Sujet: Firefox 3.5 performance
I tried to start my Firefox 3.5 in a safe mode (all add-ons were disabled) yesterday, in order to test if the mentioned performance problem (related to the browser, not BrainKing) would happen again. Now, after more than 24 hours, everything is still very fast and Firefox does not consume any system resources when it is idle (compared to 50% before).

Well, that means that it must be one (or more) of Firefox add-ons that causes the mysterious CPU load. The only problem is that I use about 15-20 of them, so it can take some time to find out the source. But I will try.

Anyway, if you still have problems to use BrainKing with Firefox 3.5, either try to start it in a safe mode or use another good browser (Google Chrome, for instance).

NOT a floosie: Well, I think I can answer "Yes" to that question. Hanaslang was made by members of the Haná people (I used to be one of them, but opted not to continue working on it, as I had originally thought BK.hh would be just a translation of BrainKing into the Haná dialect), in part to make fun of themselves indeed. They did a very good job in my opinion and it sometimes really is a blast reading the Hanaslang. :)

MrWCF: Hanaslang is based on several dialects spoken in the eastern half of the Czech Republic, in particular on the one spoken in the region of Haná - hence the name. More than a serious localization, the purpose and goal of the Hanaslang version of BK was creating somewhat funny alternative to the original Czech version. :)

AbigailII & Czuch: lol .. i wish we had :)

the weekend takes away 2 days .. i usually play within 1 day (and most of the times much faster) but i prefer to have 2 days left per move when i log out ... so if the weekend doesnt count then i need 4 days per move when i leave on friday

monday is usually a busy day at work so i make less moves then

AbigailII: personally i do need the weekend days ... most of my playing i do from work (mostly in my breaks :)) .. in the weekends i will be busy and might not be able to come online

during the working days (mon till fri) i might be a fast player, but in the weekends i am quite slow

then again i dont mind slow games .. i just would miss it to be able to join tournaments with 3 days per move .. without weekend days thats not possible for me

Fencer: i agree, the simpler the system the better

adjustable weekenddays give me some extra vacation days per year (by setting them the most profitable when i leave) .. although i agree thats a bit of an abuse of the weekend days :)

the problem i had today though is that i didnt change anything in the settings (neither calendar or any other) .. i just viewed them to see if i could set my weekend back to sat & sun again .. i didnt change anything .. but now most of my games will try to timeout while i am asleep (i will use an extra vacation day to prevent that so i wont worry :))

i dont know what other could have caused it than me viewing the calendar settings

another funny thing is that every hour (i think) each game which was in the negative became 2 days less negative .. so i started at -16 days .. an hour later some were -14 .. and hour later some were -12 .. and now most are within 1 day or even positive

sat & sun for the weekend is best for me .. but thats just me personally of course

Sujet: Re: negative time left
Fencer: Even simpler would be to get rid of weekends. Which, IMO, are a bit silly - if you need them you can always pick a time pace that allows not playing in weekends. But weekends prevent you from picking a time pace that forces "fast games" -- with weekends, you cannot play a game where you have to move at least once a day; it becomes 5 times a week. (Currently, you can pick a time pace that says "no vacation days, no weekends" and "no vacation, but weekends", but "no weekends, allow vacation" isn't available. The latter would have been my pick).

Sujet: Re: negative time left
Hrqls: The system is to be rewritten anyway, so I would not take it as a big issue. However, it can make problems if someone changes the weekend days because the system does not remember previous settings, of course.

I think the main problem is that the vacation system is already too complicated, as a result of attempts to satisfy all requests of improvements in the past (and some of them had been kind of ridiculous, so to speak). The system is planned to be a little easier in the future - for instance, it is not absolutely necessary to make the weekend days adjustable, so they will be probably set to Saturday and Sunday for everyone.

ok i have the problem as well

i just came back from my vacation .. i have today set as a vacation day .. i logged in and noticed some games had a few hours left .. the rest more than a day .. i made my moves in the game which had less than a day time left ..

everything is fine ... all my games have more than 1 day left and tomorrow (when i am awake) i can make the rest of the moves

i then went to my calendar settings ... i did change nothing .. i went back to the main page .. and now quite some games have -16 days time left

this looks weird .. and scared me a bit .. i will see what happens .. i have 23 vacation days left for the rest of the year and automatic vacation days on .. so if i have 22 vacation days tomorrow .. then 1 was taken away automatically by these negative times (although today was already set as a vacation day)

I do not get that here though, but then rarley do i use a Browser to access BrainKing now

I will have a look on the Mozilla blog and see if anything is mentioned

Sujet: Re:
MadMonkey: I am afraid there is something strange with Firefox 3.5 because it happens to me too. No matter which web sites I visit, after a couple of hours the browser starts to consume 50% (or more) CPU even if it is idle. A Firefox restart usually helps, until it starts again.
It never happened with previous versions of Firefox.
