear a band all the time. --- Tough Darts - it's so cool that people still hire bands to play private parties like that. That WAS a find Radiant2007 :-): Nostalgia from the 80s - Cute guy, may I have him? --- Billy Joel - such a strong talent. His voice is so clear, and powerful. Really nice video.
